      Duplicate exceptions:

The original deal is older than one month, and was expired or sold out between then and now.
The original deal is active but older than 6 months.
The duplicate gains an excessive amount of positive votes (100+) and the original deal was posted and had become active more than 24 hours ago.
The item is not in the title of the original deal. Moderator discretion can apply if the post is seen as excessive.

Good offer, but in most cases I use eBay gift cards in eBay purchases, so I assume this will not be eligible in such case. (as the terms says "Items you haven’t paid for in full with your PayPal account". )

    • I always ensure that a small portion is paid using PayPal.

      • +2

Doesn't apply as the first condition is = paid for your item in its entirety using your PayPal account
        Conditions

        • +3

In practice. I was able to get refunded returns within minimal partial payments where the bulk was laid using eBay gift card and around a dollar was paid with PayPal.

    • Is there a reason you generally only use gift cards on eBay?

      • Minimum 3% cashback (usually more with bonuses and promos) would be my guess, I moved completely over to gift cards years ago.

I've never had to use this, but I imagine it would be pretty useful for AliExpress returns since they may require the item to be sent back?

Anyone have any experience with this?

    • +3

Yes, postage refund was equivalent to item price. Got refund quickly (within a few days) then item seemed to stand still in China but AliExpress stepped in and refunded me as I could demonstrate it was sent.

      So yes, great for AliExpress

    • +6

Twice I've sent cctv cameras back to Aliexpress sellers that weren't as advertised, Paypal paid the return shipping, and I was refunded for the item price after a while… Then the sellers didn't pay the customs fees over there to get the packages released so the cameras were returned to me, lol, refund and got the cameras back.. One seller wanted me to put $10 as the value on the declaration, I refused and put the true $100 value on, I wanted the insurance cover for if anything went wrong…

      • did you send it through auspost? or are there better/cheaper ways?

        • +1

          Aus post international express, EMS

    • Was thinking the same to return a $36 coffee machine item, but the shop basically said they recommend you don't as it would probably get lost.. sound like lazy pricks but better off selling it anyway to keep the $10 cash rewards.

Items of greater cost and international - for sure.

      • The shop is BSing you so you dont return it… International express seems very reliable, has good tracking, and $100 insurance at no extra cost…

        • yes I agree with you but in this case wasn't really worth it i think.

        • @Flickit

Still seeing if I can sell it locally, otherwise will just send it back and hope for a refund in a month.
You'd think Paypal would cover it if it went missing. Have asked the shop for the address again anyway.

          • @G-rig: Unlikely it will go missing.. Aus Post have $100 insurance on International Express packages..

  • Are there any downsides?

    • +1

None. Just activate it and use it if you ever need to.
Just make sure to pay with PayPal where you can.

      • +1

And as I learned just now (thanks Iwantthatbargain and Borg), that you pay with Paypal… in full. Sadly, no partial payments with eBay gift cards.

  • And how to activate?

    • By clicking the blue button that says Activate Now.

  • With eBay pushing towards managed payments, this will be useless with eBay soon

    • +1

the day they stop accepting paypal is the day i stop using ebay. paypals protection is too good to give up.

      • +1

His point is that with managed payments, PayPal’s protection is already withering away. Nowadays, most eBay purchases paid with PayPal are paid to “eBay Commerce”, instead of the individual seller like back in the day. This means it’s already extremely hard to make claims as a buyer, as you need to make a claim against eBay as a seller, rather than the individual or business. PayPal protection today is nothing like it was prior to July 2021

      • What does PayPal protection offer beyond what any credit card offers?

        • Paypal is a lot easier IMO, a couple of clicks and it's al sorted..

        • It's an extra layer (so you can start with Paypal then go to your credit card provider). And generally easier to deal with. Although Amex is quite easy too. I have had to dispute transactions with Coles Mastercard (can't remember who run them) and it was a huge pain.

        • don't have a credit card

          • @[Deactivated]: If you're using your card online, then get a credit card.
Using a debit card for remote transactions is a bad idea - when something goes wrong, it's your money that gets taken from your account.
When your credit card gets skimmed, it's no big deal - the false charges just get removed from your statement before they ever become your problem.

            • @Nom: I agree, but I also believe that a Visa/MC logo'd Debit Card offers the same purchase protection that a Visa/MC logo'd Credit Card does anyway.

  • +1

"You’ve already got free return shipping!*" :-)

  • I've used this a few times, all very easy…

  • Remember to check the refund process. Last time I tried to claim they wanted a picture of the parcel with the address label visible. The Auspost receipt was not good enough. I suppose I could have put the label on any wrapped shoe box, but in this case I lost out.

    • +2

Always best to take a photo of the parcel sitting on the Auspost counter after they shove their labels on it, I always take a few snaps and include enough of the background so it's obvious it's at Aus Post…

      • If I have doubts when returning or selling I video the item going in the box. Music playing so it's clear it's not a clipped video. Then photos of the label etc on the box.

  • Once I refunded to Amex (Return Protection) but PayPal still reimbursed me for the return shipping. Took a lot of effort to prepare a document reconciling the different sources though.

  • A couple of positive notes from my experience (your mileage may vary):
    - My return postage was once $38 and had no issues or delays compared to the usual, much lower refunds.
    - I once managed to get refunded twice on one transaction (returned something for a replacement and also ended up returning the replacement).

Why does it have to be activated?

Why can't it just be a policy that exists and then if they change their minds, just withdraw it?

  • Everytime this is posted, I could not find the activate link on my mobile App. Today I tried the destop version, it appears that I have free returns already on my account. I must have activated it early on. Thank you OzB.

Why does Amazon not use Paypal?

    • Amazon has free returns anyways usually?

      • yes pretty much, just have to select the correct reason for sending back :P
May be harder for items not sold and shipped by Amazon

    • Less fees I presume.

  • Ok at the risk of looking silly I cannot find the way to submit a request. I have had the deal activated earlier, I have returned an item purchased on ebay paid in full from paypal. I've found the transaction in my activity on the paypal site. But when I click into it I can't see any signs of a way to request a shipping refund.

I'm on a business account if that makes any difference?

Thanks in advance for any help

  • Is this like a yearly PSA post?

  • Jeez do you people set calendar reminders for this stuff. It's nearly 6 months to the actual minute.

  • Guess not worth claiming $4 sending an envelope back? Prob good to save for bigger purchases

  • Is there any way of searching for long running deals like this, I know there's a few like Disney Plus, Google Storage, Google Music, Netflix etc. Any advice?

  • Just to share my recent experience with the refunded return shipping, it seems like PayPal does not offer this anymore according to the service agent, was told they ended the offer last month. Not that I always need to return my purchases (this is actually my very first time trying to claim the return shipping cost), but it does give us a peace of mind when buying stuffs online.

Damn, just got an email from PayPal saying this is coming to end on 27 November…

    • +1

      Got the same here.
Massive shame as this has been useful so many times - especially buying clothes which turn out to be wrong size, then getting free return

      • Indeed, I've used it many times over the years. Welp, it had a good run.

    • +2

One of the only reasons I used PayPal. Basterds.

    • Just came here to share this update.

"Please note effective 26 November 2022, we are discontinuing PayPal’s Refunded Returns Service for all Australian PayPal users. This means you will not be able to use the Refunded Return Service including lodging any new refund claims from the above effective date. If you initiated a refund claim using the Refunded Return Service prior to the above effective date, then the PayPal Refunded Returns Service General Conditions of Use will continue to apply until the claim is processed. If you would like to find out more about the discontinuation of Refunded Returns Service, please see here."

      Same here, this sucks.

      • Pretty sure it's same for everyone lol

  • Just received the email as well, I have totally forgotten about this "benefit".

Recently I have to return 3 online orders due to incorrect sizes, all up $58.

Granted only 1 accepted PayPal but it totally skipped my mind, could have saved $21.

    Hi,

Only used it once to send a Microwave by Courier back to TGG.
    Glad to have had it,

I know https://parcelpoint.com.au/return-parcel offers a process for member retailers.

Is there a .OzB Wiki for shops that offer friendly returns?

    • Costco

      • Yes, I heard good things, especially on TV's.

  • just received email this is now going to ends soon

  • +1

Is there an alternative to this? :( Relied on this for that extra protection.

  • "Starting 27 November 2022, PayPal will no longer accept refund requests for return shipping costs."
So anything bought from now on might miss that 27 November deadline.

  • I just found out that they're ending it… that sucks.time to stop buying things i don't actually need then and hope everything i buy, which obviously isn't possible, won't develop a fault or arrives with a defect

    • i said that 27/9….
and yes agree. recession is coming so close our wallet —- for good

  • Paypal has got worse and worse, and the removal of the refund on shipping costs is another step closer to its demise

    https://www.paypalobjects.com/marketing/ua/pdf/AU/en/general…

  • Four days left to do a funded return

  • +1

just did a refunded return request …. last day. hurry all if you need to return anything
