Wow is this a sign that ps5 stock might be going back to normal
Not even close. Not till mid-2023 earliest at least based on their recent sales projections.

They didn't mention how many units are there. It was for pre-order but people didn't turn up and now back in stock.

I was more wondering about stock being instantly bought by staff, for themselves/friends/family/resale

I am still surpriced this is still happening I got mine April 2021 and the issue was bad but not as bad as it is now it hasn't gotten better it seems. by the time people get there ps5 the PS6 will be released.
It has improved. Pre-orders dont sell out as fast and scalper prices aren’t as high. Demand has lowered but still higher than what Sony can supply

On a side note, I wonder what effect the prolonged stock shortages will have on this generation of consoles? Will it extend the lifecycle of the generation or will they skip the midlife hardware revisions.

I called 5-6 JB Hi-fi close to my suburb. None of them have any stocks and aren't taking names for the list. I was keen as I had a bunch of JB Hi-fi gift cards and wanted to use them for something. Mostly got them because of FOMO on a gc deal.
Next best option would be an EB Games drop but its always during work hours.
I got my PS5 as a walk in like 1 year ago.

i went in to jb hifi at chermside westfield and put my name down on the waiting list took about 5 weeks this was a couple of months back now
I put my name down at JB when I was picking up something in Feb but due to work I had little time for games so I ended up forgetting about it until they sent me a text last month saying I had a PS5 ready for pickup.
Nice little surprise. If you can find a retailer willing to take expressions of interest (which is what mine was) I'd recommend going that route instead of waiting for stock drops.
