These guys used to be cheap. I find that the only convenience now is return times

    • Yeah agreed

    • Yep have noted prices have gone up. Think they're hurting on the rentals because fuel is included. Might have become material.

      • Fuel is charged ? 30-50c/km?

        • +3

Owners pay the fuel. Borrowers are charged the km rate.

        • for comparison - an average 4 cylinder car that does 7L / 100 km is then costing $0.15 cents per km (calculated at $2.20 per litre fuel)

so if you drive your car its 15cents / km or if you drive their car its 30-50 cents / km.

          • @aussieaubs: Lender also need to pay Carnextdoor 33% of the km to use their insurance.

Just wanted to share that I used them for a year back in 2018/19 and they were amazing. Customer service was exceptional!!! They met or exceeded my expectations on every issue raised. They'd be my go to if I ever needed a rental.

PS: not in any way associated with them, but it's rare to have such a customer focused experience. Thought I'd give 'em a shout-out.

  • misread title as $50 off Your First Ride for wife Next Door

    • +1

That promo only applies to your wife's boyfriend

  • Credit check!!
    Upvoted from the deal though

Last time I used them, they showed no notification/warnings whatsoever for changing booking within like 48 hr of the original time.

Only after the entire trip is over, they slap you with massive fees. Called them out on it, they say it's tucked away in their "terms & conditions".

Slimy company. Pretty sure hidden fees/prices are illegal under ACL, but businesses will keep getting away with it as long as it's not worth the time & money for the little guys to fight for their rights.

New users get confused all the time.

When you book for a day, you see the daily time rate up front. When you return the car, they give you the “you drive 50km” and add that once you stop driving.

You can get an estimate of this cost at booking time if you put in your driving estimate. If you choose not to, they give you the exact cost at the end of the booking.

The hourly rate and km rate are there when you choose the car. It’s confirmed again at booking. You can choose extra insurance to reduce excess at time of booking.

The only other fees I can think of are if you leave the car empty, damaged, late, etc. If you do that, yeah, there are extra fees.

I’ve used CND a number of times. The only extra fees I’ve seen are the tolls I’ve used.

      • you're going off about entirely different things…

48hr seems unreasonably long, and it's not even the company's cars. So why do they get the fee money?

      • +1

"I like money" -Mr Krabs CND's CEO

    • What fees and where is the T&C, couldn’t find them. Their site is so bad

  • I've been happy with CND. As mentioned above, very good costume service and reasonable prices. We'll see what the future with Uber brings.

Can this deal for new users stack with referral credit?

I used once and will NEVER use them again.

There is not dedicated parking! They want to me find a parking spot Canberra CBD street myself before my 24 hours is up, and it was during business hour, there was absolute no parking at all within like 5 km of the address was I was suppose to return the car. And I was told that I am RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL FINES if I don't park it in the right spot but there is not spot to park.

I was absolutely screwed and almost crashed the van in the busy Canberra CBD traffic.

    Absolutely trash system.

    • +2

To be fair, that's not really a weakness of their system. Thats just parking sucks.

If you ever do use them again - and I suspect after your stressful experience, you will not - can filter your choices to include only vehicles with dedicated parking.

      • +1

They should have clarified that to new users.

How the F am going to find a unlimited street parking in Braddon 9 am when most of the streets around the owner's address is either no parking or 30 min parking or paid parking and they're all full.

This is a stupid ass system that gets the first time user over the 24 hours so they can charge penalty rates or get cop fines.

        Scammy as

Just in time for our trip, thank you!

Thanks just used for an upcoming trip. Way cheaper than hiring a car from the usual companies…

as an FYI to anyone who may use this Uber first time driver gets $50 promo, I have confirmed with Car Next Door that a new user can stack the Uber $50 promo AND the $15 credit the referee/referrer get.

I was about to refer a friend and glad to know he can use both promos.

I wouldn't support this company. So greedy and sneaky, ripping off users and car owners at the same time. Beware.
