  • Cheers. Our dyson is dying some perfect timing
Had $10 ebay offer from shopback and 1% cashback too

    • How long have you had you dyson for? Thanks

I have been using my DC39 for 10 years. Still no sign of dying or losing any suction.

      • +1

My DC54 also still going 10years too

      • My DC05 lasted 14 years.

    People still using these mammoths?

    • +3

F7Ck yeah. We have a V8 as well. But nothing like the Big Ball with the Turbo head.

      • Second this, we have the animal complete version and been using it for almost ten years, such a powerful beast!

        • +1

Also Animal Pro here. Just had to replace the turbine head because the the rubber belt that drives the brushbar wore out.

One of the turbine head wheels came off about a year ago (hair worked its way in and wore out the plastic over the metal spindle). Still usable with just one wheel rolling.

6 yr old machine. Expect I'll have to replace the head again in another 5-6 years. Worth it considering the beast job it does with multiple pets.

          • +1

@Shard: Make sure you cut the hair and remove them in the turbine head each time after use, especially around the spindles!

            • @mrgeckoz: Definitely. The wheel issue was the two wheels behind the turbine head. Hair gets stuck in there too and you can't yoink the wheels off to clean it as they're notched in.

The rubber belt issue was just wear and tear. It got worn to the point it couldn't grip the plastic wheel it's supposed to turn.

I only discovered this after pulling the whole thing apart wondering wtf was going on (thought somehow something got blocked in there).

    • In the market for a new vac, what do you use?

      • +1

Miele C3 been using for 6+ years still going strong, much compact than the Dyson big ball, convenient on the stairs. Its bagged and doesn't cost as much if you buy the bags in bulk and easily avoid the dusty mess.

    • +1

Yes. Own 1. These are mammoths! Solid unit. Great on flat shitty carpets, does its job.

  • is this the lowest price?

  • +1

OOS already lol, looks like they had 8 in stock.

  • Back in stock (9 more available right now).

  • +1

    This price doesn't suck

  • The reviews I watched on YouTube doesnt impress me in terms of the build quality and the plastics used; I get the feeling you are paying a premium for the brand name.

    • Compared to what? Build quality is fine. They are not a commercial vac cleaner. For this price it's value.

  • Just curious, why do people still buy these manual vacuum cleaners now, when for this price you can get a robot vacuum and never have to vacuum again?
Is it just people with stair cases, or kind of like some people driving manual cars?

I haven't done manual vacuuming since maybe 2016 when I bought the Xiaomi robot vac most people I know still buys these Dysons, etc.

    • Because at this price robovacs are trash. The goods ones are $1000+.

      • This isn't true anymore. My $300 Xiaomi from 5 years ago has been life-changing.
Provided I don't leave mess on the floor, it can run it's self automatically every day when nobody is home.
The carpet was never this clean before I bought it.

    • I have a labrador. They shed like crazy and the fur gets embedded. Any hand-held is going to (a) not do as good a job as a mains-powered dyson and (b) going to run out of power quickly when trying to vacuum the 3 bedroom house. The robot vacuums have a tiny catcher capacity too and get filled from one room alone.

I do 90% of the vacuuming with the hand held and stage my approach, but for the other 10% I need something with better power to really clear the carpets deeply.

      • I have a labrador. They shed like crazy and the fur gets embedded.

Cool, that makes sense. I don't have any pets.

    • +2

When you need more power, robot is ok for the surface of the carpet but that's not where all the dirt it. Cordless is better but still not has good as mains unless your area is small enough where you can run the cordless on max power for a couple minutes.

I use my robot from hard floor only, cordless for the weekly clean, and mains powered for the quarterly/half yearly deeper cleans. I do also have an omniglide for the times where I want the hardfloor to get a better clean than what the robot can do. And yes I am aware I have a vacuum issue.

    • I think it comes down to the standard of dust levels people wants to achieve; for me, I am happy to run my Xiaomi robot vac twice weekly for both carpet/hard floor areas plus ad-hoc vacuuming with a handheld for some hard to reach corners. I only use the manual vac for my car interior.

      • I think it comes down to the standard of dust levels people wants to achieve

That's what I've gathered based on the responses.
I probably have a lower standard for dust levels than other people (I don't perceive any dust on my carpets like this).

  • Had this vac 3+ years now. Reliable but has some flaws.

    1. After you empty the dustbin I recommend tapping it on the floor/carpet gently to loosen fine dust caked up in the cyclone cones - this brings the suction power back up closer to new.

    2. Don't fill the dustbin past the max mark, people often forget this and think the entire container can be full. Affects suction power

    3. Ask dyson for an extra filter(purple/mesh). Comes handy when you can wash 1 and let dry completely.

Im still waiting for the day I can empty the dustbin container and then for some system to clean the dust and debris from it so suction is returned to an almost flawless state.

What do people do to clean those dust out? I've tried pulling the thing apart but got to a point where I'd have to risk breaking clip/glue whatever it holding the thing together. I whack it every dust bin empty to try dislodge what I can it but it's a hassle. After that I vacuum the vacuum with a bagged vacuum…

      • I do the same thing. Have a 2nd vac for this reason. They'll solve this eventually.

  • Thanks, bought the upright from BigW eBay instead, same price

Product warning. The name of the product is completely misleading. This should only be used on floors (and maybe upholstery)

    • Did you learn that the hard way?

      • It was a painful lesson to learn

      • jv's son?

        • I am jv’s mother.
