Use the store/Aliexpress coupons on the page instead of this code. I got it for $35.56 shipped.

    • What this dude says, 2 coupons available on page, ends up costing $35.56 including battery.

I'm looking at the convoy S2 UV for $33 Inc gst. Waiting for another 20% cash back.

    • Convoy S12 UV from Convoy flashlight Store on AliExpress. 10% and 100% modes. 3x UV LEDs. It takes a 21700 cell. It's a bit floody and throws a beam 10m easily.

Simon (Convoy Flashlights) has a discount code on his Convoy flashlight fans Facebook page and on a budgetlightforum thread. It's about 10%. Already decent prices though.

      • +1

Make sure you get one with the black looking lense, it's a filter that's almost a requirement. They only sell the clear lense version because of a patent troll that prevents the filters shipping to the yanks.

    • what do you use it for? unfortunately there's nothing on product page mentioned by others

      • +1

I was going to get some tritium vials and install them in the tailswitch of some torches with uv resin. The S12 might speed up the process. Trit vials aren't easy to come by… I haven't been using the S12 UV much lately. It's fun to see what the phosphor of LEDs look like under UV.

        • I was asking "@first in line" but thanks anyway.

  • How does this compare to the awesome sp36pro? I grabbed one of those in the last Amazon sale, wished I'd bought a basketful, it's amazing

    • +1

1/4 of the lumens but at least 50% more throw than SP36 Pro. I don't have an IF22A but have some similar. I do have a bunch of SP36 non-pro and use them a lot more than the throwers.

Having said that, if you don't have a thrower, this is pretty cost effective.

    • +1

The IF22A has a very good throw, is relatively small and portable. It's not as pocketable with the stepped head but still okay, and it does have a 2-way belt clip.

I also have the SP36 BLF, and although it is a very good torch, with a lot of food, my biggest issue is the bulk.
It's not too bad when you are using it in the hand but not great in a jacket pocket. Also no strap or clip makes me nervous about holding where I could drop it.
I might make a paracord wrap for a handle or strap, or a belt pouch could be an option, but it's mainly a backpack item for me.

      • Legend, bought one. For $40 figured why not, have best of both worlds then. I'm on 5 acres, will certainly find occasion to enjoy the throw of this one.

  • +1

How's this compare to OzB's favourite, the Wuben C3?

    • +2

looks to be a bit bigger and about twice as bright at max settings.
Not sure if it can run continually at "turbo" setting, which I would be interested to know.
Also uses a larger battery, a 2700 instead of 18650. I like the fact the c3 uses the 18650 because I have a nitecore d4 charger which I can use to charge a spare battery so I never have to wait while it's charging, the nitecore d4 can't charge a 2700 battery.

      • Max turbo will probably be 20 mins and ramp down but will still be plenty bright

        • 20 minutes in the Antarctic maybe

    • +1

The Wuben looks like more of a flooder, the IF22A is a thrower

      • +5

Yeah - I'm more of a flooder than a grower too.

    • +1

I just bought the Wuben a few weeks ago, thinking good deal for around $30 but 1200 lumens wouldn't quite be enough, but holy profanity was I wrong! even the secondary light bouncing off your hand is enough to blind you!

      • +1

I had the same experience, was wondering if it would be as bright as I wantes and was quite amazed.
My only gripe is that on the strobe setting it only last me about 2 round trips to work (about 3.5h) but I don't know if my expectations for battery life were unfair for a high output torch..

        • +1

The strobe on the torch isn't really suited/designed for riding in traffic.

        • +1

LOL, do not use the Strobe mode on your bike unless you are intending to blind oncoming cars and cause accident. The Strobe mode is more for temporarily blinding a robber or an assailant.

        • +1

You're in traffic with that torch on strobe mode???

That mode is designed to stun attackers and signal rescue helicopters!

          • +1

@Sxio: Strobe mode is to stun attackers. It has the SOS mode for rescue.

          • @Sxio: Well on the plus side once he's done causing a multi-vehicle collision he can easily signal any rescue choppers within a 50 mile radius.

    • +2

I really like the look of this torch but from what I can tell on 1lumen site it drops from turbo to around 500 lumens after only 2 minutes to stop overheating. Assuming it’s the right model I’m looking at https://1lumen.com/review/sofirn-if22a/#performance

My son has the Wuben L50 which just seems to stay on turbo with no perceptible fade - 1200 lumens so for anything more that a couple of minutes his Wuben would stay brighter.

I’ve been looking into this as my daughter now wants a brighter torch than her brother but without any ramping hard to find.

      • +7

my daughter now wants a brighter torch than her brother

Get ready for the next blockbuster Netflix series Lumen WARS… coming to a backyard near you!

      • Tell them to be careful. These flashlights can temporarily blind even on lower settings.

      • That IF22A review looks accurate. Correct torch.

Most torches step down in brightness after a few minutes on Turbo. It's nice when some companies include a breakdown of the runtime (e.g. 2min/60min, 1800lm/600lm) to help set expectations. Some say 2000 lumens for 2 hours but they fail to mention that it may step down after 1 minute to 500 lm and again to 150 lm after an hour.

That's why some torch enthusiasts test the runtime independently…. to cut through marketing BS. 😅

  • Looks nice with usb and ramping brightness. But don't like long throwing torches much. When I use a torch it's normally to see the ground in front, not 500m away.

    • +11

I would CRI if somebody threw my torch 500m away

      • I see what you did there :)

      • That's pretty good

  • +3

How did you guys get 36? I have got 41 after applying the code

    • +2

Code doesn't work for me but one US$6 store coupon and one US$4 Aliexpress Coupon ends up US$24.39 check out with 21700 battery. 28 Degree card says AU$34.66

      • +1

Where did you see the $4 code?

        • There's a get coupon button under the price. Just click it

        • +1

Aliexpress stores have two types of discounts: store discounts and store coupons. Store discounts are the generic shop-wide ones you mostly see: e.g. save $1 spend $50. These would apply to all listings in the store. Store coupons (like the one above IUCA4OUYDUJW) are item specific discounts - these don't apply to other listings.

You can normally double dip on these savings, e.g. your item can have a specific discount code and also fulfil the generic 'save $1, spend $50' store discount (these codes don't require you to click anything, they automatically appear at checkout).

So for this item, Sofirn have changed the store discount. You now need to spend $500 to get $40 off automatically. Usually it's much lower than this (seems like it was $4US off $40 before but no longer available). So it seems like a couple hours ago you could get the store discount and the specific item discount but now you can only get the specific item discount which is why it's more expensive.

          • @jaffar: Thanks for the explanation.

Might give this one a miss. Already have too many flashlights.

  • +5

I bought one. I work nightshifts in a heavily croc-infested area. Have the sofirn q8 pro and it's good at spotting crocs but I've always wanted a thrower for it instead so I can focus on the better

    • Focus on the better… chance to escape? Focus on the better make a run for it?

Better grab an extra one so you can blind them in both eyes at once

  • +3

A fun torch almost completely useless indoors/within 5 meters, in the sense that it has a very tight and very bright hotspot that will blow out most other things. I mean you can turn it down, but that's like taking two trips to do the shopping.

It's also very cool white, relatively low CRI with a relatively inefficient driver.

None of that matters, it's a pocket lightsaber for like $40 bucks with built in charging. Get it anyway.

If you always wanted to be able to clearly define every individual sitting in a car on the other side of a football field, with a torch half the size of your fist, oh baby, this is for you.

  • Bought the Wuben C2 last night on Amazon, there was an additional coupon you can use to get 20% off at checkout, bringing the total to $30. Can someone confirm that it's still valid? As of right now I can only see 15% off here. If it's 20% I'll post a deal. Thanks

    • 15%

      • Thanks McFly

        • 5% today. You grabbed a bargain 👍

    • Was excited to check out the C2 then realise it also uses the larger and less common 21700 battery. Prefer the smaller and more common 18650 battery but I can't see any Wuben torches that are using 18650 battery with a USB-C port.

  • Got one of the other Sofirn headlamps last time. Definitely impressed.
Do any OzB'ers have suggestions for a decent bike torch?
I don't want some huge ugly-looking thing hanging off my handlebars, just something that is compact and has a decent light spread for riding at night.

    • +4

I don't want some huge ugly-looking thing hanging off my handlebars

My wife said the same thing - had to stop borrowing her bike.

    • If youre not desperate for one now I have an aldi one from at least 5 years ago, micro usb rechargeable battery still holding up. Has 2 brightness levels as well as a strobe function. They've changed the design since then but for 15-20 dollars it's been more than adequate.

You can buy this mount and use any Torch you want and its good quality.

    Aerospace grade 6061

I wish this silly slogan would die. 6061 is a general purpose grade aluminum, probably the most common grade there is which is fine for most general things like this, but let's not pretend it's something special like 'aerospace grade' is a thing. It belongs in the same basket as 'sashimi' grade salmon… ie a term purely invented by the marketing dept.

Pretty good, got a Wurkkos TS21 and that arrived in 7 days (31st May - 6th June).

  • Missed out on this deal. Was looking for a good torch for my bicycle.

  • Arrived this week, really impressive throw on this thing.

  • I got mine yesterday. Dead on arrival. Anyone else with that issue? I can't seem to contact the seller via AliExpress either…. 😞

    • +1

You've most likely already done so but just checking that you've removed the cardboard piece between the battery and the spring inside the torch?

      • Yeah. Even after charging, no dice 😞
