Cost Estimate to Repair This Car Accident?

Hey all,

I was in an accident (first one :( ) just today. It was nothing major but wanted to ask you how much you think it would cost me to repair this?

It was not my fault. I have insurance and got the other driver's details, so I am planning to make a claim once the kids are put to bed.

I also want to ask, will this increase my premiums if I make a claim even though I am not at fault?

Car is 2012 Toyota Corolla Sedan.

    Somewhere between $17.50 and $1,200,000

Please post the quote when you get it so we can see who was closest in here. My guess $2,198

  • I had similiar damage to my car early during covid. Cost the other drivers insurance company about $2500. YMMV.

  • The other driver called me asking if we can sort it out without getting insurance involved. I'm almost ready to accept it if they can repair same day and give it back as how it was.

    Thoughts?

      Don't.

You pay insurance for two reasons:

      1. So you don't have to declare bankruptcy from hitting a million dollar car,

      2. So you don't have to deal with the other party from a crash whether at fault or not.

I have had the pleasure of 2. When I had fire, theft and other party property once instead of comprehensive. Long story short, are you willing to take the risk of being f&$ed around by some tool so they can save some $'s?

IF you don't want to involve your insurance, you COULD take your car to a repair shop you trust and get a quote then give it to the other party and see if they will accept or not…..also the hire car for any period that car is not available to you.

Also consider resale of the car. If not structural and limited to panel work and paint, you want that done properly so it's not an issue for another buyer.

At the end of the day if the car being repaired properly without cost of money to you and minimal other impact is met then perhaps you might go with old mates idea, but I would not accept using their repairer or anything either so consider the issues there.

      • Alternative viewpoint. Settling outside insurance is better IF and ONLY IF the other party pays promptly without drama. If smaller claims do not involve insurers the insurance premiums remain lower overall.

        1. Get a quote for the repair in writing. Make sure it’s itemised so they can see what it’s really going to cost.
        2. Ask them for payment.
3a. If they pay, either pocket the cash or get the car repaired.
3b. If they immediately start questioning the costs and sound like they aren’t going to pay, go straight to your insurer and make a claim.
    • Personally I wouldn't consider it (and refused such an offer 2 years ago when someone rear ended me in a car park). But if you do do it, then make sure it is quotes from YOUR preferred repairer and the second he challenges or bargains or wants to do anything other than pay up immediately then forget it and get insurance involved.

  • i had similar damage to my car and they quoted 4k, so i just fixed it myself total costs like $150

  • Cost $0, leave it as is.

  • Ahh, The often overlooked brother of the venerable camry dent. The Corolla Scrape.

    About tree fiddy i reckon

  • $2000. it's probably dependent on how much $ the panel beaters in your area willing to accept to do the job. They all seem to be colluded on the minimum amount.

  • Hope you are doing OK. If you weren't at fault and have taken other drivers details, then simply raise a claim and pass on the details to insurer. Most likely you will get a rental car, free of cost while your car is being fixed (as you are not at fault here). All the costs (fixing+car hire) will be covered by other party's insurance and shouldn't affect your premium or excess.
Please speak to your insurance company and confirm this.

  • Most of that would buff out, most of that looks like paint transfer (other car black?)

Should not affect your premiums, unless the the other driver changes their mind and does not accept responsibility and say it is your fault.
You should make your claim and let your insurance company handle it. As long it is Comprehensive insurance, I think it is more of a pain if you only play third party property.

  • Pour some hot water over it and it should pop out

    I'll see myself out now

  • 1 get a quote
2 settle with the driver for cash
3 polish out 90% of the problem
    4 keep cash

so its one panel and the bumper. About $1000-1300 I’d say. Assuming thats the base white coat. If there is metalic blend might be higher.

As others have said, lodge it with your insurance company.
As it is not your fault and you have the other driver's details, it won't affect your premium or NCB.
Your insurance company will organise to get your car fixed ASAP, whilst going after the other driver for the costs.

Less headaches for you, quickest and easiest way to get your car fixed.

  • $650, 3 days work and a six pack if you want it sooner.

so I got two quotes: both approximately $500. (all those who were right collect your virtual prize :PRIZE:)

A day's worth of work, so I will add $ 40 to the quote so that I can take uber back home.

I am just thinking of going with the other driver paying me out.

My insurance did call me, but I asked them to give me a callback tomorrow. Should I talk to them or ask them anything? I have already put in a claim, but on their website I know I can withdraw it. So no issues from that end.

  • The shadow placement in that photo……

  • Probably $800+ lol, someone did a little scratch on my car instead of going through insurance they had to pay $600 to get it fixed.

    Between $1234 and $4321

  • If you use your insurance the work is warrantied, too

I've seen estimates here ranging from $300 to $4000. Hopefully that narrows it down for you OP

  • I think the usual going rate is $1k per panel… You can get cheaper like $500-$600 per panel

  • Had way worse damage repaired 4 weeks ago for less that $1500, major repairer completed the job, the door crease was completely folded inwards, smash marks through to bare metal on 2 panels, including a fender that has a snorkel in the way and flares. New towing mirror was $300 of that repair bill.

Have had 3 whole panels done previously to the most recent one, again requiring bullbar, snorkel and flares to be removed and re fitted and that job was only $2300, I also have red metallic paint, not basic white like you.

Your damages are not bad at all.

That will be a dent pull and a buff job. Probably $500 at most. Don't fret at the bullshit on here that people are telling you about $4000+.

If that's what they are paying for a repair then that have seriously been ripped off.

  • Buy a magic pen from eBay for 20 dollars, it will erase that damage.

It works, I've seen videos of it.
