  • Do you know if upgrades are counted?

    • Business Classic Rewards are included

      • You sure? Says economy

  • +1

are there any business class rewards flights available anywhere? lol.
I got all these points to burn

    • yeah syd - noumea in november

    • +3

      The short answer is no.

We're currently in a perfect storm of reduced flights (due to staff shortages & travel restrictions to popular destinations such as Japan), increased demand (everyone seeking to travel after being grounded for 2+ years, everyone wanting to fly business class to avoid sitting shoulder to shoulder with a COVID positive person, people accumulating tonnes of points).

      • yeah I am hoping more flights over the next few months open up so I can use them for Japan in April next year (surely, we will recover a little by then?!?)
Maybe ill book Noumea and use that as a jump off point to other places. hmmm.

        • +2

Pre Covid, Japan Airlines had very good availability out of Melbourne to Tokyo. You should be able to snag a seat next year, although due to the current covid conditions the flow of tourists that we are seeing will reapply to Japan when they fully open up (only organised tourists as of the 10th of June and there is no VOA option)

Good luck next year in your travels!

    • Same. Gotta look up Noumea covid entry rules etc etc

      • +2

Definitely look to see if it has changed but I went in April it was fairly simple. Rapid test at the airport before flight, proof of negative result and vaccination to board.
Once there you needed to get a rapid test done within 48hrs of arriving. They had tent locations setup in the main areas of town. Super quick, get test, wait 10mins in general area, go back to get all clear and you're good to go!

        • Cheers mate definitely good to know and sounds like a minor inconvenience. Doing Fiji later in the year but interested in ticking off the other countries around the area at some point

  • interesting

If your Trip includes multiple flight segments the discount will be applied to the whole Trip e.g. Orange to Honolulu via Sydney will be eligible for the discount if all flight segments are Economy Classic Flight Rewards.

    but also

If your Trip includes multiple cabins, for example, Canberra to Sydney in Business and Sydney to Honolulu in Economy, the discount will not apply to your booking.

    • Have no idea where your seeing any eligibility or discounts on Business Class flights!

      • search syd-noumea before and after 23 july it's 30% less points

        • Yep, just did that…you are right 29k in business. Even better HBA-MEL-SYD-NOU in business class is 29k in points. Disappointingly all on narrow body 717, 737 and 737. The A330 Air Calin has no classic rewards :(

          • @Coops1: yeah that's good if you're a points club member so you earn status credits on it

            • @[Deactivated]: Your talking me into it, I will be by the time I fly with the ANZ 160k (125max) and 20k QF bonus and some Woolworths spend.

    • -1

Not really. Both statements are consistent.

1st says you can have multiple economy only - and second says you can't have business.

      • -2

so because it’s consistent it’s not interesting?

  • As someone who has no idea about frequent flyer points, I'm sitting on approx 700k Amex points. What am I looking at here?

    • +3

      a qantas point offer

Can I transfer American Express Membership Rewards points to Qantas?

Only American Express Platinum Card, Centurion and Business Platinum Card Members, who are enrolled in the Ascent Premium rewards program, can transfer American Express Membership Rewards points to Qantas. All other Card Members (Ascent and Gateway reward programs) can’t.

      https://www.pointhacks.com.au/american-express/transfer-amex…

    • +10

You want to transfer those to the Krisflyer program. Even though there is an upcoming devaluation of KF miles, it's still better than Qantas due to paying less fuel and other surcharges.

      https://www.pointhacks.com.au/krisflyer/

Just note the hard 3 year expiry for all points. You nearly have enough points for 2x pax to go on a RTW trip in Business, you need 480k for that, you already have 350k if you convert to KF:

      https://www.pointhacks.com.au/krisflyer/round-the-world-awar…

You can easily get there by applying for more cards:
      • NAB Rewards is 3:1 and have $295 per year for 33.3 KF (33.3k first year, only another 13k second year)
      • ANZ Rewards Black is 3:1 and have $0 per year for 80000/3=26666.6667 KF
      • Amplify points like from Westpac/St George/BoM/BoSA are the best as they are 2:1
      ○ Bank of SA - 100k Amplify = 50k KF for $29 fee with 6k limit and $3k spend.
Suncorp Clear Options Platinum get 130k on 3k spend with 6k limit and $129 annual fee 130000/3=43333.3333 KF
      • $15k limit on Citi Rewards points are 3:1 KF so Citi Premier card is 130k points = 130000/3=43333.3333 KF for 4k spend and $150 annual fee.

      • Great summary for Krisflyer and I highly recommend it over Qantas as the latter is way oversubscribed for Oz. You'll almost never find cheapest award rates unless you are QFF Gold or above.

Note that Suncorp to KF is 2.5:1

Also, Nov 2020 and 2021 had 15% bonus points for transfers to Krisflyer. Not sure if it'll happen again this year, and is unlikely, but you can hold out for that just in case.

      • Would KrisFlyer still be better if you waited for an AMEX to QFF bonus transfer deal? (Ie where you get 10-20% extra points)?

        • +1

Honestly it depends on what you want to use your QFF points for. My main take is that for Business Classic Rewards, you will almost never find available business redemptions for popular routes, or routes on peak seasons, unless you hold QFF Gold status (which means you can access rewards seats before other status levels), or you are ready to book 300+ days in advance, or you are really flexible with travel dates and times.

Simply, Qantas has a monopoly on the rewards programs market. Too many Credit Card promotions, and points for Home Loans, and Flybuys, and Insurance etc… The over saturation of points makes it asymmetrical to value Business or First redemptions. And now that Emirates has severely hiked the fuel and tax surcharges, the value diminishes even more.

Of course, if you don't mind Economy rewards, then QFF makes a lot of sense…

Krisflyer (Singapore Airlines) has strictly held the ability to acquire miles, and hence there's a lot less demand/saturation compared to supply, and for an (imho) better product overall.

Adelaide to Bali in mid-January for $700 + 80,000 for four people - thoughts?

    • +1

      Sounds like a bargain.

      Prob 2k worth?

  • +1

I'll stick to domestic for classic reward. International fees kill this deal.

    • Are the fees always this high?

      • Was for NZ recently - paid about $1500 in taxes etc for 4 seats return - all points flights.

      • +1

Yes. Darwin to Bali return can be easily found outright for $300.
        Classic rewards fees are $140 + $80

  • Nothing for Perth.

    • If your Trip includes multiple flight segments the discount will be applied to the whole Trip

e.g. you can do perth - syd - noumea for 14200 points + $159 tax

  • +2

Took a punt and booked BNE>NOU return for $236 + 17200 points for late May next year. Been wanting to go…

    • Looks like the cheapest deal for return flights is usually $550 so an OK deal for me.

  • Nothing for bris. Noumea?!

  • +1

    still free cancel and change?

  • +1

Getting business upgrade for international flights is near impossible if your status not top tier. Someone with Platnium status will triumph over those with bronze at 1 million points for example. Pretty competitive on the grand scheme of things if you’re not a frequent flyer.

    • +2

It's hard even as a platinum atm because business class is always booked solid due to the return of international business travel. Business seats are going for 20k+ round trip on some routes.

  • How do I get this to work?

I'm looking at Melbourne to Bangkok for a week in October. Tuesday - Tuesday has direct Jetstar Flights for around $700 on Jetstar website. I can only choose the MLB-BKK flight on Qantas site. The return flight goes through Tokyo.

I can use all points on the Jetstar website for around 90,000 points for both flights,

A single flight on the Qantas website is 91500 points.

    Am I doing something wrong?

    • there are limited numbers of “Classic Rewards” seats available. they’re probably sold out for the dates you have chosen

    • +1

I just realised you can do a "where can I go" type search using this link:
Qantas - Where can I go?
And I have filtering by Business Class, Rewards only flights

This so far might help me determine where I can fly to using only points next year! :)

      • +1

this is great, shame you can’t filter out Jetstar flights though

  • Amazing deal. got 2 adults, 1 child and 1 pax booked from delhi to melbourne last night for 78900 points + $339 ($1128 AUD roughly in value)

  • Does anyone know how many points Adelaide to Bali is preferably in late August return?

I've never actually use points to book anything, but flights are around 500 return excluding baggage

    • I took a look and on Jetstar it'd be 20k points plus about $200, with included baggage.

  • Didnt bite the bullet and the phuket trip that was available for my honeymoon period is gone… Oh brother I'm in trouble

  • Booked flights to Bali within the period but didn't show any discount?
Is it already built in does anyone know?

    • yes

  • If booked flight with qantas points for classic rewards flights, if things turn bad and had to cancel , does the points get refunded back to account or just partial refunded ?
