  • How much to get it wired up?

    • +3

It will probably costs more than the device itself

Do you have an existing wired doorbell? What material is the wall made of where you want to put it? Is there a power outlet close by on the other side? Do you have access under the house or in the roof near the door? How do you feel about visible conduit? Do you know how to patch gyprock, if that's on the interior wall?

In the easiest case this is a five minute job you could do yourself (although you should probably get a professional in, so minimum $90). In the average Aussie setup (brick or cladding exterior, gyprock on the inside, power point somewhere on the same interior wall) I'd guess ~$200 plus some patch and painting afterwards.

Edit to add: always isolate the circuit before you start adventuring, even if it's just low voltage to the doorbell. If you don't know this already, get an electrician. Legally, for safety (and for your home insurance) it's probably a good idea to just always get an electrician 😉

  • Can anyone recommend the doorbell operating and fast responding like Facetime? I tried some but they are slow, drop out, and lagging.

    • Who is your mobile provider? Me moved to Telstra helped a lot with those kind of issues.

      • NBN UltraFast at home and my mobile is Telstra, Hik Vision is no good, Eufy no good, I have not tried the Google Nest Doorbell as it is still expensive.

        • +2

You will hate Google as well then, even hardwired mine and it’s still slow. Ring was slow. Fastest by far for me was the eufy.

        • I'm using iinet at home and Telstra mobile no issue with Ring, but had issues when using Optus as mobile.

Stick to eufy doorbell…no subscription services vs this product.

    • +2

Ya, subscription-based doorbell is a joke lol Just insert a SD card and you are good to go.

      • I think you can't insert sd into eufy home base 2, only 16gb storage (if you have their camera then they will use the storage too)
Home base 1 doesn't have chime.

        • +1

I thought eufy can stick a usb drive to expand the storage

          • @wiltonson: Not yet, they are waiting for software for past 2 years

Sounds like a risk investment to buy another junk

Would prefer to get a more reliable doorbells like Ring or Google Nest

    • I've had the Bunnings one for a year or two now, pretty basic unit but decent enough for the price. Battery runs down fast if we leave the motion detection on the high setting, on the low setting we have to charge it around once a month. The chime just has a USB-A plug so we've got it plugged into the NBN router which is in the middle of the house and it's loud enough we can hear it anywhere we are.

  • Any more codes?

  • Honestly these days postman and also the Amazon delivery guy do not ring the bell.

What's the point of this? You might as well get surveillance cameras rather. This would not have the range and angle you want. Pls don't tell me motion detection and it's fixed camera do jack

Doorbell can be there but noone press it get anywhere near it. Moot point

    • +2

I have one of these and it picks up my front yard and driveway. As soon as someone starts walking onto the property I get a motion alert.

Obviously depends on the layout of your yard. One size doesn’t fit all.

I also have surveillance cameras. For $100 it works great.
