Zyrontech Powastone 120W USB GaN Charger $78.99 Delivered @ Zyrontech

1050

That’s a lot of power for a relatively small wall charger. Fwiw I’ve got a couple of the 65w versions and they’ve been running flawlessly for the last couple of years used every day.

Also as far as I know it’s an Australian company so that’s a good thing too I guess.

Enjoy.

  • Any deals on the 65w these days?

    • +2

      EOFY Powastone 65
Same as last birthday bash deal

      • Last time you suggested this would be $70 for EOFY. Is this the lowest?

        • +1

Yes, this is the lowest price in EOFY. Last time we had a shipping promotion from Sendle which we passed on :)

  • +1

Snap, I was just about to post this.

  • +1

It seems to do PPS too, which is nice.

  • +8

Why doesn’t this charger have insulated pins? 99% sure this would mean it has not been certified to meet Aus electrical safety standards.

    • Yes, that is a no no.

    • +1

      It says: CERTIFIED SAFE
Our 120W Gallium charger is SAA and RCM certified for safe use in Australia. It also has in-built protocols for short circuit, over-current, over-heating and over-voltage protections to keep you and your connected device safe

    • +21

Guessing those pics are renders? I have one, and they're definitely insulated

Cheers for posting - good to know. Seems like they should update their product images, stat.

      • Wish it had the combination power distribution on it, I know I'm gonna forget haha

      • Same here. Looking at it right now and they are insulated.

    • +2

yep australian standard requires active and neutral pins to have insulation unlike chinese plugs ….

      • Luckily these ones are insulated as per deltacake's photo above

    • +9

It has insulated pins and Certification
Already informed the team to update the images tomorrow :)

We are also working on to improve our website with far more informative data on the chargers

      • Appreciate your prompt and responsible reply!

I will give it a go.

      • The image even using a Chinese powerboard.

        • +1

How many GaN chargers are made somewhere else?

  • I have one, it's great and definitely insulated.

  • anyone tested this on an asus rog flow x13/z13?

    • ROG Flow X13 specs: "TYPE-C, 100W AC Adapter, Output: 20V DC, 5A, 100W, Input: 100~240V AC, 50/60Hz universal" - This charger is compatible

      • thats what it says on paper but asus implemented some type of proprietary protocol that will enable turbo mode if you use an OEM asus usb-c 100w charger, there's stuff on it online

        • +1

It's likely similar to Lenovo and Dell. Those manufacturers require proper power delivery for the entire chain. That means the cable must be properly e-marked. There is a good chance that the included cable in this one could be a simple USB 2.0/USB-C cable. Reason is that a USB-C cable that's USB 2.0 doesn't have to include e-marking. However, you will find quite a few laptops simply reject such cable and won't engage fast charging. Such cable can still be used for Samsung PPS. In fact, Samsung's cheap USB-C/USB-C cable does NOT appear to have a e-marking chip (cost saving).

Power delivery is complicated. You "might" have some luck with this charger if you use a proper cable from Apple, Lenovo or Dell. Lenovo, Dell and Asus appear to sell charger with the cable soldered to the adapter. I can understand the reason: basically, they don't want you to use an el cheapo cable. Technically, if the laptop makers want to be really mean, they could insist on original chargers by validating the e-marking chip data.

Anyway, if we are talking about 100W, why use a third party charger? The specs of this one is a bit all over the place.

  • Thanks for clarifying re the pins and including a pic. Certification seems legit - just bought one :)

  • Any good for powering a Surface tablet?

    • Does an MBP, iPad and iPhone no problems, nice and quick.

  • Does this come with the travel adapters?

    • +3

Nope, only the 66W one comes with the travel adaptors.

Note the 108W charger is on sale for $50 (or cheaper per unit if you buy multiple) which will probably suit most needs

      • The 108W only has a 1 year warranty. This one is has a 2 year warranty.

        • +1

They're selling to Australia, so neither of those warranty periods are relevant. ACCC rules state reasonable amount of time.

          • +1

@ONEMariachi: True, but a warranty is generally easier than a claim under ACL. A longer warranty is also the manufacturer or seller putting more faith into a product regardless of law.

The 108w had 12 month warranty under ACL which is probably not right. The implication of that is that a reasonable consumer would expect it to last close to 12 months.

Sometimes it's just easier buying a better product than going through the pain of warranty or repairs under ACL.

            • @ihfree: A lot of the times, a smaller warranty period is more a reflection of lower profit margins, less than a faith statement on their product.

I’ve personally never had any issue with ACL. Either a business is willing to accept ACL process, or they are not. Generally the ones that are not, don’t care about their manufacturer warranty either.

  • Thanks!

    Their 100W 2M C to C cable is also discounted $7.99.

      • 2 pack is same price per cable and in stock.

        • +2

          OOS

          • +1

@INFIDEL: Damn 3 pack is actually better value per cable!

            3 x 2m 100W cable $20.25 = $6.75 each

    • Anybody received these yet? Still waiting on mine but it looks like the hold up is with Sendle.

      • +1

        Ordered 19th, received 25th.

Mine was sent via AusPost to apartment (not parcel locker).

        I'm in ACT.

  • I have one from the last deal. Very happy with it. I use it at work where power points are a premium.
    I recommend it.

    • Agree, good little compact charger that does everything. Great for travels

  • FYI top two USB C ports won't charge an iPad, but the third USB C and the USB A ports will.

    • +2

      I don’t believe it.

      • +2

        Believe it

      • Sorry late reply. I can't explain it. This is just my experience. Doesn't matter the USB C cable. The two top will not charge the iPad Pro we have. iPad indicates charging but it just drains.

    • Are you saying iPads don't support Power Delivery ?

      • I'm not saying that. I'm saying my charger's top two ports won't charge my iPad Pro, regardless of the USB C to C cable I use. Perhaps there's an issue with my charger, or perhaps not.

    • Considering I have an IPP charging from that second port right now, that is incorrect information.
I also have HP laptop charging on the high power port (most often an MBP but travelling with work laptop) and an iPhone on the USBA port. I don’t have anything to put on the last USBc port.

I reckon it is a good charger and just bought another on this deal because miss entropy keeps stealing this one.
Got the email and came here to post but beaten to it.

      • IPP would likely support USB-PD. Some of the older iPads and iPad Airs may not. However, most USB-C chargers should be properly coded to still support them (since USB 2.0 power wire should still be there). There is a comment from someone for this item complained about the same thing. I found it hard to believe the maker of this charger would cut cost to that extent on the first two ports.

Whether it is a good charger or not requires proper testing because most of our devices will tolerate inferior chargers. When you actually run these through a meter, you may see a different story. Did the maker simply did a glue and go or the maker spent time design the charger? An USB-PD chip nowadays does a lot out of the box.

So, you want to believe this 120W version is much better? Anyway, my old iPad Airs, old phones (out of warranty), I am willing to use 3rd party charger when I am in a desperate situation. I guess those devices don't really require high wattage.

      • I'm simply sharing my experience with the hardware that I have. Perhaps I have a faulty device? Either way it's valid information for people who want to purchase this to charge an iPad Pro.

        • Fair enough. All 3 USB C ports charge my son's iPad Pro 2020 just fine.

  • How fast does it Charge iPad Pro ?

    • +1

      Full speed?
It will be the limit apple restricts charging to for the particular model.
I find it faster than a 20W charger, but my old 10.5 IPP with a degraded battery might not be the best test.

    • Why buy this to charge iPad Pro? If it is only for iPad Pro, at this price, surely you are better off to get original charger. iPad Pro doesn't need a high wattage charger.

      • +2

So when travelling I have the one compact charger for the laptop, iPad and phone, plus a spare. All charged at full speed.

        Woulnt that be obvious?

  • +1

Does this super charge a iphone? or just for laptops?

    • It can fast charge both simultaneously :)

  • +1

I think this would be better with international adaptor like 66w version. Is there a plan for it?

    • +2

There is a 100W coming up with changeable adapters similar to 66W. We are awaiting for certification to launch it. We'll take your feedback and discuss about converting this 120W Powastone to changeable adapters.

      • Personally I'd rather keep it smaller as it is now if it means changeable adapters would make it larger.

      • Will it be the same bulid as this HEYMIX one?

        https://www.amazon.com.au/HEYMIX-Charger-Adapter-Compatible-…

        • +1

          https://ibb.co/mvf0V4f

Its from same Powerpod series. Will include AU plug. EU & UK plugs will not be included (available as add-on at nominal cost) to reduce e-waste as not everyone will need them.

          • @ibelievesyd: Another add on to consider is having an optional extension cord (so the wall plug is on the cable end and not on the brick itself).

Two big advantages: 1) the brick sits on your desk, and the cord plugs to the wall. Would make cable management much easier as you only have to have relatively short cables for your devices (rather than lots of long ones). 2) Wall plug occupies much less space (sometimes space between wall sockets can be tight too).

      • How soon will this be, and will it have 65W + 30W simultaneous charging?

      • I have a HyperShop one that just uses an IEC-C7 cable. I ordered every plug and cable to match and bingo, travel anywhere with the same charger. Buying the cables was a bit of a pain so its a massive upsell opportunity.

Its a far better solution because other power plugs often don't support heavy warts – especially when there's no ground plug – they just fall out of the socket. Plus it means you can route your charger to an ideal spot in your hotel room.

Keen to see your 100W version.

  • I have a laptop that requires 65w and USB A device that requires 3A. Will it charge both simultaneously?

    • +1

      Yes it will

  • I bought one of their 65W adapters and it died after a few weeks of use. And my 1star product review is never published on their website.

    • Website reviews are too good to be true. How was the return process? Is it fast like Amazon.? Or is it better to get this from Amazon..?

      • No one has contacted me so far :(

        • please share your order details with me via pm on ozbargain or via chat function on bottom right corner on the website.

  • Would you have information about the heat when it is charging? I have a HEYMIX GAN1 which works, but it gets really hot and I'm considering replacing it as in a way when it is hot I know it is working, but on the other hand I don't feel it totally safe…

  • What's the length of the included 100w USB-C cable?

    • +1

      1m

  • Dear all, if you intent to cancel or change your order, please contact us via "Chat with Us" section at the bottom right corner of the website for faster response. If our rep is live, your request will be resolved then and there. If not, rep will respond within 1-2 hours

  • Was keeping an eye out for this for awhile. Ordered with the 2x 2m cables, thanks.

  • +1 for international adaptors

  • I have one and I use it with a 100w laptop and IPP most days. So far heat wise, it hasn’t been uncomfortable to hold after using it all day.
My only request would be a figure 8 power connector like the DeskPod but in this size. At work the power points are often in an awkward spot for a full plug adapter to fit in. And it solves the interchangeable connectors for travelling issue.

  • It’s 99 on Amazon. Ordered one from their website just now. Ready to give honest feedback. But looks good.

  • Seems product sold out or price has changed now :( was mid way transacting

  • Might be a dumb question, but is there a USB-PD charger that outputs >100W from a single port? Just noticing the last Lenovo Legion BIOS update apparently unlocked USB C support up to 135W, which technically could let you get in some light gaming on the go without carrying the 30KG power brick.

    • +1

There are new PD3.1 chargers upcoming similar to Apple’s 140W. We have an upcoming 140W too under certification. Expected early August.

    • +3

Please don't go with 3rd party chargers for >100W charging (unless there is/are proper review(s) (someone opened it up to have a look at the circuit inside and run it through meters)). Think of it this way, even in the Apple land, Apple requires a new cable (USB-C MagSafe cable) for above 100W. Apple does have and sell a USB-C/USB-C 100W cable. However, Apple won't let you go above 100W with that.

Are you really going to trust these 3rd parties to produce quality cables right now? You have a way to check the e-marking data on the cable? Apple's 140W charger is a GaN charger and it is still fairly bulky (because of its safety design). You really expect these makers to outdo Apple?

I am not keen to test 3rd party cables or chargers on a Macbook Pro 16 inch. Frying that laptop will cost me dearly. I don't want to count on Macbook Pro rejecting inferior cables and/or chargers for me.

      • +1

Of course Apple will do its best in trying to sell you another product

      • Thanks for the reply Netsurfer. I don't actually think the Apple one works with a Legion. And Lenovo have their own 135W one for the future but there is no word on release at all (will be tied to their upcoming 2022 Legions which will use it, surprisingly). Wouldn't mind hearing the OP's response on your comment in regards to their own upcoming 140W charger.
Always appreciate safety advice, thank you.

        • Apple won't play nice with PCs. Different voltage / current combinations most likely.

Will the new chipset support both devices? Two cables (USB-C/USB-C PD 3.1 and an unofficial MagSafe cable)? I reckon two cables is wishful thinking. Probably too early to jump into USB PD 3.1 (up to 240W). My USB-C meter just added PD3.1-EPR (extended power range) check to its most recent firmware update.

    • I have a Legion 5 Pro I was hoping to use this 100W charger with.

      • +1

Lenovo's 100W charger has the cable integrated into the charger right? I don't recommend going 3rd party for a 100W charger. However, from past experience, if the cable is not properly e-marked, Lenovo won't let you fast charge your laptop. Hopefully, the cable included in this deal is a proper USB-PD cable.

        • I've ordered one, so will find out in a few days!

          • +1

@swhitmore: If you must use it, and in the event it won't fast charge, try an Apple USB-C/USB-C cable.

        • +1

Yes, the cable does have an Emarker chipset from Hynetek

      • It will definitely work, don't worry. Your GPU will just be locked at 30W I think, which is fine as I doubt you plan to game on the GAN.
I'm just thinking, now they have pushed the threshhold a little higher recently, we might be able to travel, and also have a little bit of Age of Empires or something on the side.

  • So the 120W charger has already gone up $10 in price ie 89.99 today as against 79.99 yesterday??
