My wife is Indonesian and she uses this. It’s the best one for rendang.

Still hoping for a deal on the curry laksa @ $2.12 last time - think it's never coming back :(

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/610679

    • Yeah the laksa is amazing as well.

    • Forget about deal. They don't even have them in stock :(

  • Awesome, I might be able to use this to make food, can’t usually be bothered with full recipes.

    Any super easy suggestions?

    • +2

Yup so what I do is cut potatoes then dump in a pot , let it fry then add paste then chicken/ lamb.

Shut it and delicious curry ready

  • By the way, it says it serves 6-8 people, but it's really a packet for two!

Maybe someone else can vouch, or we might just be a bit crazy on the soup

(this is for their curry laksa, which is not on sale or available at the moment, might differ for the curries)

You need to put on low heat and simmer in the pot for a bit, then add coconut milk at the end stage.

      • Interesting, in our cuisine we add first then boil

        • +3

You want the flavour paste to be "absorbed" in as much as you can into the meat then coconut milk later to thicken the overall flavouring.

  • Thanks, this thing packs a lot of punch. I reckon I recovered from flu pretty quickly cause of the Soupy chicken rendang that I was guzzling

  • For those who have also tried the Chilliz brand range - such as this chicken curry paste, what is your opinion how they compare? I notice that generally speaking the Chilliz brand is a little cheaper when they are both not on sale. Have yet to try a Chilliz one, Tean's is good.

I like both the Tean's and Chilliz - as far as instant DIY curry goes, the flavours are pretty damn good

    • +1

I find Tean's hotter than CHilliz. Both are good.

      • That's great - I must try Chilliz then. I do prefer less hot.

  • What cut of beef is recommended for beef rendang?

    • Any. Just pressure cook it

    • Beef gravy cut or diced beef at woolies/ coles, if you cook rendang that is, and yes, recommend to pressure cook it to soften the beef in short time.

    • Been using Brisket lately, in the slow cooker - works great.

I’ve come to comment. The Redang is very very very hot (spicy). It’s atomic. I know there will be keyboard warriors who find it mild but it’s hot - and I’m of Indian origin so can take heat.

    • Yes, I find it extremely hot too. The other two, chicken curry paste and curry laksa paste is not so bad.
