There are places that claim to sell genuine aeron gas struts if you want to diy. I can’t speak for them as I’ve never done it.
Good luck and hope you get it fixed.

    • +1

u can try chairking ;) make sure u get a headrest (fabric or leather) too, worthwhile addition for all Aerons IMO

  • This chair is actually a social experiment, to see how much someone will will pay for a chair.

    • +1

amount of nerds commenting it's a good price feels like hail corporate material.

  • +1

Mmm seems like we won't ever get the old prices back? Or unless recession. Want one but damn so expensive.

  • +2

I own an Aeron and have sat on both. Aeron is more comfortable for me. I am a bigger guy 6"1 120kg for reference. any bigger people out there please go with the Aeron. Also I paid about $1400 with sit back and relax last year why has the price gone up so much!!

    • Shows as $1499 plus shipping?

  • Is this joining the ozb HYIP alongside lego, eneloop, and friends?

  • Get a standing desk, better for you

    • +5

      not really

standing all day is as bad as sitting all day

the point is to move around regardless of what you have

  • I have the whole family of Aeron at home from this Office chair to the drafting chair, and the side chair… Only ever purchased 1 new, the others were 2nd hand, but absolutely love not having to deal with peeling material, saggy foam after just a year of use. These always look as-new (with a dusting).

I also happily buy the arm-less version as it makes slipping in.out much easier and don't miss them at all.

    • +2

I love the arms. So comfortable too

      • FWIW the debate about whether or not arms are ergonomic is pretty complex.

If they're of benefit, they have to be adjusted to a few cm above the desk, meaning they're constantly bumping into it, and you can't push it under the desk.

You're also not meant to use them passively - they are arm RESTS, so really only when you are not sitting 'at' the desk - only when you're using your phone, sitting back talking to someone, etc.

Ultimately I find them to be a hassle. Just sit at the right height for your desk IMO.

TL;DR: Don't spend 2k on a chair but if you must find a good task chair, for me it's Aeron>Embody>>>Cosm

Don't spend 2k on a chair. It's not going to be a miracle fix for your bad back, or make up for a sedentary lifestyle. The embody is an excellent chair, but it's overpriced to the absolute max here.

In saying that here are my reviews of the Embody, Aeron and Cosm which I've used extensively both at home and at work. For me it's Aeron>Embody>>>Cosm.

Aeron - for sitting upon thine backside for 10 hours straight with no issues (true task chair). If you can get it for around 1k this chair is well worth the money. Warranty cover used to be unreal, nothing they wouldn't fix or replace for free, even past the 10 year period (that's changed recently I believe…). I have the B option. I'm 6'1 and barefoot and 85kg which makes the sizing between B and C a bit awkward, but I still find the C slightly too big.

Embody - for moderate office work and casual activity's (movies, gaming, music). This chair is really well suited when coupled with a standing desk and a more active workspace. At my height and the embody feels a little too low around the upper back, however I am unsure if there are sizing differences with the embody and could have just a smaller version etc.

Cosm - for conference room furniture, and…aesthetics. Has cheese graters for arm rests if you get the leaf arms, and is not adjustable at all. However, I can't deny it's excellent build quality and looks. More suited for a side chair or reading chair/second home office chair imo

    Other options:
Steelcase Gesture - Elite competitor to the HM aeron et al. Held in very high regard by just about everyone. Slightly worse warranty than HM products, but the HM warranty cover has itself been reduced over the pandemic.

Howarth Fern Custom (not from officeworks). Embody clone. It's not as adjustable, but very comfortable and the options for customising are almost endless.

Ergohuman chairs: 1 step above the usual Officeworks stuff really. Very solid and very well made. More task oriented, buuuttt you can find Chinese knock-offs for half the price with a bit more plastic in them tbh. Give the headrests and footrests a miss imo. The foot rests add an uncomfortable amount of pressure to the piriformis and booty over time in my experience. A person in my office raves about them however, but they just weren't for me.

    Hard Nah's
    Gaming chairs
    Knee/Kneeling chairs
    'Executive' Chairs

    Dunno/Haven't tried
    Saddle Chairs
    Leaning Chairs
    Sit Stand/Active Chairs

    Conclusion
At the end of the day you are far better to spend $1000 or less on an office chair and put the extra $500-$1000 toward regular remedial massage, gym memberships, walking groups, group exercise classes, swimming, dietician and PT and the like. $1000 is ~1 years membership at an seriously elite gym, and many years at a community/council gym which are often excellent too.

Definitely don't cheap out on an office chair, but a $1500+ chair won't change your life as much as you think it will. However, exercise, a clean diet and just generally investing in your health and fitness absolutely will.

  • +1

Great write-up with your POV. Though, in regards to the Cosm, looks great, slick, but the consensus is that it's more an occasional chair for guests to your office, but it wouldn't be a chair for day-in, day-out use… You'll be left wanting if this is your only chair.

    • +2

Yep agree. I see lots people drawn to the Cosm for a task chair because of it's looks and HM's providence (and sleek advertising…) without realising it's not really intended for that. It's not nearly an awful chair by any stretch, it's beautiful and decent in it's role but absolutely not something to be sat in in for more than an hour or two at a time imo.

  • Is this that much better than secret lab or ergo humans? Those are much much cheaper.

    • +2

'Gaming' chair is a marketing term devised to sell you trash. Stay away from secret lab if you intend to spend more than an hour in your chair or any serious work.

  • -3

Can buy a new laptop for that price

    • +1

Or a mobile with Apple logo

  • +2

Is this a meme chair or something?

  • If anyone wants a like new Aeron size C remastered I'm selling mine that I didn't end up using for long. Located on North shore.

  • Fark handing over two grand to this daylight robbery store.

If you are sitting for 8-10hrs straight you need to get up, move around and spend time at the gym.
Not spending $2000 thinking you're looking after yourself. Ahahhhaa

    • Unfortunately some jobs really are that demanding

  • -7

Will probably be removed but neg voting because a chair should never cost this much for just being a chair.

    • -1

It's a home office expense and tax deduction.

And a (profanity) comfortable one at that.

    • You’re half right

      • -7

        Well said

  • Funny they aren’t having their warehouse sale yet. It’s usually around this time of the year.

  • Does this fix scoliosis? Can't believe things like this can be found in ozbargain…

    • Does any chair fix scoliosis? You don't make a very good argument.

      • +1

Lol it's obviously an exaggeration… Just like the price of these chairs

  • +2

I bought my Aeron 10 years ago from Living Edge and paid around $1000, whilst expensive it was one of my best purchases. If you can afford it I would highly recommend investing in your health, especially if you work from home.

  • With current coat of living this is the last thing i need. Poor.

  • -4

How does this compare to this: https://www.aldi.com.au/en/special-buys/special-buys-sat-4-j…
It will outlast for sure. But if similar comfort I don't mind buying one of these a year lol

    • +2

How does this compare to this

One is a piece of garbage and one is not.

  • +2

I got an Aeron in hard rubbish. Was tipped off by an office mate as it had been in his street for a few days (but nobody had obviously noticed it).

  • After some advice
I spend 8+ hrs on office chair. Im about 5’8 what’s the best chair given there’s a million Aeron Millers. I tend to get more neck then back pain tbh?

    • Is your monitor too low?

    • What's better than an Aeron Miller? A second hand Aeron Miller.

    • So maybe get the Embody then. There's only one Embody but the adjustments are really good so you can certainly get a good fit from all those adjustments. I've got the Embody and have tried the Aeron from colleagues and I really prefer the Embody.

  • +1

Anyone ordered via these folks? They stock second hand Aerons for $850.

    • +1

Those are the older version but it's still an alright price.

    • +1

I did a few years back. Stock varied and I inspected the chairs carefully as some had a bit too much wear and tear or in one the gas mechanism was NQR… However I did get an extra $100 by asking…

  • +1

I remember when $1200 sounded like a lot for a erman miller aeron chair, now it would be considered a bargain.

  • -2

I couldn't imagine spending this much on a chair, Ive spent much of the last 20 years working in various desk/office jobs usually on cheap office chairs they get from their standard office supply company and never thought much of it and never had any back or neck problems.

Surely there are cheaper chairs that can achieve a similar ergonomic result than spending 2k on a chair.

    • +5

"Ive spent much of the last 20 years working in various desk/office jobs usually on cheap office chairs they get from their standard office supply company and never thought much of it and never had any back or neck problems"

And some people smoke all their lives and don't die early of lung cancer either but it doesn't make it right :)

  • +1

I'm sure it's a great chair but hard to justify at that price. Personally I'd recommend the "Buro Metro" chair for a home office. It's a comfortable and well built office chair that's much more affordable. I've had mine for 9 years now.

  • Can anyone recommend a similar chair with head rest? I see the two in OP don't have head rests…

    • +1

Head rests are generally agreed to be not ergonomic. With good posture, your head should be evenly balanced on your shoulders - head rests cause you to 'hang' your head off the back of your neck, and strain/weaken the muscles.

That's why HM doesn't sell a headrest. That said, popular third party options exist.

      • Thanks, do you know if any retailer stock these so that I can try before buying?

        • Looks like "The Chair King" does, if you happen to be in Sydney.

          • @runean: no worries, I should have checked first before asking. They have a store in brisbane that I will try this weekend. Thanks!

  • At this price is it better to hope for a steelcase on discount? Or are the Herman millers much better?

    • They are not, I am considering selling a 2nd hand aeron remastered for an $80 2nd hand leap 2. We won't see better prices with so many brand whores in OzB comments.

      • +1

$80 for a leap? dont sleep on it

  • +1

Here's a video comparison of some top tier chairs.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Tn-xNidFrI
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pdtN6sGFWY

if you're on a tight budget - Can't go wrong with a second hand Haworth Zody on FB market for around $150-$300 depending on condition etc. Ranked A along with Leap 2, Aeron and Embody as per the above video.

  • I have to ask: Will it get cheaper in the next few days or so? Will Badbacks go cheaper?

  • badbacks have it on sale, too, but this seems to be the new normal in terms of sale price.

    • Might invest in a stand up desk then. :/

      • Standing all day is as bad as sitting. I have a standing desk, and I'm buying one of these too.

  • what are people making a year to be buying these chairs?

    • programs

  • +2

This chair price is doing better than crypto portfolio
    a TRUE high yield investment!!!!

  • With this price, the Haworth Fern from OW seems like a much better deal. $990 or something I believe.
