Logitech m720 Triathlon Multi Device Wireless Bluetooth Mouse

Bluetooth plus USB receiver connectivity as well

Haven't got the mouse myself but seems to be well reviewed for the most part. Have ordered one for myself as it seems like a cheaper alternative to the MX Master or MX 3 albeit smaller than the MX Master 3

Multi device keyboards and mice changed my work life.

Now I get to work, put my phone in my desk mount, and just switch between work (pc) and social (phone) with the press of a button.

Typing is so much quicker on keyboards than phones.

    Love it.

    • +1

What is the best multi device keyboard that is full size? Which one did you use?

      • +1

        I use a k375

      • +3

        MX Keys for me

      • +1

K780 - Multi-device and a great feal for a lot < than the MX Keys.

        • I looked at that but the placement of the arrow keys really put me off. Generally means it is cramped when typing.

        • Is there a combo - multi-device keyboard and mouse

          • +2

@utsc: Buy them separately on different new account so you can use the $10 perk twice.

      • If you buy MK850 you get this mouse and the keyboard that can do 3 devices as well

    • +5

You mean all this time i could have connected my MX keyboard to my phone and didn't think of it LOL … dude thanks!!!

      • How do you do connect a keyboard to your phone

    • +1

but why you are typing so much on the phone ? whatsapp ? there is web based whatsapp if you dont know

      • People still text…

      • +5

There's also a web interface for google messages - https://messages.google.com/web

        Super useful imo.

        • Interesting, but I can't seem to find the right option to enable this in the Messages app. Does this work on Samsung phones, anyone know?

          • @DeepDreamer: It works on my Samsung A8 — Open the hamburger menu (top-left of the main page), tap "Device Pairing", then click the "QR Code Scanner" button, and scan the QR code shown on the site.

However, unlike whatsapp (or well, recent versions of it), this requires your phone to have an active internet connection.

          • +3

@DeepDreamer: Yes. I use it on my S21+ and on my S9 before that. Make sure you're using the Google Messages app and not the Samsung Messages app.

        • +1

          There's also a windows/mac app these days too. https://www.messagesfordesktop.com/

    • +1

Yes, now i can swtich between my work, personal and only fans life with click of a button.

  • +3

For me, the thumb rest on the MX Master range is the real winner. Just feels nice.

    • It's physically too large :/

      • +1

I've got wee little girly hands and it feels fine for me?

        • Also have actual girly hands and it's fine for me as well. I also have a MX Anywhere 3 for portability (the MX Master 3 stays at home)

        • I have tiny hands, the M720 is SO much better than the MX. It's HUGE and uncomfortable.

  • +5

I had this before the MX Master, and I really liked it. I don't think the Master was that much of a step up either.

    • As someone who works on large spreadsheets, that sidescroll is awesome.

      • Is it must better than just control or shift side scrolling?

  • +6

I have this as well as the mx master 2. Prefer the m720.

  • +1

I bought one of these a few years back to leave at my desk in the office, because it had the functionality of an MX Master, but the design was subtle enough that nobody would think to borrow it when I wasn't in the office (I wouldn't have to go scanning desks for it in the morning).

My new job doesn't have dedicated desks for people, so I have to carry it in with me, and the size makes it way more portable than an MX Master.

    • +2

My new job doesn't have dedicated desks for people,

ugh. hot-desking is a crime against humanity

  • +2

this is a great mouse, love mine

  • Still prefer MX Master 3 for the comfort.
I wouldn't mind flip the mouse and change devices.

  • +1

Had two (for I think $70 each?), one for work and one for home. Wife stole one, so I just bought two more.

I second previous comments about the multi connect being a productivity game changer. I only wish it could do more than three devices.

The mouse does take a little getting used to. The scroll wheel tends to bounce around a bit, and middle clicking required relearning some muscle memory. The only other minor annoyance is the 'hidden' button under the thumb. I often accidentally press it when I physically pick up the mouse, which makes Windows want to do a task switch. Muscle memory.

IMO this mouse is better than the MX Master 3, which I also looked at. The 3 has the unifying connector switch on the bottom, so it's a two handed job to switch. Poor usability for my case.

I have this and the MX Keys as my daily driver at both work and home, and love them both.

    • +1

If you install the "Logitech Options" app, you can disable or remap all the buttons including the thumb one. I disable the thumb button.

      • Can't do that on the company's laptop, unfortunately

  • +4

I have this mouse, absolutely love it.

    • +2

Me too. This was more comfortable than the Mx when I tested it @ JB.

Might get this one for the wife.

  • +1

The only thing I didn't like about this is that over time the rubbery surface becomes "gummy" and I hated touching it due to the sweaty, slippery, rubbery feeling. And you couldn't fix it with any amount of cleaning.

    • +2

Something like sugar soap would remove it. I had the same problem with the rubbery finish on some car interior parts. Sugar soap made quick work of it, but not sure how difficult it would be with a powered device (I just dunked the car parts in a tub of sugar soap).

    • I just use isopropyl alcohol and an old rag to clean off the rubber coating.

    • +1

The best solution I've found for this problem is using bug & tar remover that you would normally use on cars. Spray some on a cloth and then wipe the sticky plastic with it. Works a treat.

    • Thanks for all these solutions posted. I have this problem on this mouse, an older keyboard, and other devices with rubbery surfaces. I hate when they get gummy/sticky! I'm going give these suggestions a go.

    • +1

How long have you had yours? Mine is 4 years old and hasn't gone gummy yet.

      • About 2 yrs… maybe I just used it a lot (everyday)

        • +1

Or your hands naturally excrete oil more than others and it is rubbing off the finish on the mouse?

          • @CodeXD: I think I cleaned it once with an alcoholic based wipe so that probably started the rubber degradation. So tip, only clean with water and maybe non alcoholic soap. yes the finish become to rub off in spots

  • Would this be ok for gaming? Asking because I genuinely don't know the difference between normal mouse and gaming mouse except for buttons on the side.

    • rtings has a review on the mouse and they said it was ok for gaming. Obviously not as good as a dedicated gaming mouse.

    • +1

Depends what kind of gaming you want to do. MMORPG? Probably not, as it only has 4 customisable buttons. I use mine with FPS and haven't had any issues. Just tweak the settings and go

    • +1

      It's fine, there's 0 lag, good weight.

Download the Logitech tool and disable the weird little task switch thumb button tho

    • Gaming only okay when you use the 2.4ghz receiver… So plug in your receiver (by default device 1) to your gaming PC and the rest use bluetooth (device 2 or 3).

This mouse has low polling rate on bluetooth it makes you think you have low frame rate on FPS games…

  • +2

Thanks OP, got one. Now all I need is a multi device MX Keys keyboard to complete my setup.

    • +1

Highly recommend the keyboard, its so nice to type on.

  • We had these at my old job, they are fantastic mice and dead comfortable. It's a brilliant mouse.

  • Thanks for valuable insight as I'm in need and was looking for one got this with the Perks voucher as a bonus!!

  • any lefties use this mouse? review?

    • +1

There are 4 thumb buttons on the left side. They'd be useless to a lefty unfortunately. Switching between devices would be annoying I'd say.

      • cheers, appreciate the headsup.

    • +1

This is a right only mouse- sorry, I'd avoid it like the plague if a lefty.

      • Never used a left handed mouse. I'd rather be able to write things down and keep my right hand on mouse?

        • I write with left, mouse with right - very lucky.

      • thank you, this was very helpful.

  • I keep getting so curious about these devices. I have the k580, and it can't change between 2 Android devices. But I do think at some point, I'll do change the a mx keys as my main keyboard.

    • This thing can talk to 2x Logitech unifier dongles and a bluetooth device.

  • +1

I've had one of these for ages. I love the infinite scroll. Makes rolling through long code or documents so easy.

  • This mouse is part of the mk850 use it for work and it's super comfy ended up paying $112 for it via office works pm

  • +1

Damnit. I literally bought this last night, $7 more on eBay.

I don't mind the price difference, but now I need to wait for shipping

  • +1

Bought this the last time Officeworks had it for $40. Great mouse, very recommend.

  • FWIW I have this and MX Anywhere 3. If you could fork out a little more, the MX Anywhere is miles better. For context I don’t use the Trialthlon anymore, and wish I got the MX first, thus saving me $50.

    • +2

What makes the MX Anywhere 3 better?

      • Fair question. All I can determine is that the MX Anywhere 3 uses a rechargeable battery unlike the M720 which uses a single AA battery.

    • +2

I dunno man - the MX Anywhere is more than twice the price.

Besides the pretty sweet MX scroller, there's not a lot else to justify the step up.

    • My (second or third) MX Anywhere 2 has just died and I was balking at the price of Anywhere 3 and this M720 looked ok at first glance, but I'm keen for your thoughts as to why Anywhere is so much better? I've been using the anywhere's for a long time so I'm reticent to change if not necessary

  • This or the M585? It's currently on sale as well for $39.

I'd mostly be using it for casual gaming and work.

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/logitech-m585-multi-devic…

    • +1

Absoloutely the 720 - it's honestly a wonderful mouse, it might be my 'final' mouse it's that good.

  • I'm looking for a multi-device keyboard & mouse combo. If I get this mouse, will it sync with another Logitech multi-device keyboard when switching between devices?

I'm looking for a compact keyboard about the width of a 15" laptop and a comfortable mouse.

    • No, it won't sync with the keyboard, but you can use the one unifying adfapter (per computer) to pair to both keyboard and mouse. That means you have to switch both devices over (an annoyance to be sure)

    • I'm looking for a multi-device keyboard & mouse combo. If I get this mouse, will it sync with another Logitech multi-device keyboard when switching between devices?

The Logitech MX Keys and MX mice will if you use Logitech Flow by installing Logitech Options

    • The M720 and the K780 (lower cost multi-device keyboard) can both use Logitech Flow. Works very well. You do it with Bluetooth.

Will auto switch to the other device when moving the mouse to the edge of the screen. Nothing to click.

      https://www.howtogeek.com/317962/how-to-use-logitech-flow-fo…

      • Thank you. Looks like the limitation is that Flow won't work on mobile phones. But useful nonetheless.

  • +3

Great mouse. I bought one last year when it was ~$45. Love using it more than any other mouse I own.

  • +2

this is probably the only mouse that fits just right in my hand. i kept buying spares when the price was good.

OP might want to put "bluetooth" in the title for those who aren't familiar with this mouse's specs.

  • For those who might find the M720 a bit chunky, the M585 is also on special, similar but smaller and 2 devices, not 3.

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/logitech-m585-multi-devic…

  • Thanks picked up a second one for work. Also price matched the mx master 3 instore for the wife, the guy was impressed with what i took out the door with the amount spent

  • is that good for left hand user? TIA

    • +1

no, shape is biased to righties :(

    • +1

Using mouse with my left hand as well.
It's manageable, taking one day to get used to LOL.

    • Absoloutely can't recommend this - don't do it. It's a right handed mouse.

  • Downgrading from G703, it's a good deal. G703 started acting up after 8 years lol I changed the click buttons, it then lasted another 2 years, now just acts up in winters when humidity is high.

  • I have a M720 mouse used with a K380 keyboard. It’s the perfect TKL set up for me and easily switches between work Windows laptop, iPad, and MacBook Pro. Will get another M720 to leave in the work bag. Thanks OP!

    • I have found some BT Keyboards to have a lag when typing. Does this ever happen to you?

      • I do get some occasional lag but it’s not that bad. I just keep typing and the text on screen generally has a speed up spurt and catches up. The main cause seems to be interference. I’ve got 3 laptops running (Windows, MacOS, and Linux), plus iPad, plus 2 iPhones, which all have Bluetooth on. The metal stand that my MacBook sits on doesn’t help either. So occasionally the keyboard and mouse will drop off the Windows laptop. The Bluetooth connection to the MacBook is rock solid so I suspect it’s more to do with Windows and / or the crappy work issued laptop.

  • +1

I have that mouse and never use it. It's too big and heavy for me.
It's good if you like a palm grip mouse.
After buying it years ago I realised I prefer lighter mice and finger/claw grip.

If anyone is wondering, the mouse is 134g with a AA battery.

  • +1

Good point. Just collected mine today and yea it is a bit bulkier than the "standard" mice that we tend to be provided with at work. I do like it so far though. Staff member at JB HiFi was like "we have two baskets of mice waiting to be collected!" :)

    • lol this is the ozbargain effect…retailer suddenly finds an inexplicable demand for product

  • How to disable the go back/forward functions of the centre scroll button? It happened many times when I was filling out a form and accidentally pushed the button left

    • +1

Is this on a Mac? I've used these for 2 years, never done that for me.

      The wheel?

    • Check if it isn't the thumb buttons you are referring to? You might have to install the logitech software to disable.

  • +1

I bought this, I like it so far, thank you
