Oh for the days when Rivers boots would last longer than a few months of everyday wear.

Story of Australian clothing industry. Redback and RM Williams the last footwear companies standing.

      • All the work boots I've bought recently are also made in Australia.

        • I missed Mongrel, otherwise, happy to be corrected - which brands?

          • @AlexF: Think Blundstone still are

Edit: maybe just the gum boots

          • @AlexF: All maybe overstates it, what I mean is both my Steel Blues were Made in Australia

      • My Rossi’s are made in Adelaide. Cost $110 last year.

Edit: and my wife has Mongrels which are also Aussie made.

        • Are you sure? Rossi only make two pairs in aus currently and both are $200+.

@jrowls: Kudos, their legacy Ripple Sole Desert and Mulga Boots are made in Australia, everything else, overseas. Huge regression from their “supplied the Australian Army with 110,000 pairs of army boots to soldiers in WWII” story.

            • @AlexF: yep 100% - personally i think it is misleading advertising, considering it doesn't say on any of the individual product pages where each shoe is made.

i actually emailed them recently about it because i was genuinely confused. here is the text:

"Thank you for your email. We manufacture our boots both in Australia and overseas. Some styles, our Ripples, Shearers and Mulgas are exclusively made in our factory in Adelaide. Others, like our famous Endura range are made both here and overseas. Whilst we would love 100% of our boots to be made in Adelaide, unfortunately we cannot produce enough for the current demand, however this is something that we are expanding as we are able.

At the moment our leather is sourced from Australia, New Zealand, Korea, and in limited amounts, other countries. If you would like a boot that uses all Australian leather and is made in our factory in Adelaide, please see our new limited edition Enduras which come in both mens and womens fit:

Hope this helps and please let me know if you have any further questions."

Once 100% Australian, outfitting the army, now, overwhelmed by demand, they’re forced to outsource? At least BS is true blue.

@jrowls: Hey you’re right, it’s hard to find but inside the boot is the tag which said made in Indonesia. That’s disappointing, checked wife’s, Australia. Oh well, Mongrels next for me. Thanks 🙂

Edit: I thought they were MIA because it went about it in the box. Swear it says made in Australia. Maybe the assistant told me.

Anyway same for Blundstone, nothings made in Australia, but they sure as hell make you think it is, by going on about being Tasmanian but you can’t find where they’re actually made anywhere except the tiny little tag inside.

  • are they in AU or US sizing?

From my experience I'd say no, but…!? I've tried their boots on several times but the opening was always so small I had to go up to something like a size 10 or 11 just to get my foot in. My actual size is 8.5 so once my foot was in they flop around like clown shoes. I have a similar problem with boots at Kmart, only they're painful as well - strangling/jabbing into your foot in weird places.

I've seen many comments that Rivers shoes are garbage too, falling apart in anything from a few weeks to a few months.

Btw… I have no such fitting or comfort problems with Redback boots. So anyone who paid the full price for these needs their head read when you could pay just a little more, because I think Redbacks were about $150 (18 months ago) and they're the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. They do have two types though. One has some dumb clear material underneath that falls apart. I think you're supposed to expose them to sunlight or they degrade!? They make another type without that dumb material but I found those less comfortable.

      • you are supposed to wear the redbacks, with disuse the sole will fall apart.

unfortunately they are not that good for people with wide feet, i've got some and apart from the fact that they are too narrow, they are great.

I think Rivers Online has become a drop shipment company and its reputed high quality is no more.
I ordered 6 short sleeved shirts that were supposedly on sale. I thought they would be the same high quality as the Rivers shirts I bought years ago. When I received them many, many weeks later they came in 3 separate deliveries and were on par with $10 Kmart quality. They were made from cheap, thin material.
I think they now have fake "reduced from" pricing on most of their items.
Rivers used to be a high quality, family owned company. Since being sold off twice in 2013 and 2018, its name has become another label used within a budget clothing conglomerate.

Sure they just didn't come from different stores? That's what heaps of retailers do and you get a lot of split shipments.

Still, your point stands, I've also stopped buying socks from there I used to as the quality tanked.

Who would pay the RRP of $120 for a Rivers boot? That's bordering on brand-name prices, even at RRP.

  • +1

Worth trying it for $20. Thanks OP.

  • Size 12 only left?

Bought 2 pairs mid 2019 - one to wear everyday and the second as back-up and special occasions. Was on my 3rd replacement with a spare before lock-downs started. In each case the sole would start to crack at the heel juncture within 3 months and come apart. Fitting wise they seem ok but there is very sparse insole padding so footfalls are solid and firm when walking .
