Citi Rewards Mastercard: 60,000 Bonus Velocity Points with $3,000 Spend in 90 Days, $0 First Year Fee (Save $149) @ Citibank

480

Spotted this when logged into Velocity under the My Offers tab.

It's similar to the previous deal, but with some extra perks?.

Key points:

  • $0 annual fee in the first year
  • 60,000 Velocity Points when you spend $3,000 on eligible purchases within 90 days from approval.

Extra perks:

  • Luxury Escapes – Enjoy 10% off (up to $250) Limited Time Lux Exclusive hotel offers until 1 March 2023
  • Cashback on Deliveroo - Enjoy $10 cashback on one Deliveroo order of $25 or more every month until 31 December 2022
  • Complimentary mobile phone insurance - Enjoy monthly cover on your eligible mobile phone for Accidental Damage or Theft when you pay your Monthly Mobile Plan bill with your Citi Rewards credit card

It's rare to see Velocity Points card deal, so I consider this a nice win.

PS there's another feature (Citi PayAll) that sounds interesting, but I'm not familiar with it. Anyone care to comment?

With Citi PayAll, you can pay for your rent, taxes, education fees, property management fees, childcare, miscellaneous bills and more using your Citi Credit Card. For all Citi PayAll payments set up between 1 April 2021 to 31 October 2022, the Citi PayAll fee will be reduced to 0%. You can turn payments into rewards by earning uncapped Citi reward Points on your everyday spend.

It's rare to see Velocity Points card deal, so I consider this a nice win.

The deals are out there if you look for them. It's just people mainly post the QFF deals here.

I'm currently spending up to get 75,000k Velocity points for ~$100 first year annual fee from Westpac.

Previously I converted my SunCorp cards bonus points to Velocity and even got the 30% bonus in May.

Now that Velocity is back open to SQ biz redemptions, it's better value than QFF in my opinion.

    • +1

I find Qantas have the better deals and lower annual fees than Velocity, but as you say they can have better redemption value than Qantas

    • Not bad for interstate sometimes as well.
For example from Melbourne, Qantas does not have many routes to/from Gold Coast and if they do, it's usually +$200 each way.
On Virgin, flights are nearly every hour and at approximately 11,800 points + $28.70 tax. It's a good option to have up your sleeve.
      YMMV.

      • It's a good option to have up your sleeve.

I think churning both whenever you can is the best option. If no good velocity deals, just grab a qantas card I reckon.

  • Does Virgin have the equivalent of "classic reward" flights?

    • +1

Yes. Sydney to Melbourne is about 7800 points if you pay the tax component

100k VFF points 12 months ago. It might be worth holding out to see if they upgrade this deal in July again.

Not for no annual fee they won’t. I prefer this promo

      • +1

The extra 40k points (potentially worth $320 at 0.8cpp on OzBargain forums) definitely makes up for the $99 AF.
        Thoughts on this?

        • +3

Depends on what you value or how hard you wanna go with bargains, regarding the annual fee. It's good value for annual fee for 100k points specially considering velocity.

Not for me as I go harder in stingy-town on annual fees on Qantas but I can still see some value

        • Is the extra 40k still available ? I thought it was expired already.

          • @plkplk: It isn’t available: I’m speculating that the upgraded offer of 100k points will come around again.

re Citi Payall, it's great currently using it for 15000 extra points per month. If i wasn't churning i'd max my limit and earn even more points. i'm pretty sure there's a forum thread on this around here.

    • Citipayall won’t count towards minimum spend, also there is some limited to it per year(sorry carnt remember)

      • Correct, i just top my account up to ensure i can both spend and utilise the Citi payall

      • Where did you get that info? I got told on the phone by a very tired helpdesk guy that it did count.

  • Does anyone know if I am eligible if I also have the Citibank Qantas Premier Card?

  • Anyone had any experience with the phone insurance that's featured with this card ? Points are not great but there's not much going atm to churn.

  • Applied, did you have to put in your velocity number anywhere in the application?

Hoping I didn't miss it or anything

    • +2

They send you a email once you hit the minimum spend, FYI when I applied for the flybuys offer(was 100,000 now 40,000) they send the email, t&c says 6 weeks after they get my number but took longer called them up and they send a email thu and next day they were in my account(they took long enough trying to look for my email on the phone but)

        This.

Source: Did the 100K Velocity points promo last year

  • (Citi PayAll) that sounds interesting, but I'm not familiar with it. Anyone care to comment?

[Citibank Credit Cards] Free Citi PayAll for All Payments Set Up from 1st April 2021 to 31st October 2022 (Normally 2%) has 10 pages of comments so far.

  • Pretty quick and straightforward - signed up yesterday night, submitted all the required documents like payslip and rental statements, got approved this morning.

  • Was approved for this few days ago after being told to F off by Westpac couple weeks back.

Found out that Citi is now owned by NAB and also charge $100 for an additional card holder grr

  • Applied yesterday, uploaded required documents and was approved within minutes.

For those who applied before, how quickly did you get the card (or if there is an ecard available)? I want to purchase something from Digidirect eBay and the discount ends this Sunday.

    • Can't remember but definitely no digital card

    • Applied for card Sun 3/07. Approved Mon 4/07. Received card Mon 11/07.

Not sure if Australia Post still delivers letters every second day but the envelope has the priority post indicia. That being said it's a fairly quick turnaround so you may get lucky and receive it Friday.

This is one of the better cc application I've experienced.

As per kerfuffle, no digital card.

      • Thanks, guys. I'll wait till Friday to see if the card arrives in time.

        Cheers!

I got the card on Thursday, 4 business days after approval. Happy days!

  • Doesnt support Google pay :(

    • Unfortunately not but I knew about it when applying. I'm closing the card as soon as I meet the min spend; the lack of mobile payment is a little inconvenient.

FYI the Qantas Premier Mastercard doesn't support GPay either.

  • Got my deliveroo $10 the first time, this month I ordered once not hitting $25 and one time hitting $25. haven't seen that one yet! surely it's not the first purchase, but the first purchase over?

    • lmao, wouldn't that be hilarious
did you end up finding out?

it eventually came through. took about 30 days though. agent said to wait up to 60 days. since my account may close in the next 30-60 days, not sure if I'll bother using the benefit again

  • Does citibank only get in contact with you after you hit the spend re: your velocity number? Didn't have a place to put it during the process

    • Based on this, they'll contact you.

and got the 'give us your Velocity number' e-mail about three days after qualifying

  • I have not got the E mail yet so strange

    • How long ago did you make the qualifying spend?

  • Anyone here got E mail about Velocity Number ???

    • I did, received like 5mins after I spent enough. But that was last Fri 29th July and I still haven't received my points so probably takes a while for them to process. Within 10 weeks was what they mentioned in the email.

      Just be careful with how you calculate eligible spend, from their T&Cs;

      any purchase excluding (but not limited to) Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Special Promotions, BPAY payments, purchases of foreign currency and travellers cheques, transactions made in operating a business, payments to other Citi branded accounts, bank fees and charges such as interest and ATM charges, transactions made using Points and government related transactions. Government related transactions include transactions with government or semi-government entities, or relating to services provided by or in connection with government (for example but not limited to transactions made at Australia Post, payments to the Australian Taxation Office, council rates, motor registries, tolls, parking stations and meters, fares on public transport, fines and court related costs). Please note that whether or not a transaction is an Eligible Transaction will be determined based on information provided either by the merchant or the relevant financial institution (including information about the type of business conducted by the merchant). This means that, for example, spend with certain merchants may be characterised as spend with a government related entity and therefore not an Eligible Transaction, even if that merchant is not in fact a government related entity;

      Also, PayAll is not included.

      • get your points yet @firestint?

        • +1

Hey got my points a couple of days ago. I think they were just waiting for me to clear the first payment (I hit the min spend required in less than a month).

Paid over the weekend, and received the points once the payment has been cleared.

    • hit my spend on monday, waiting for email!

  • I couldn't find any mention of previously holding a citi rewards card being ineligible?

  • Any ideas how long it takes to transfer the points after velocity number is provided to Citibank?

    • they said up to 10 weeks. that sounds like forever. and 8 weeks for the email. like what a long ass time…

      • Ah wanted to use to points to book interstate flight :(

        • I would estimate at least a few weeks wait even if they're fast

  • +2

Got my email 4 days after cc spend hit. Will see how long before points hit.

  • +2

Got my points about 3 weeks later. Did not pay off my spend yet heh

  • If you cancel.. how long before you have to transfer your points? 60 days?

    • If you've already received your bonus points into your Velocity account, you can cancel straightaway. If you have accumulated points in the current statement period and it hasn't transferred to your Velocity account yet, this may be forfeited when you cancel.
