Is there a wheel that exists that works with Xbox, PS and PC?

    • +1

Yes. If you're ready to spend the big bucks there is model from fanatec

      • Slightly misleading. In the details, it doesn't actually mention Xbox in the platform section.

All it suggests that it is Xbox "ready" with that little green circle, which suggests it'll probably work, but not fully functionally.

Not that I could afford it anyway :(

      • Just found this:

        MULTI-PLATFORM POSSIBILITIES.
If you combine any Xbox-licensed Steering Wheel with any PlayStation-licensed Wheel Base, all connected Fanatec hardware becomes compatible with both Xbox and PlayStation systems. And of course, all combinations work on PC too.

        • Yeah their wordings are confusing. I've thought about full compatibility too, but then I realised I can always play forza on pc and other racing on ps5 :)

I would have gone with a standard set with optional license purchase for different platform support, so you dont need to own multiple hardware, but oh well may be on future decade.

    • You can build an adaptor.
      https://blog.gimx.fr/

      I have got a crappy wheel from a PS1 or PS2 working on a PS4 for testing.

      • interesting. the adapter they sell is $50 plus shipping and oos. how easy/expensive is it to make one?

        • It's quite easy to make one if you are handy in electronics.

You need two parts (circuit boards). Should less than $25

You need an arduino pro micro (about $15-16 on ebay) or a Arduino Leonardo (the USB micro sockets on the pro micros are crap, the socket will eventually shear off). Needs the Atmega32U4 chip.

And an CP2102 USB serial adapter. About $7.

You just need to wire it up and plug in the USB cables.

The GIMX software does the rest.

For connecting a wheel to a PS4 (5?), you needs to connect a Dualshock controller to the PC for authenticate.

          https://gimx.fr/wiki/index.php?title=DIY_USB_adapter

          http://www.steve-marton.com/gimx/?product=diy-usb-adapter-fo…

Just need to connect three wires between the boards.

I picked for my serial adapter one with a USB micro socket, some have the USB A plug.

I stacked mine and it fits in a small 3d printer box (approx 4x2x1cm). It was all fine till the USB socket came off the pro micro board, ended up soldering a USB cable direct to the board.

          There are Youtube videos too.

If you are connecting to use on a PC I don't think you will need a GIMX adapter, the PC should pick it up fine.

It's just connecting to a console.

For the GIMX adapter too you must have a PC or Raspberry Pi with the software running too, so it sort of a hassle.

You can buy adapters but they seem to cost a bit.

  • Is this from JB perks? I got a lame projector in my perks email :/

    • +1

no this was the general pop email, which makes that projector 'deal' even more of a piss take.

  • I've been meaning to get one but am not well informed. What are the main differences between this one and more expensive ones?

    • Much more force feedback with the expensive ones (e.g. >$1000+). For entry level and fun, this will do the job.

  • do you reckon a new ones on the horizon? for the now current gen new consoles.

i had the original model on ps4, but got rid of it a few years back. be keen to get one again, but these don't seem to change all that much.

You could bring it down further to $276.58 by stacking with this deal:

  • Bought mine from this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/453079

Already looking at a direct drive unit lol

It’s great tho - absolutely love using it for F1

  • Just got one in store ,paid by ultimate gift card(10% off, sold in Woolworths),so totally I spend 270 dollars .

    • For anyone else, these are only 10% off until next few days i think , lines up with the JB Deal.

Thanks bro, ordered and picked up within an hour!!!

  • Is this better than the driving force gt?

  • Great for casual use. The only thing I don't like about the G29 is Logitech Ghub

    • I agree. I had issues with a version of the Ghub with Steam/Project Cars 1 or 2 (can't remember). Had to downgrade the version of Ghub to make it workable again

    • Yeah i cannot decide for the price to just get a G29, or stick it out for T300 GT etc - signicantly more .. but dont want any issues.

  • I just use the Drive Hub for the G27.

  • -2

i bought the previous version of this on ozbargain last year, sold it after a few months. it just not how you imagine it in your head, its so hard to steer with not close to real life at all. i downloaded a few games to try it with and i even bought the metal frame holder and manual shifter. still too hard and awkward to use.

    • I agree to a point however it's still more fun than a controller.

  • How does everyone find the feel of the brake pedal? I find it way too stiff to get the desired brake pressure compared to the T3PA pedals I used to have before my Thrustmaster TX broke :(

Anyone tried one of the brake mods available with the different springs?

    • Open the pedals and remove the rubber stopper in there. Feels a million times better. I've also read about people cutting down that rubber or just using a generic eraser.

I removed mine on my older G29.

  • Looks like G29 works with PC and PS5, so ordered one in, thanks Op :D

  • As someone that doesn't really have space for a racing chair, what's the next best set up for something like this? A racing wheel stand or similar?

    • I got a Wheel Stand Pro (belonged to a friend of mine who had upgraded to a full seat setup so didn't need it anymore). It's not bad, folds up small enough for me to stand it in the corner of the lounge room behind the door so it's unobtrusive when not in use.

Only real downside to it is that the vertical column part of the stand is smack in the middle, so when using it my leg has to bend slightly awkwardly around it to reach the brake pedal in the centre with my foot. It's not as uncomfortable as it sounds, but worth noting.

Shifter is $59 at The Good Guys (shouldn't have any problem getting for same price from JB's)

They've also got the G29 listed at $274 but "in-store stock only" so might be the odd one to have some luck there.

  • Pity there is no new initial D game. I spent many hours on my PS3 with the g25.

The good ol' days where you could import the latest release games from Hong Kong for $60.

    • I spent a ridiculous amount of time and money on max tune 3 at the arcades sigh

  • +1

Picked one up from JB for $274 using a price match with The Good Guys, as someone commented earlier in this deal.
Was going to attempt to stack with 10% off Ultimate Giftcard deal from Woolworths to get it for $246.60, but my local had run out of stock, someone out there might be able to get in before that Woolworths special ends tonight though and give it a try for an even better price!

  • Tempting but dont need this

  • +4

    Thanks OP bought 2

World of difference over a controller, I'm slower but I'm having more fun

Ordered a VEVOR stand also, ~$107 delivered. For future ozbargainers I'll post a review once it arrives and ive spent some time with it

    • +1

Hi. Would you please share your review of it?

I got the Xbox version to play with my 10yo - we played Forza Horizon 5 with it but the steering moves itself crazily back and forth. Tried a few settings, which reduces it a bit but still quite a different experience than I had imagined… is this how it is supposed to be?

      • +1

the VEVOR stand is great, more so when you consider the price. I think the biggest issue is there is a small amount left-right sway but i dont really notice it when actually playing. Moving from a small wooden side table to the VEVOR thing proved to me that good stable base for a force feedback wheel is paramount

If you're talking about the wheel's force feedback? i duno coz im sure everyone has a different idea of how much force they like - most games should allow adjustment. try this - https://www.briankoponen.com/forza-horizon-5-logitech-g29-g9…
