      Depends on your TV. This is android based so you can load third party apps like Kodi or a VPN.
      You can't do this for example on the majority of Samsung TV's.

      If the TV has all the apps you want and isn't causing any issue then there's no reason to buy these at all.
      LG and Samsung TVs I have both have great apps, however neither had Paramount+ so I needed to buy a firestick 4k for Paramount+ (wanted to watch Halo)

    Reading all the Amazon comments, it doesn’t support Australian apps and free to air channels?

    This product (despite being advertised to the contrary) cannot stream Australian Free-to-Air channels (SBS on demand, 7+, 9Now etc.) It also won't cast most streaming sites either ("Only available for specific sites.")

    We were sold this on Amazon Australia so assumed it would work in Australia, that was our first mistake. Second mistake was not reading others reviews to this effect. It’s not helpful that once we set up our device, including telling it we’re in Australia, then all of the language is presented in Japanese for us.

    I bought this specifically to download the SBS on demand app. Unfortunately, what we have here is a cut down version of what is available in the US and UK, so you do not have access to the downloader app. When you turn on the option to install non- appstore apps, it brings up the option to allow Euronews (!) to install apps!

    It is totally idiotic.

    UPDATE: I created a separate AMAZON Australia account and registered the device to it, and now everything works. However, this required jumping through hoops as I could not use my usual phone number and had to provide a separate phone number and separate email address.

    Ended up getting a Xiaomi 4K stick and it’s fine so far.

      Sounds like user error.

      One of those reviews even provides an update stating as much.

      I mean…. It does. It just depends on how you want to access them and how much work you are willing to do. I got a firestick lite for my dad and mucked around with kodi to get all the fta channels working.

      I was looking at a xiaomi stuck before I noticed this deal. Did it do what you needed re fta channels? How did you get that working?

        The Xiaomi officially supports Android TV 11 with the play store so all apps are available to install for Australia and work perfectly (including Netflix).
        Minimal bloatware preinstalled if any, so it’s very lean and clean. I like it. An alternative to NVidia ShieldTV.
        I also read people complaining a lot about the stability of the fire stick max 4K with Plex and decoding particular 1080p formats, whereas the previous 4K fire stick (non max) did it fine without a hitch. I tried looking for the non max versions but they aren’t available anywhere so I decided to go ahead with the Xiaomi to be safe.

    I was hoping one of these sticks come with Ethernet connection but sadly they all connect over wifi only. Is there any with RJ45 that you can plug into them? My Google TV stick is doing ok buy not getting full a lot of bandwidth on the wifi connection and the new streaming app I got is struggling with 4k channels

      Ethernet for Google TV is a great addition as well, recommended over using wifi.
