Acer Nitro 5 Gaming Laptop (15.6" FHD, i5-11400H, 8/512GB, RTX3060 6GB) & Bonus $100 Gift Card $1195 + Delivery @ Harvey Norman

760

For those who missed the Lenovo IdeaPad 3060 deal. Similar specs on offer here.

This is also the best Nitro 5 3060 deal so far (counting the $100 gift card) given the previous deal for $1098 had a 10300H.

There is also a second laptop with what looks to me to be the same specs on the website: https://www.harveynorman.com.au/acer-nitro-5-15-6-inch-i5-11…

  • I had this laptop. It was great for a couple of years and then the casing split in half.

    • I don't think they make 8gb sticks in the faster speed anymore. But If you are just looking to match for dual channel, then that RAM will be fine.

For guaranteed x8 RAM, you need to buy 16gb sticks.

  • Set mine up last night, learned how to use w11, and got gaming. First time I've played a game on a PC in years.

Vampire survivors rips, Minecraft with ray tracing is ace, good stuff. Bargain for the price.

    • Hi mate, does this laptop support USB-C charge? and also do you know if a USB-C dock can be used for external monitor?

  • Anyone know how and when you get the gift card after purchase

  • I have this one from the last deal 6 months ago or so. Replaced the RAM with a 16GB Crucial and it's been great. Can't comment on battery life as it's always connected to power.

    • You added 1x 16 GB dual channel or did you get 2 X 8gb dual channel ram?

      • I added 1x16. Was gonna get another in case I need but 1x16 been running fine for me.

        • You need to replace the original, the original is an x8 which will reduce the performance.

          • @R3XNebular: It will not reduce the performance by having an 8gb with 16gb ram. Still faster than the 16gb by itself.

It will just run in dual channel for the first 8gb of each ram.

            • @CodeXD: Apologies I mean the original 8GB ram inside is an x16 which will reduce the performance.
He will have an 8GB ram (x16 low performance) with a 16GB stick (x8 high performance) stick.

              • @R3XNebular: And then you'd want dual rank (2R) x8 sticks too

        • Apologise, dumbass me posted wrong. I actually replaced the built in 1x8 with a 1x16

    • Don't forget to cap the charging at 80% to protect the battery.

You can do this in the Acer Care Centre program.

  • Has nobody asked……. How many nits?

    • nits anyone?

      • maybe check youtube reviews?

  • Does this allow connection to a docking station via USB-C, to provide power, display and mouse/keyboard?

    • There may be some slight differences between models. But if you get one with the Thunderbolt 4 port via USB-C, it can certainly do display, mouse, keyboard, etc. I am not sure if you can charge the laptop via this port though - I am going to guess the answer is no

      • from HN page i see 1x USB 3.2 (Type C, Gen 2)
        is that = Thunderbolt 4 port via USB-C ?

          Hmm…

The main link seems to be for the 'AN515-57-52E0' model, which I am not sure about. Though if you go to the 'Description' tab on the HN website, it shows an infographic which mentions Thunderbolt 4. Maybe someone who bought one in this comment section can confirm, or HN themselves.

The secondary link in the deal description is for the 'AN515-57-55R8' model, which is the same as mine, and definitely has Thunderbolt 4. It allows me to use a USB-C to DisplayPort cable to run an ultrawide monitor (3440x1440) at 144Hz no problems! (Without this, it wouldn't be able to achieve full refresh rate)

          Hopefully this helps!

          • @JimmyLmao: huh? found old thread, ruanjiangongren said the opposite.
            https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/665552

I have returned the $1287 model (AN515-57-55R8) to HN and got the $1297 model (AN515-57-54ZA).
The $1297 model has a Thunderbolt 4 port but it comes with a crap Kingston memory (ACR32D4S2S1ME-8).
The $1287 model has a data only type C port (No Display Port) but it comes with a good Samsung 1Rx8 memory (M471A1K43EB1-CWE).

found manual from acer website for an515-57, seems TB4 only for 53 and 56 not 57… confusing!

            USB Type-C information (AN515-56 / AN517-53)
            • USB 3.2 Gen 2 with transfer speeds up to 10 Gbps.
            • Supports DisplayPort™ audio/video output.
            • Compatible with Thunderbolt™ 4.
            • Delivers up to 3 A at 5 V DC for USB charging.

            USB 3.2 information
            • USB 3.2 Gen 1 compatible ports are blue. (AN515-56 / AN517-53)
            • USB 3.2 Gen 2 compatible ports are blue. (AN515-45 / AN515-57
            / AN517-41 / AN517-54)

            • @CyberMurning: Oh crap sorry! I completely misread my own comment and you're right - I have the 'AN515-57-54ZA' model, which was $10 extra at $1,297, not the 'AN515-57-55R8' model. I wish the standards for retailers reporting these specs were a lot clearer! These model numbers are confusing…

Incredible value laptop at this price. Be sure to add a stick of RAM. Read my review

Though if you're not in a rush - keep in mind that Nvidia 4000 series cards are out in the next few months (likely in laptops at the end of this year), doubling performance.
