    $52 p/kg is considered a bargain?

Yeah I’d love to see a discussion or explanation to coffee prices. You can get cheap cheap coffee here for $25/kg, I’d like to know what impacts prices so much. Is it quality, process, market forces etc? But in depth.

I bought 2kg of beans recently from a Perth seller for $100, and it’s just not that much better than the stuff half that price.

I buy for $25 to $32 p/kg from DiVenzio or Mocopan (Pasquale blend) and they are both great for Italian espresso.

I've also bought $55-65 p/kg from almost all the hipster roasters and it's probably good coffee, but not at all good for Italian espresso.

Perhaps it costs more to roast coffee for use other than traditional espresso, but I doubt it, I think it's just marketing and fluff to boost the price.

To help explain, my background is as a professional barsita and my favorite coffee is Tazzo 'doro in Rome. I'm not bragging, I just mention it to demonstrate I do have experience with coffee and understand what good coffee tastes like, I also see through the coffee marketing and don't, in my opinion, overpay for said marketing.

          Thanks for that, interesting.

I normally use a Moka Express in the morning (= dark roast) and French press (= light roast) in the arvo. I would be interested in trying those beans you mentioned.

I recently got some coffee from the supermarket which displayed the roast date, which was recent, and it was great. But would have been $40/kg.

@GeneralSkunk: If you like espresso from machine, i.e. not a moka or plunger, I'd highly recommend the two I mentioned.

I have used both in a moka and they are very good with an appropriate grind adjustment, but I find you could go even cheaper again for moka as it's more forgiving to cheaper blends/roasts.

Glad I was able to provide info that was useful 👍

        • For an Italian-style coffee, probably not so much.
On the other end filter coffee, is a completely different story.
A lot of the sought-for flavours (filter) are typically found in beans grown in very specific environments and conditions where they are quite delicate and you wouldn't want to sell it as a darker roast which masks these flavours.

Although everyone has their preferences and tastes. .

    Website:

    • Standard Shipping is $6 for orders under $40.
    • Standard Shipping is FREE for orders over $40.

    OzBargain:

    • Parcel Post is $6 for orders under $50
    • Parcel Post is FREE for orders over $50

How do you distinguish regular customers from OzBargainers and why do we get a worse deal?

  • Cant recommend these guys. The 1-2 shipping is bulldust. Ordered on 7th May, expected delivery after 14th May!! And i am Melbourne. Ill be requesting a refund if the beans are already old
