At least in Qld you are required to have a fence around this, otherwise it's illegal. In saying that, I'm not really sure how many people are getting fined for it.

At one stage they were using google maps (and maybe nearmap as it is more up to date) to find properties with a pool and then check they were registered, and would send inspectors out to check the pool for fences, gate and signage.

Incorrect, sorry. Any pool over 30cm in depth must be fenced - selling has nothing to do with it.
