1 Year Super Pack (Unlimited Standard National Calls, SMS, 1000GB Total Data) $499 @ ALDI Mobile

130

Just saw this in my local aldi catalogue. Can't find any info on it online. Getting pretty cheap for 12 months, for those that can't be bothered changing every month

Would be better to get felix mobile. Which is unlimited data $35 a month. Cheaper and unlimted.

      I agree

      • Pretty sure Felix is very slow though, speed capped at 20mbps I think.

        • +2

That's more than enough to stream uhd.

    • Thank you, didn't know about Felix. Might switch when my 12 month plans are up.

I just installed an app that tells you what tower your connected to. Turns out ALDI is always sending me to the furthest tower so my signal strength is crap and the phone drains quickly. I'm sure this is a Telstra ploy to devalue ALDI mobile plans.

Currently connected to a tower 5 km away even though they is 7 towers closer.

    • What's the app?

      • Network cell info

    • I get that with Telstra proper :D

    • +1

Are you able to switch tower manually?

      • +1

No. The best you can do is to power cycle the phone or switch to airplane mode briefly, which will make the phone rescan the network and reattach to what it (and the network) thinks is the best cell.

        Yup - quite possibly - https://ausdroid.net/2020/01/30/why-boost-coverage-is-better…

  • Thats a shitload of data lol

Not really I have close to 3tb of data due to roll over, I never think about data anymore.

  • 5G?

    • They still pretend that 5G doesn't exist.

      • Edit: disregard

      • More like Telstra won’t license it to them to keep Boost competitive

It's available to MVNOs from next month - https://www.telstra.com.au/aboutus/media/media-releases/whol…

The Telstra Wholesale 5G service will be available from July, initially reaching more than 75% of Australians. It will deliver Telstra Wholesale’s fastest-ever mobile speeds – up to 250 Mbps - and access to mmWave where available.

          • @b3au: It’s available to them, though not cheaply. Boost Mobile has it on their most expensive plan now ($70 per month) and they have publicly said they are making no effort to promote it due to the cost.

@Marrk: Except both Telstra and 'Boost' are "trialling" it on all plans through to September.

              Boost - https://boost.com.au/blogs/help-topics/5g-trial
              Telstra - https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/pre…

The trial will end on 26 September 2022, after which your service will default back to the standard in-market network access for your chosen plan and recharge amount at that time.

And who knows what the 'standard in-market network access for your chosen plan and recharge amount' will be in a few months time.

              • @b3au: Forgot about that, this was before the trial/can’t see a few months making Telstra offer it for any less to their MNVO’s.

    1000MB is only 1 gigabyte

Not really a good deal, if you don't need data the there are way cheaper deals, have 6 month amaysim for $10 everything the same apart from only like 10GB data
If you do care about data then you can still get cheaper 5G data for about the same data(1000GB)

    • -1

      10GB < 1TB

      • Um read what I wrote, you obviously didn't understand it or didn't read all of it

  • i think it costs too much. would be better if they threw in a phone too.

  • Unless you really need that much data/Vodafone is no good for you, Kogan Mobile yearly plans are a better proposition for most people value wise.

    Aldi deal: $499/12 months = $41.58/month

Better to wait for a JB Telstra deal with either $500 gift card on the $69 plan for 12 months or $1000 gift card on $99 plan (discounted to $79) for 24 months

    $69 plan: $69 x 12 months = $828 - $450 (assuming you sell the $500 gift card at 10% off face value) = $378 ($31.50/month)

    $79 plan (discounted from $99): $79 x 24 months = $1896 - $900 (assuming you sell the $1000 gift card at 10% off face value) = $896 ($37.33/month)

Don’t forget you can get the $10-$20 port in credit from Telstra too + 5G with it

    • Agree this a far better deal.
With these JBHIFI deals I dont think any virtual med telstra suppliers like aldi cant compete

      • Yes they can. Not at $499 though.

  • ALDI, where is the $99 annual deal?
