Supervised RAT for Travellers $29.95 @ Chemist Warehouse

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/693337

EDIT. just realised OP's deal is a PCR test, not a RAT. Cheers.

Not just this but HistoPath has locations at the Airport itself and promises 4 hour results. $79. This is a terrible deal.

      • -1

This! Had my result within 20 minutes.

      • +3

I specifically mentioned in my post that that you can get $79 PCR tests in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane with Histopath to avoid these types of downvotes. Outside those locations, $130 is a good price.

What popular countries are still requiring PCR?

    • +8

      PRC

      • Isn’t that locked down? From what I saw yesterday no one can leave the country

        • -2

I think it’s just Shanghai at the moment.

          • +3

@Muten-Roshi: ‘Authorities in China have imposed a de facto international travel ban, forbidding citizens from going overseas for "non-essential" reasons, as the government ramps up efforts to enforce its zero-Covid policy.’

          • +2

@Muten-Roshi: no. for now at least 6 cities in lock down. And the funny thing is, some cities have 0 cases, but the gov still lockdown for ‘trial’ to check if lockdown works….

            • @PeppaCat: What other cities?

I saw a video where they were reusing the cotton swabs when testing people.
Not sure if they will even get to zero cases but I hope for the best.

              • @Muten-Roshi: “reuse” is rare, I don’t think it happens a lot.
But lockdown is normal, the “zero case” is the top 1 priority now, and gov don’t care about economics. I think “zero case” is important for Xi to be president again in this year. It’s getting harder and harder to get to” zero case”. If you check youtube, you can find lots of videos from shanghai

The USA, not sure whether you call this popular….

      • +2

        USA accepts supervised RATS

      • Usa accepts both PCR and RAT. I say USA is a popular place for its history and culture. It invented or refined basically everything you use on a daily basis (Hollywood, motor transport, Colgate, Apple, Netflix, Facebook, electricity, telephone, fast food, yadda yadda and so forth) plus the country geographically is incredible (Yosemite, yellow stone, New York City, Niagara falls, California, Grand Canyon, Hawaii, Alaska etc etc). Sure people can not like American politics or their decision making in the past with wars etc, still doesn’t take away my above points.

Just an FYI, Histopath have a fair few locations in NSW. Had my travel PCR done a few months ago in Western Sydney for $79:

    • +1 to this. Had a rapid PCR at a cost of $79 done with them at Sydney International and had my results in about an hour.

Ladies and gents, please travel to countries that don’t require these tests and let your tourism dollars speak for themselves. USA, Thailand, UAE, Oman, Greece etc . All incredible places and no PCR.

    • +8

Unfortunately no choice if you have to travel overseas due to family etc.

still need a negative covid test (PCR or supervised RAT) day before flying to USA

    • Vietnam does not require Covid test from 15th May.

    • USA still requires PCR tests. Going this Saturday.

    4Cyte Pathology charges $120 all over Melbourne…

    • Confirming 4cytes charges $120
Recently travelled Bali. When I researched it was the cheapest

  • Anyone have prior experience with the $79 PCR testing done at the airport? If I arrive at least 3-4 hours prior to departure (as stated in their website), are the results guaranteed to arrive before I depart? Usually clinics state 24-48 hours for the results to arrive at a more expensive price. What's the realistic downside to going for the cheaper $79 test that returns results at a much faster rate?

    • If you are positive, u just have made an unneccessary trip to the airport.

    • I did it once in Sydney and it took 3 hours even though guarantee was 1.5hours. I only just made the flight. Most people I know now go the night before.

    • +1

From what I've seen the result does come back within the 90 minutes window specified. Dropped off a few relatives at Melbourne Airport today and all their results came out within 45-60 minutes.

The testing site was pretty quiet when we came though so I'm not sure what the wait time for result will be if the testing site is crowded.

    • +2

Im personally not risking it. I'm going to the USA and they require tests taken within 24hours of flying. I have 3.5 hours between flying into sydney, getting to international and flying out. I'm not risking my flight to save $60 when i wont be able to control how busy the testing station will be or how quickly they will turn around the results.

  • +5

I am in Bali now. Go with Histopath for $79 PCR test. It's all good.

    • This

      • Where are they in WA?

  • Histopath does $79 tests in many regional centres check their list

  • "Testing Locations | Histopath Diagnostic Specialists" https://www.histopath.com.au/locations/nsw-locations

  • +1

I’m confused, in Victoria you can go to any of the state run testing sites and get a PCR test for free with a result sent to you in 12-24 hours. Is this just a bargain for those needing a faster turnaround with their results? Or do other states not offer free PCR testing?

    • +1

I'm assuming those PCR tests aren't valid for international travel, because y'know they need to profit off every aspect of this virus.

      • +2

Sounds more like private providers trying to profit off the public’s lack of knowledge of free options available to them?

        • +1

There are no free PCR tests
Medicare pays for them with our Tax dollars

        • +1

The free tests with SMS results can't be used for International travel. You need a test that provides a certificate with your name, passport details etc. Unfortunately, this is not covered by Medicare.

    • You need a PCR test result certificate for Travelling and it is different from Free PCR test result that you are talking about.

      • +5

You get a document of your testing and confirmation of a positive or negative result when you get the free PCR test and can take this to your GP to get the certificate for international travel if that initial document is not sufficient for the destination country. Again, it’s a longer process, but it’s also going to save a family hundreds of dollars.

        • Its not the same.

          Just do some research.

You need a PCR test done properly by a lab that identifies you in person with your passport details and the whole report.

Getting a free pcr test with a negative or positive SMS and going to your GP afterwards for a letter does not meet the requirement of all the countries i have looked at.

          • @forever1511: Nonsense.
The free tests have been valid for travel for two years.
            That hasn't changed.

          • @forever1511: i agree.

The paid version identifies your passport and result signed by a GP. The free version doesn't identify who you are.. (i had a few free tests.. but they never ask for an id, and also, I get an SMS.. never an email). Also, which border officer will accept an SMS as proof.

Personally, i think this is a rip-off, but there is no choice. Also, some countries require PCR tests but have more cases than Australia.

W live in a crazy world.. in Melbourne, we have limited options.. but I rather have completed documents and roam free when I land at my destination.

      • -1

        It's not.
I had a free PCR test in Qld last weekend, same certificates.
Got tested about lunchtime, had the result by 6am the next morning.

        • +1

I thought in Sydney, you just get SMS with result, no certificate provided?

    • The prerequisite for any government or GP led testing clinic is that you have symptoms of COVID. As for how many actually check or just go ahead and swab.

  • -5

Fellow Australians please get a pcr test before and after departure anyway. This virus is deadly. Don't bring back any new variants to Australia. We already lost so many lives. And for God sake get your 4th booster already.

    • +7

Can't tell if serious or not with that username!

  • Be warned this company's customer service is non existent. Had to go through a credit card chargeback when they didn't get us our results in time for an international flight earlier in the year.

    • How long did they take?

      • 72 hours - this was over the christmas/new year period though, when covid went crazy.
That said, they didn't reply to ~5 different emails enquiring about a refund - I gave them ample time to respond - in the end I had to lodge a chargeback which healius did not contest. Poor service.

  • Expensive and not a deal, cheaper PCR at the airport..
    Much cheaper in fact.

Repost when the price gouging stops and its $79

    • -1

Correct, however for PRC it requires 4 PCR reports - 7 days, 2 days, 1 day and an express before boarding.

In short, this is a deal for people who don't live near Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane airports, and are traveling to PRC, saving $60 per person.
