Not going to neg this, but be aware of network reception issue involving this line and iPhones 12 and newer. My personal experience is the worst network by far. Reminds me when GSM was still rolled out and you had to find a good network spot and freeze there for the whole call.

    • +1

Could you explain the actual issue and what’s causing it etc? I’m curious.

I’ve got an iPhone 11 Pro and have used Telstra 4G (Boost), Optus 4G (Woolworths) and Vodafone 4G (Kogan) with no issue.

      • +5

        woolworths is telstra

        • Wow, that is tragic. I would be infuriated in that situation :(

        • +1

If the issue is lack of VoLTE, then that's an issue with almost every MVNO. You mention not having issues with other carriers but none of the other carriers you list are Optus based, so it's reasonable to expect a different experience if you hadn't used another Optus based provider.

It's perfectly valid to have issues with a particular network in your area and to need VoLTE if the 3G network is poor, but that's not really the MVNO's fault if they don't advertise VoLTE. In other words, it doesn't sound like a Coles problem, but rather that Optus isn't good for you without VoLTE and that precludes you from using most Optus MVNOs as only a handful offer VoLTE.

I would strongly suggest that people try out any new-to-them network with a cheap sim before buying long term plans, to avoid being stuck on a network that doesn't work for them. This goes for any network, because it's quite variable depending on where you are. Different areas can have different best networks, so it's not overly helpful to just recommend people avoid any one network.

          • @ethan961: Volte should be enabled in next month or two is what I have heard.

            • @ady211: That's great to hear, I had expected that more would have rolled out VoLTE by now given Optus announced VoLTE for MVNOs 2 years ago now. Better late than never.

        • Same problem with no VoLTE on Felix too, so 3G no data until the call ends then back to 4G and 20Mbs

Its a pain in the ass, but its not the end of the world and you can pay $10 more and just goto Vodafone $45 120gb 2Mbs unlimited 43g/4g/5g and up plan with VoLTE and WifiCalling…

I've changed from Optus to Coles about half a year ago and there's no difference. But then again I'm using my phone in a metro area. Have a Pixel 6 which others are reporting network issues on, but I've never dropped a call or lost signal.

      • +1

I did the same change about more then a year ago. It was exact same as optus coverage

    • My dad has been used coles prepaid sim on iPhone 12 for 1 and half years, ask him occasionally for the reception, always good.

    • Things to know:
      1) uses Optus network which has the worst coverage. Black spots everywhere!
      2) Auto renews at the full $120 but for only 60GB
Other than that its good value if you require the equivalant of 5GB/mth for $10/mth equivalent (and less)

If the Gigs are not important to you then the Woolworths Mobile 180 day 15GB long expiry plan is much better value.
ON sale till 28 June for $60 (normally $65)
      1) It uses the Telstra network which has much better coverage than Coles/Optus network
      2) Any unused data gets rolled over or can be data gifted to others on Woolworths mobile
      3) You get 10% OFF your Woolworths shopping bill once a month so practically pays for itself!

BOOM! 3 strikes and you are OUT Coles Mobile !

      • Do a $100m shop and save $10 a month (plus rewards discounts) with the 10% offer and that just about pays for the prepaid! Cool.

As long as you have Telstra coverage!

I dont think NVMOs have wificalling or VoLTE
        https://www.whistleout.com.au/MobilePhones/Guides/what-is-Wi…

        • I have travelled up and down the NSW coast with my friend who uses Kogan mobile (Vodafone).
I had covereage everywhere we went whilst my friend suffered from poor coverage occassionally.
So if you dont have Telstra coverage you just dont have coverage at all in most cases.
And if you dont have coverage then you cant do wificalling or VoLTE.

Thats when nthe local Wifi connection is your fallback

  • +2

Had bad experience and won’t go with Coles again. 3G reception and poor call quality at times.

    • Thats Optus for you
      Exactly my problem

I won use any Optus NVMOs fopr that reason

  • Don't forget to turn off auto recharge.

    why?

    • +2

So you don't get automatically recharged for another 12 months.

    • +1

I was offered 20% on recharge so works $96. Auto recharge due next month.

      • +1

Did they offer 85GB or the usual 60GB?

      • They usually give 25% discount on recharge, so $90, and rollover data.

  • Volte yet?

  • Already with Coles and their the deals are usually "new customers only".
Looking at Catch, only $11 more with 35 more GB ($110 for 120gb).

    • +1

I'm up for a recharge and if you use the app you get 20% off your next voucher. Wish boost did this to keep customers…

      • +2

same, first time ive ever seen a company offer better deal for existing customers than new

      • Hi Mixo, how did you get the 20% off….. i logged in the apps and check change plan… no 20% off shown

        • Does the discount apply if you change plan? The email I received said automatically applied if auto recharge. I’m not sure if the change plan option allows you to back out before confirming?

        • I haven't done it yet, I got an email a few days ago. I will have a crack at it in the next few days.I think it's up on the 25th of this month.

      • but will you get the 25GB bonus data.?

    • How did you get $110 for 120GB? Was there a voucher or discount code involved?

      • No they had it on sale at the time - Gone up now.

  • +4

Do note that Coles mobiles does not support global roaming, so if you are traveling overseas, you won't be able to use your existing Coles number (eg.if you need it for sms verifications from banks, etc). The only solution is to port out to some other providers, and hence losing any unused credit on your Coles mobile plan. I learnt that the hard way. Coles mobiles' support people were not interested in helping at all.

    • +1

If considering optus network, amaysim does offer roaming with PAYG credit

  • +1

Great value if you use international calls to those major countries much.

  • i was on coles mobile for a year and had no issues

the international call and text function was also handy

  • bum! just ordered online and was shipped last Friday; can they do price match possibly?

  • Does Coles mobile support Call waiting feature. I have been trying to activate on my IPhone 10 but just doesn't want to work. The circle keeps going round and round and then says Could not be saved

  • hows the data speed on coles mobile? exactly the same as optus 4g?

  • Can I buy this $99 as a recharge voucher for my current 365d plan?

  • I am unable to get VoWifi with Coles Mobile, but Boost is Okay.

  • +1

Coles mobile is terrible. Left my family without functioning service for weeks during the port due to their complete lack of ability to perform their core business. The service team is a joke. Endless issues.

  • Do not buy if you are transferring your number to them or want to leave one day . Endless issues with no service for weeks on end at the beginning and also when I left them. Even when porting OUT of the service to boost no one on the Optus network could call. Took weeks to fix the issue. Boost told us the bad to send them a request to fix it and nothing g happened for week. Boost support said this was a regular issue with Cole’s mobile.

  • Can i port from an telstra number to this one if I buy it?
If so assume I have to call an Optus helpdesk to sort out the port?

    • Everything seemed automated when I bought it last year.

  • Not just in store, looks to be online too.

  • +2

Bought this in store yesterday, took just a few mins (via website) to port wifes expired Boost number across, via the website.

Note - dont insert the Coles SIM until after you have done the port - as you need to receive a text msg code to your old SIM first (even if its out of credit).

  • The sign in store I saw indicates this is for new customer only?

  • I had a very bad day.
Tried to activate coles mobile sim card for my work Monday morning.
IT WONT WORK! Wasted whole day just trying to get it work so I can actually do my job. Decided to get a boost sim card which got activated less than 10 seconds.

Coles mobile is still not working and they refusing to do a refund because its only just been one day even though they admitted its a system error. Yeah one whole fcking Monday.
