[eBay Plus] Eligible Sellers Pay 0% Variable Fees on 5 Sales in June @ eBay

2320

Just noticed this in my seller dashboard today. Though I have not received any notification email from eBay regarding this offer yet, it does say in the terms that it is a targeted offer.

To my knowledge this is the first eBay promo this year on final value fees..

Copy pasta from eBay:

Who is eligible for this Promotion?

  • “Eligible Sellers” means sellers registered on eBay.com.au who:
    • have Australia or New Zealand as their registered address on eBay; and
    • have an active eBay Plus subscription; and
    • have received an invitation to participate in this promotion and accepted these Terms and Conditions by either clicking “Accept offer” on the Terms and Conditions page or clicking “Get offer” under the “promotional offers” section of your My eBay account; and
    • received confirmation from eBay that “you’ve accepted the offer”.
  • Once you have accepted the offer, the promotion will be automatically assigned to your account and will be visible within My eBay.
  • The invitation to participate in this promotion is not transferable or exchangeable.

What is the Promotion?

  • The Promotion entitles Eligible Sellers to 0% variable fees, which is a component of Final Value Fees (as defined on eBay.com.au), on 5 sales during the Promotion Period on Eligible Listings.
  • “Eligible Listings” means item listings that are:
    • newly listed on eBay.com.au during the Promotion Period (i.e. they cannot be relisted items through ‘Good ‘til Cancelled (GTC) or auto-renewal);
    • in multi-quantity or single quantity fixed price or auction format only; and
    • not listed in one of the Excluded Categories (as defined below).
  • The variable fees will be discounted directly from the eBay seller fees applicable to the Eligible Listings when they are sold.
  • This promotion only applies to the variable fees on Eligible Listings that are sold during the Promotion Period.
  • eBay reserves the right to cancel or change the offer at any time.

from my understanding, you can list as many items as you want, but the promo will [or should] work on the first 5 sold.???

    • usually it will decrease.
could be bug on their side

  • +1

Yes!! this is what I have been waiting for awhile!!
Def the biggest deal for ebay Plus member :)

  • Damnit, just sold a couple of items last week :(

    • well buy few more things from ozb and re sell ? very easy to buy stuffs here anyway

      • Thanks for the tip Broden

        • i didnt say sell at profit…. most of the time, at lost

  • eBay question:
I bought something on eBay and realised I ordered the wrong thing. I went to cancel it the next day and eBay said contact seller. I contact seller and he says he will get back to me with the fee he has to pay.

What fee does the seller need to pay if he’s simply refunding my payment and the item wasn’t shipped?

  • thanks OP. This is a good change!

  • +4

TIP: List now and if it doesn't sell just end the listing before promo end date of Jun 30 then relist again to get another 30 days of selling time. You can essentially get nearly 2 months this way.

    • yes! this is better than the old system where the 5 promotion sales have listing numbers attached to them. Now its when it sells so this strategy works well!

    • So as long as the listing is created during the promo period it can sell after the promo period and still receive the discount?

      Is that correct?

Presumably by "relist" you mean "sell similar"?

  • can confirm anyone with an eBay plus account between the 6th to the 30th of June should have this offer when in the selling tab down the bottom on mobile view. bummer i already sold some items on the 4th and 5th but time to abuse this and try to sell some more expensive items (which I personally wouldn't do with the final value fees they have right now)!

  • Hi, thanks for posting this great deal.
Just a quick question for who have had experience selling via ebay:
What precautions should I take while selling? keeping in mind all the scams out there such as buyer denying receiving items or claiming it as wrong item etc.

    Thanks

  • Pffffft.. I got "You've accepted the offer "25% off variable fees in June*"

    • On your eBay plus account?

  • Are we 100% certain that this only applies to listings made after the promotional period?

    • +2

Nothing is certain with eBay. Their reps all have different knowledge of promotions, half the time will try deny any sort of promotion existed, the other half the time respond with scripts. You MAY be able to get them to honour it and refund fees for anything that was listed prior to the promotional period and ending during it, but they can likely wiggle out of it depending on the rep you speak to. Best bet is to list and sell during the period, screenshot absolutely everything you can to back yourself up if you get charged when you shouldn't be.

      • I'm more concerned the other way, that my existing lower value listings will sell and be counted in the 5 fee free sales. I'd prefer to not have to remove them / chase up eBay. Guess it's luck of the draw as you say haha.

  • This remind me of the gumtree/ebay free listing per month. hahaha

Just sold something and confirming fee is only 30c. No more wasting hours chasing ebay up for the refund!!

  • +3

Sold an item yesterday and full fee charged.

Trying to get online chat rep to refund.

Also still says 5 listings available.

EDIT: online chat sorted it and refunded the fee. If you have the same issues, they seemed to fix it relatively quickly.

    • +1

I am in the same boat. Listed something and sold today but was charged usual fee. EBay rep made me aware that I have to activate the offer through desktop browser. Can't do it through app. To avoid future painful eBay rep chats/calls suggest to activate through desktop browser
Hope this helps others as I can't see anyone else mention this.

    • Me too!!

  • I activated the offer yesterday but now when I check the "My ebay/Selling/Overview" page it says "Selling promotions" - "You have no active promotions".

Is this the same for everyone else?

    • Ok I figured out what was wrong. It turns out my ebay plus membership expired the day after activating the offer. I had to re-subscribe to ebay plus and then the offer showed back up in the "My ebay/Selling/Overview" page.

I'm not sure if I still would have been charged the full variable fees since I didn't sell any items yet.

      • So if you had activated and listed your items - say 7 days prior to ebay plus membership expiring.

Then you sell an item on Day 8 - does that mean full FVF will be charged?

  • Would it be no fees for gold and silver bullion? There is no GST on bullion sales but whenever I sell them on eBay the fees are extreme

  • +1

Do you have to make the sale in June, or launch the sale in June?

  • +1

So, I sold one of my items on eBay today, but got charged a fee of 13%.
Then I jumped in to Customer support chat, he was able to wave off the fee charged. He said there are some technical glitch so if you are also got charged for the final value fee, talk to eBay support.

I have activated the promo on my desktop browser
Sold item listed after accepting the no fee offer.

    • Same, same. I sold something tonight. Got charged $17+ fees. It's going to be pretty painful to have to chase these up.

    • Same here, thanks for your comment. Now I'm heading to the eBay support chat.

  • +1

WARNING: this does not apply for relisted items. It applies for fresh new listings only. I did get a fee credit in the end but only after a 15 minute chat, where they tried to shut me down due to items being relisted listings, not new. I was advised to kill all my listings and start totally fresh. In doing that you lose all watchers. What an absolute sh*tshow to save a few bucks.

    • How about end listings and relist it? I lost all the watchers too.

    • Wish I had seen this earlier. I had a buyer pull out of a sale so I'm guessing I pressed relist (I don't know how to confirm if I did or not) Just copped an $80 fee. Going to be a fun chat tomorrow. Absolute bullshit if they don't credit it back considering the first one didn't go through because the buyer just didn't bother paying or contacting.

      • Don't worry im sure ebay will refund

      • Another interesting question is - what if I sell 5 items and got 5 free FVF due to the promo.

Then a buyer pulls out of the sale - as what happened to you.

For argument's sake, let's assume this is the 5th item that I sell where the buyer pulls out.

Question is - can I now relist/sell similar for that item, and get free FVF (when it sells) - or have I missed out, since technically I have "used up" my 5 free items promo?

        • The counter doesn't add one on until the buyer has paid from what I've experienced

          • @MBix: But what if they’ve paid and then decided to cancel coz they bought by mistake so you have to refund them.

            • @proudwanderer: I've never actually had anyone pay then decide they want to cancel. In fact surely at that point they can't cancel? The chat reps do have the ability to add a sale onto your counter as far as I know, they should be able to take one off or refund the fees, but unless something works as intended automatically with eBay then there is risk of getting a less than helpful chat rep.

              • +1

@MBix: I’ve experienced it multiple times.

Nothing dodgy - They might pay and then realise it’s not what they are after because they didn’t read properly until after paying.

Or they might need it ASAP and didn’t realise seller is in VIC until after they pay and they are in WA as an example so it won’t get to them in time.

There’s a function on eBay for buyer to request to cancel the order for refund.

It requires seller to agree of course, but since you haven’t sent it yet it’s in your best interest to agree.

If you don’t agree and then go ahead and send it anyway - you risk buyer sending it back after receiving it (eBay allows them to do that) and in the end you will be wasting paying for postage for nothing.

  • Currently chatting with eBay for screwing me over this promo and they're mentioning conditions which are contrary to what is listed above on their original condition. I sold multi-quantity listing for cheap and the rep is saying that's against the rules.

  • Well I've sold 3 items, first 2 promotion worked, 3rd it didn't.

Did anyone see if it's in a single category?
Or is this another fail promotion and chat fun

    • It's another chat fun. I got denied the promo as the support said multi quantity is not allowed. In saying that, my first one got the promo fine so I pointed that out and also the condition they stated which says multi-quantity as part of it. Then the agent said but oh wait the listings should be made on the 8th of June. What BSry.

  • Worked for me, so far I have sold one item and it only charged me 30c as expected.

All my listings were new. The terms and condition says :'newly listed on eBay.com.au during the Promotion Period (i.e. they cannot be relisted items through ‘Good ‘til Cancelled (GTC) or auto-renewal)' which suggests manually ended and relisted items should be OK. If you prefer to be safe however you can use 'sell a similar item' so it's a new listing.

  • This promo is broken but it's a good thing. If you get fees charged, jump on chat and they'll refund you. The counter doesn't track so you can list another thing and hope it gets free fees too. And when that doesn't track, rinse and repeat.

You may get a support chat rep who is clueless (as I did) and tells you it's because you didn't activate the promo before listing the item. Calmly accept their resolution even if they refuse to refund and do the chat roulette again.

You may occasionally get a really knowledgeable chat rep who'll refund the fees and also deduct the counter - this is probably the worst outcome you can get. My account now says "Used/Left: 1/4". 😒

Sold 2 items, charged full fees for both… Such a joke

  • I just sold an item with this promo active and eBay still charged me final value variable fees, on the phone with them currently to get that refunded. So dumb I have to chase them up.

  • +5

Just sold a $550 item. Only charged $0.30 fixed fee. Counter dropped from 5 to 4. Success

    • +2

ah so the counter take effect once sold.////
      i have 3 active and still 0/5 thats why…

  • UPDATE: Ending listings and then using "sell similar" to list the exact same listing did work. My counter did drop for the next sold item and only charged $0.30.

    • it should. or you can just end it (copy paste all the details) and make a brand new listing. the current offer will be applied.

    • Good to know though not surprising.

I'm more interested if manually ending and relisting item still works, because it did in the past and it's much quicker and easier to do. I'll be doing it myself if I have slots left before the promo ends, and will report back whether it works or not.

      • Does this promotion apply to listings posted during June, or only on listings posted and also sold during June? I'm confused by eBay's wording.

        • +1

It used to be good as long as it was listed during the promo, the wording in the terms and conditions has always been a little unclear. It will be another thing I'll be testing given the chance.

Worst case it doesn't work and you can try getting onto eBay chat and citing this: Eligible Listings will only receive the 0% variable fees until the listing renews, whether by auto-renewal or because the listing is GTC. After this, standard eBay fees will apply.

Even though it also says this: This promotion only applies to the variable fees on Eligible Listings that are sold during the Promotion Period.

          • +1

            @Hiphopopotamus: Definitely worth arguing….

But I suspect it will be interpreted that both can be true

            1) Once promotion ends (30 June) - then nothing is eligible
            2) If listing ends and renews during the promotion (before 30 June) - then not eligible

So, if your listing ends during the promotion period and renews, what you need to do is force end it, and "Sell Similar" to relist it to be safe.

Once the promotion period ends, then nothing is eligible - even if you listed on 29 June.

The reason I think this is most likely what will happen - is because of the counter.

Previously when you list an item, the counter records that as a listing - then the promotion is attached to that listing until the listing end - i.e. if you list on 29 June, then the promotion is applicable to that specific listing until it ends - 29 July.

But now the counter doesn't tick over when you list. It only ticks over when it sells. Therefore, you can list 1000 items - and the first 5 items that sell will receive the promo.

That's why I think the promo will end on 30 June. Anything that sells after 30 June will likely have the fees charged on it.

However …. definitely worth arguing about if you sell something on 1 July and get charged the fee.

            • +1

@proudwanderer: It used to work the way I described, as long as you listed it within the timeframe the promo would still apply even if your item sold outside of it. The change in the way the counter worked actually happened before this current promo, maybe a few months before eBay pushed their managed payments and the seller promo drought.

In the past the counter would be hidden and moved to your past promos, and would still update.

We'll see if things have changed again, I'll report back here with my findings given the chance.

              • +1

@Hiphopopotamus: correct. used to be the listing date is the key. but then the counter will move 1/5, 2/5 straight away.
i dont know man… ebay is weird

            • @proudwanderer: "But now the counter doesn't tick over when you list. It only ticks over when it sells. Therefore, you can list 1000 items - and the first 5 items that sell will receive the promo."

This really sux. I like the old way so I can control what gets the deal. Ended up selling 2 very low value items that got the deal before the high value item sold.

              • @singingwolf: What you need to do is set up a second account.

List the 5 items that you want to sell on the eBay plus account with the promo.

List everything else - your low value items that don’t attract high fees on the second account.

              • @singingwolf: There's positives too though, such as a higher chance to use the promo since you can list more items.

The easiest way to work around low and high value items is to list the low value stuff outside of the promo, for example listing them before accepting the promo. Automatically relisted items should also not qualify.

                • @Hiphopopotamus: Safer to use 2 accounts I think to get around the high and low items

                  • @proudwanderer: Not really, it's just another way to control what you want the promo applied to. You're trading having to pay attention to when you list with splitting your items between 2 accounts.

                • @Hiphopopotamus: I did do that for the most part, but didn't know this was the way it worked now. Leason learnt

      • +1

That's what I did at first and it did not work. Only "sell similar" worked without having to generate your listings again from scratch (copy/paste, reload photos etc)

        • Good to know, I'll have to put in that little extra effort then. Thanks for the clarification.

  • my listing had no buyer, ends just now. Ebay relisted it. 3 days. If i get sold will i still eligible for this promo?

    • Best to end it manually and then use 'sell similar' to relist it, see this comment by @sparkles.

  • Got stung like others by getting a final value fee on an item I relisted. It's right there in the terms and conditions which is kind of baffling to me considering had a buyer not pay for an item then relisted it. Struck gold with the first chat rep I had who refunded the fee though

I also find it crazy they take the same % from shipping costs that you charge someone to but oh well.

    • Unfortunately you can blame fees on shipping to sellers who were taking advantage of it, selling $1 items with $100 shipping.

Did the item automatically relist or did you manually end and relist it? According to @sparkles you have to end the listing and use 'sell similar'.

      • Yeh I was fairly sure I listed it from brand new again, but I must have pressed relist item and not thought anything of it. Glad the chat rep I got was kind and happily removed the fees, pretty crummy of them to have that in their T&C's of the offer in the case of buyers refusing to pay after winning the auction, but at least now I know to triple check eBay's terms with things like this!

  • my 2 listings got sold tonight, saved about $99 in total with this promo! happy happy thank you ebay muachhhhh

    • +1

Here's hoping it's a new monthly promo instead of just a once off!

  • sold a phone, and i got my money transferred from ebay to my ing just now.

i dont remember sending my photo id to ebay, ever… - but some others said ebay are holding their selling money and ask for ID
    is that true ???

but yes i have 600+ 100% positive feedback, member since like 10 years ago. maybe because of this?

    • +1

It's not eBay requiring ID per se but rather their payment processor Adyen, which became standard policy when they switched to managed payments.

      • ok, but they dont ask every member but just some ie targetted ?

  • Does anyone know if you list items today being the last day of the promo. When the items sell next month are they still eligible or would you have to sell the items this month?

    • bro, read the post

This promotion only applies to the variable fees on Eligible Listings that are sold during the Promotion Period.

      • I read the post. I have participated in previous selling promos which as long as you listed during the promo period those items qualified until those listings end at 30 days.

        • Unfortunately there's really no way to be sure before someone actually tries it, it's a brand new day for eBay seller promos after the introduction of managed payments.

The wording hasn't changed but some things have, @sparkles has confirmed that manually ending and relisting items no longer works, the easiest way to qualify now is to end your item and use 'sell similar'.

          • @Hiphopopotamus: nope i think, previous promo has different wording ie that are listed during promo period something like that. and the counter will decrease straight away.
this one says "sold", counter only decrease when sold

            • @CyberMurning: You're thinking of way back, they switched to the counter decreasing only when sold months before they forcibly implemented managed payments.

The wording has always been a little contradictory: 'This promotion only applies to the variable fees on Eligible Listings that are sold during the Promotion Period.' and 'Eligible Listings will only receive the 0% variable fees until the listing renews, whether by auto-renewal or because the listing is GTC. After this, standard eBay fees will apply'. But in the past items would be eligible as long as they were listed within dates, even when they sold outside of them/after the promo ended.

              • +1

@Hiphopopotamus: agree ebay always confusing…. i remember long time ago when we cannot access the term and condition page… when we click it bring the error page… very stupid….

well then i am happy to say i have fairly low value items i listed yesterday, and i will keep them (buy now type)
will update next week/month when they get sold

                • @CyberMurning: Would be great if you can get back next month if one of your items sell - and let us know if you have been charged the fee or not.

As for the wording, I think it may not be contradictory - I read the 2 conditions as "AND" rather than "OR"

                  1) This promotion only applies to the variable fees on Eligible Listings that are sold during the Promotion Period. (key word being: "SOLD")

                  AND

                  2) Eligible Listings will only receive the 0% variable fees until the listing renews, whether by auto-renewal or because the listing is GTC. After this, standard eBay fees will apply

So what that means is the listings will receive 0% variable fees until it renews - provided it is sold within the promotional period. If it is sold outside the promotional period, and even if it is a new listing that hasn't renewed, then the promotion doesn't apply.

                  Scenario 1:
                  - Listing is a new listing (sell similar) and is listed and sold in the promotion period (on or before 30 June) ——- FEE WAIVED

                  Scenario 2:
                  - Listing is a relisted item (Relist) and is listed and sold in the promotion period (on or before 30 June) ——- FEE CHARGED

                  Scenario 3:
                  - Listing is a new listing (sell similar) that is listed in the promotion period but sold outside promotion period (after 30 June) ——- FEE CHARGED

                  Scenario 4:
                  - Listing is a relisted item (Relist) that is listed in the promotion period but sold outside promotion period (after 30 June) ——- FEE CHARGED

    • +4

Not sure if it helps, but i sold something today 1/7 and it still only charged me $0,30 total fee.

Hopefully another promo will come along soon, and this one wasn't just a one off.

      • +5

        @sparkles.

Also can confirm promo is still working.

I sold an item less then an hour ago and eBay still only charged me $0.30 total fee.

        • +1

I've got one out of the five left so hopefully it'll work again.

          • +1

@sparkles: Yeah I had a look at the promotion which now sits under expired promotion.

Yet it still says USED: 3 LEFT 2.

        • That’s great!

  • I take back my earlier comment. The sale must happen by end of June 30 (i.e, tonight midnight) otherwise fees will be charged. The T&Cs are slightly different in this promotion vs. previous.

    • Is this in the t&c? I thought they only needed to be listed by then?
Also pleased to find half price Sendle promotion :)

  • How often does ebay (plus or standard) have these sorts of promotions?

  • Was hoping for another offer in July…guess not

  • +2

Final update: sold my fifth (and final) item. It went through at $0.30 fee, even now, ten days into the next month.

Excellent deal, I worked out that this promotion probably saved me about $100 in final value fees.

    • I will remember that for next time. I cancelled my listings on June 30 as I thought it would charge me after that

      • +1

I thought that was a possibility, but definitely had two of the five go through after 30 June. Guess it's back to paying fees again. Boo hiss.
