    Tell ‘em the price, son.

And the store. And that Bitwarden is free.

Moved to Bitwarden and deleted my Lastpass account after the single device change

        • +8

Same, and actually found Bitwarden worked better for me.

        • +3

Likewise. I did however splash out and paid the yearly $10 subscription. It includes managing 2FA entries if needed and saves using a third party app. It has other features but don't use them.

          • @Borg: Stuck with Authy for 2FA, thought going Bitwarden might end up being an 'all eggs in 1 basket' approach.

            • @Pobman: To be honest, I (with my tin foil hat) only add credentials and 2FA into any one basket for things that don't pose as a risk if hacked. I wouldn't place my bank details in there and also incl 2FA Auth (nor in Lastpass). I use Keepass locally for "all" my credentials and Bitwarden for the 2FA component where needed. As noted, I don't mind including all details incl 2FA for places that wouldn't be a drama if hacked. I just don't trust any app especially cloud with my private credentials. Plenty of Tin foil here :-)

I been using Edge and switched to their password manager. Works well on apple devices and of-course on windows. Tell LP they dreaming

    something something…. Bitwarden

  • I use 1Password for personal and LastPass at my work. LastPass is no way near as good as 1Password. It doesn’t save old passwords, creating custom fields is so much better in 1Password, the UI is clunky and it’s Mac integration is not even close to 1Password. I wish work would let me use 1Password too

    • Aha my experience was similar with BW for private use and LP for a 9 month contract I did recently. Was glad to ditch LP.

    • LastPass does retain password history. I have it for work and can view my password history as well as edits to secure notes. Is it possible your LastPass administrator has disabled that capability? LastPass has a pretty large number of policies admins can set that impacts what non admin users can and can’t do, and perhaps that’s one of the policies.

But yeah agreed, 1Password is the better option and I also use that as my personal vault.

  • I have been using the chrome built in pw manager and can't see anything wrong with it.
What advantages do LP, BW, 1P etc have over the browser built in pw manager?

    • +2

      Too many to write down
      - one username password entry can be shared between multiple apps/domains. This weakness becomes very evident with browsers when you for example change your Facebook password and the messenger password doesn't update. Or you go to log into the messenger app and it still has the old fb password.
      - sharing logins. Bw lets you share credentials with other users (1 other user in the free tier)
      - custom fields. BW let's you type the specific name of a username/pw field for those annoying websites that use custom fields that don't work with autofill
      - compromised passwords. If you're willing to go premium, BW tells you if your login was found in a data breach
      - 2FA. Bw premium includes 2fa
      - password history. If you change your password and it messes up, Bw keeps record of your old password. Chrome doesn't. If you hit 'update' for their password update prompt, but then the password didn't actually update properly on the website, you now don't know your password
      - cross compatibility. Bw works with laptops (Mac and Windows), all major browsers, iPhone, ipad and Android, etc
      - secure notes and file storage
      - open source
      - easy import/export of passwords to a different service
      - and a bunch more

Browser password managers are for the 'average user' and if they meet your needs that's fine, keep using them. But actual password managers offer way more benefit for a bit more effort

Another biggie is the standalone ones are browser agnostic compared to Chrome, Apple KeyChain etc which lock you into ecosystems.

For Mac just this week 1Password 8 was released which uses Apples framework to allow password entry into desktop apps, not just web pages, which is a nice new feature to have when you’re working outside of a browser. Similar to what you get on mobile devices into apps.

  • I've used LP for a long time but have switched to bitwarden because of your greedy policies op!

  • +1

Same moved to bitwarden after LastPass asked for money free product is two restrictive for general use. As others have pointed out better free products exist

  • Microsoft Authenticator+AutoFill is now my go to, free, massive feature improvements over the last few months, works as a good as Lastpass did for me as far as site compatibility. Backing of a major company gives me confidence in product.

  • Can we use this 20% off to extend our (current customer's) subscription?

    • No you can't.

OP you neglected to mention the terms and conditions:
