Have been trying to open an account this last week on using the Android app.
Goes all the way through to the end - then ends with a Thank you message, but after that nothing.
    No SMS or email, nothing.
What a waste of my time.

Looks a buggy app or some other Hiver issue.
And support no help at all, so I guess Hiver is out for me.

  • +2

Received cashback! Insert worked in July.

  • Does anyone know a way to buy things online using a Hiver debit card number and get cashback without having the card in your posession? I haven't stored the number anywhere.

I have access to the app and also to internet banking.

    • You can find the card number details in the app. Card tab > click the light-pink "Pacman" circular icon at the top to reveal the details.

      • Thanks for the reply.

On my app it only shows the account number and BSB.

I got a reply from customer support who said there was no way of doing it. However I thought Ozbargain would be quicker to answer or know of a hidden way to find out.

        • I think others asked this above. I'm using Android, just double checked and can confirm it's definitely there. I guess you're using iOS.

          • @Bargain Fighter: Thanks for the quick response.

Nope using Android 12 with app version 1.1.2.

  • Sorry I am new to this.
I added my card to Google Wallet.
Then I went to Woolworths to buy gift cards in two transactions. First $500 then another $500.

    Google Wallet - error.
So I tapped my physical card for the first transaction. It went through.
When I tapped again for the 2nd transaction, it was error this time…
I inserted my card and chose VISA Debit.

My question is will I get cashback for the 2 transactions?

    • +1

So I tapped my physical card for the first transaction. It went through.

After this first tap, you exceeded your contactless (and also digital wallet) limit of $500 for the day.
You should definitely get cashback for this transaction as long as the MCC comes out correctly (which should be the case).

      • I read somewhere above we can do multiple taps a day, Max $500 each tap and max $1000 per day. Maybe I read it wrong.

So I will get cashback for both, good to hear that. Thanks mate.

        • multiple taps a day

Of course, as long as you don't exceed $500 in any given day.
IIRC, this is the combined contactless limit.

          max $1000 per day

I was told by a Hiver rep that it is possible to go over this limit by inserting my physical card, and selecting the credit / debit function. It hasn't worked for me.

    • +1

You will get cashback for all your eligible transactions, so yes doesn't matter physical cards, tap n pay or mobile wallet, it should all be fine :D

  • Can't sign up. Tried drivers licence and passport.
Keeps on giving an error message
    No response from support.
I don't know what to do? There's no phone number or web form.

  • +4

Just got my cashback today for July, I can confirm that inserting still worked, despite what the updated T&C says. And yes, they did capped the $250 correctly, already maxed mine. See you next year (if they still give :))

    • +1

      haha good job !

    • +1

Inserting as in c-out still works? Then I am obliged to apply for some more cards for all the family members.

  • Is instant provisioning working for you? It's not for me after reporting my card as lost…. It's been a few hours now as well.

    I've already asked Hiver.

  • Does anyone know when the webchat on the internet banking is open?

  • At Aldi if I insert my card and choose savings to avoid the surcharge will I still get the 5% cash back? Thanks

  • This comment section has made me really confused. So do we only get the cashback if we pay in person (paywave, inserting)? I wanted to buy some Woolies Gift Cards from this deal but I'm not sure if it's possible or not based on the comments here.

I also read there's a Visa $500 limit? Does that mean even if I could buy these Woolies Gift Cards online I can only buy $500 per day?

    • Not sure about the WWS online gift cards ,

      "WookieMonster 3 min agonew
Considering the Woolworths Group gift card portal has an MCC of 5411 (Grocery Stores, Supermarket), it means you should be eligible for 5% cashback through Hiver."

Visa 500 is for tap and pay only

You can use your available credit online, last time I paid for Telstra for 1100, they put a block on my card for a fraud prevention, so you might have to call them and let them know you are making a large purchase

    • I just got cashback from buying WW wish gift cards online last month.

  • Has anybody else not got their cashback for last month yet? 5 business days have passed in WA but I have not received mine yet. Their “live chat’ does not seem to be functioning.

    • Yes received it last week.

    • +1

      Mine hasnt showed up yet
*** update - just showed up

    • Yes received it.

  • Update - mine has just come in now.

  • +1

So did Hiver fail to implement their update to the rules for qualifying cash back transactions? I've been avoiding insertion since I learnt of the rule change and paying merchant surcharges just to be safe. What is the latest date in the month that someone has received cash back with an intentional EFTPOS "SAV" transaction? I did have a contactless transaction on July 17th that was least cost routed to EFTPOS SAV that seems to have qualified for a cashback of 1.7¢ but maybe that could qualify anyway.

  • I have just joined Hive a few days ago. It's been hit and miss depositing funds with some transactions taking over 24hr even with PayID. I get a text message when funds clear saying the amount is 'equal to or greater than my nominated amount'…can anyone tell me what that means, it feels like they are saying I'm exceeding some limit they impose?? (only transferring $500)

    • You can nominate amounts above which you will get an SMS notification. The default is $1, so anything above the 'nominated amount' of $1 you will get an SMS.

It's in the settings somewhere under Alerts & Notifications- you can change it to a higher amount so it doesn't get annoying.

Btw all my deposits have come instantly so no issues on my end. You need to make sure the bank you're sending from is also part of the Osko network- if they aren't then it's a problem with the sending bank, not Hiver.

      • Ahh thanks for the info, it has stopped me worrying. I transferred my funds from a big 4 bank so not sure what the issue was but it all came through eventually.

    • +1

Disappointing if they still haven't got on top of these intermittent failures.

  • Anyone know where was the Member Number that given to us after opened the account? Is it in the app or in the welcome mail/email?

    • +1

It's in an email from [email protected] , subject 'Welcome to Hiver'

    • It's also in the description of the first few transactions.

  • It's been a nightmare opening an account. Might just give up on this.

    • +2

That's a shame I have opened 3 and had no problems.

  • If I make BPay transaction in Hiver account to pay utility bill, is it eligible for 5% cash back? Anyone any experience?

BPay site says: "All businesses that offer BPAY accept payments from savings, cheque and debit card accounts. Many will also accept payments from credit card accounts."
But I cannot see how to specify BPay payment from which account (ie. saving or Debit card etc) in Hiver BPay payment option.

    • +1

It probably won't qualify. Although other payments besides the ones specified on the website qualified for cashback last month what they all had in common was they all had the qualifying merchant category codes. I suspect BPAY doesn't use MCCs which would be a necessary prerequisite. If you want to check that point for yourself make the minimum payment to the payee and see what information is in the expanded transaction detail (I love it!)

It is usually the type of the source account that determines how the BPAY payment is processed. The only exception I've ever personally seen is the option of allowing a payment from a credit card account to be made to a biller that did not accept credit card payments subject to the account holder agreeing that the payment be treated as a cash advance subject to fees/interest. No doubt that payment would have been processed by the BPAY scheme as a non credit card payment.

Perhaps I've misinterpreted your question. Just select which account you wish to BPAY from and make your payment. Whether you BPAY from your Hiver Everyday or Saver account it will be treated as a non credit card payment.

    • I contacted Hiver and they say BPay doesn't work. See if your utility has a debit/credit card payment page.

  • Has anyone had problems using OSKO to move money out? I transferred $1 to save payee using OSKO and it arrived in seconds, however, when I transferred $200 to the same account it returned the funds and stated to use standard transfer. This happened several times over a few days.

    • +1

It has happened to me a few times. Bank messaged them and they applogised and said: it happens sometimes….

  • Still can't open an account after trying like 55 times. Contacted the support team via chat and was told to check back in 2 weeks!
Something apparently is wrong with their system. SMH.

If you’re signing up just for the Cashback then might not be much point at this stage unless you have $5k to spend in a week or so

Well, looks like some quick spending over the next 2 weeks them throw the card out :/

    • Damn ! No point stay with them then. Hsbc, I am back

    • +3

I reckon Ozbargainers are bankrupting Hiver bank! Damn professionals hahahaha

    • +3

Wow. Lucky I joined and got the $250 through the Coles MasterCard deal a month or so back.

  • +1

Strangely I did not receive an email about 5% CB ending 7 September 2022.
So with a cap of $250 CB per year at 5%, I can technically spent $5000 in one go before 7 Sep to squeeze every bit of juice out of Hiver?

    • yes

    • -1

I think it only allows $500 per day so you could spend that over the next 10 days.

      • Thanks - that explains why my transactions got declined yesterday as they deem I was over limit.

        • +2

          Online transactions don't have a $500 limit/day

  • Did anyone really think this would be an ongoing promotion? 5% CB would more than wipe out any merchant fees Hiver would receive for using your card.

It would have been a marketing promo with a budget and/or set timeline to win more customers.

    • Wipe out the fees maybe, but it’s capped at $250 annual, so effectively they aren’t losing that much.

They’d probably still wind up on top with genuine customers using the account. As opposed to… thousands of ozbarbainers.

  • +7

Haven't received any email or notification about the change…a significant change like that should have been communicated to members in advance.

Guess I'll spend and dump the card after.

    • +7

Yes, Hiver's customer service is just terrible.

They are definitely violating the spirit of the banking code, to notify customers well in advance of making any changes to terms & conditions.

      Section 152:
"If we change our terms and conditions, we will tell you about the change as soon as reasonably possible."

      Section 154:
"Apart from changes to interest rates or changes to repayments, if we believe a change is unfavourable to you, then we will give you prior notice of at least 30 days.."

So far received $121 cashback from them. Off to Coles to buy $2500 Coles Myer gift card I guess 😂

  • +1

anyone think if you make purchases between 1/09/22 and 07/09/22 that any eligible purchases will get the cashback around early October?

  • +4

Well done Hiver, I'll be leaving your bank as soon as this cashback ends. What a (profanity).

    • -1

Lol exactly why i never bothered signing up. Bait & Switch.

      • +7

It was a limited time offer to get you to try them. I quite like their website and would like to continue but the interest rate is too low. We should be happy we got a great deal for a while.

        • +1

Website is pretty decent and app is as well but yeah I guess good things can only last so long.

I'm guessing most people didn't have the chance to hit the $250 yearly max cashback though.

      • It is an ethical bank which is B Corp certified.

  • Does anyone know if it's purchases made on or before 07 September count for Cashback, or transactions must be cleared / no longer pending by 07 September?

    • +3

Just got a reply from Hiver - need to be cleared by 7 Sep 5pm! How many days are required for txn to be cleared generally?

      • +2

Generally, they take 3 to 5 days to clear, but it can be up to 10 days. (From the Commbank website.)

I really hope Hiver don't pull some other trick like deliberately keeping all current transactions pending until after 7 Sep. Given their generally disgraceful behaviour, I wouldn't be too surprised if they do this.

        • +1

The transactions I made on Fri/Sat last week cleared Monday so doesn't look like they're stalling anything

        • Yep. My last $200-ish until I hit my $5000 is my water bill I set up a direct debit on, which will charge on the 5th. This could be interesting.

          • @jasonb: Unless you're in it for the thrills, you might consider making a $200-ish early payment directly to make sure the transaction settles in time for the cash back. I'd say if you made it say at least couple of days before the 5th the direct debit would probably be reduced by the same amount. My water authority doesn't charge a fee for card payments made via Paypal hopefully yours is the same.

      • +1

That will be pretty scummy if they only pay out on transactions settled by the 7th. They didn't mention that in their changes email. Is the settlement condition even documented? Fortunately, my transactions settled this morning but I'm sweating on whether they will pay out on the same transaction types as last month. I will be impressed if they pay out the cashback before the end of the month.

  • +1

Being the moron that I am, I have had a Hiver card since May but didn't start using it until a couple of weeks back after being reminded by someone mentioning here on OzBargain about the 5% cashback Hiver offer.

Pity it's soon to end, great offering that's obviously too good to last.

Have had a good experience using the Hiver app and every transfer into my Hiver account has shown up instantly as expected.

    • +1

Always have to act fast on offers never know how long they will last. My motto.

  • I just purchased $500 x 2 coles myer gift cards at coles by inserting the card witb visa debit option. Now i am worried. Does cashback only applies to tap and pay ?

    • +2

They were paying cashback on EFTPOS "SAV" transactions last month so you'll probably be fine. Anyway, no point in worrying.

    • +1

This is from a conversation I had with them on 11.8

… if you insert the card and select savings the cashback will likely not be applied. However if you insert the card and select 'Credit' instead, the cashback will likely be applied as it is routed through the Visa network.

If you have a problem sent me a PM and I will give you a SC of this.

      • There were 3 options at coles when i inserted card

        1. Visa Debit - which I selected
        2. Savings
        3. Current or checking
        • Yes for me too. I assume that 1. is the credit option.

  • Does Kmart work for cash back?

      • Thank you

        • +5

Buy a Coles Group and Myer Gift Card at Coles first and spend that at Kmart.

          • @Stingo: I was going to buy the gift cards that were on sale at Kmart. All good.

  • Will cashback be earned if I pay my local council rates :)?

    • +1

It will probably go through as government service (not eligible), but pay $1 towards it as a test and check once it settles.

      Also see here.

    • +1

Probably not. Local councils typically don't use one of the qualifying MCC codes. You probably have enough time to make a test payment to check and remaining payment and still have those settled before the final day of cashback.

    • +1

You can do a workaround by buying Mastercard or Visa gift cards, then using that gift cards to pay the local council rates. However, the activation fee will eat up the profit from the cash back a lot.

  • So for Coles — we have yobuse google pay?

    cant insert then choose visa?

    • I paid with tap and pay, using my physical card, at Coles over the last couple of days, and the transaction is shown as VISA and Grocery Stores & Supermarkets, so likely eligible for cashback.

This is in greater Sydney, so I can't guarantee that other stores in other states won't show EFTPOS if you try to do tap and pay.

      • +1

thanks! I just read term condition — it seems inserting card can work as well as long as we choose visa debit!

        • I can confirm, it did work for July that way (I got my cashback no issue by inserting), not sure now. If it's only up to $500, still better to tap to be sure

        • @baron33: did you read the update to their terms and conditions? However, unless their systems have changed since last month's cashback then selecting either "CR" - Visa debit or "SAV" (and "CHQ" if it works at all) should work equally well for cashback. You can see there was multiple confirmation of cashback from Aldi purchases after selecting "SAV" in July in the Where? thread. The only way to know for sure whether anything happened since then is to wait for the next cashbacks. If you want something like a guarantee then according to the terms posted then a Visa contactless transaction is required at EFTPOS terminals. If you know that a store would use "least cost routing" (does any Coles do that?) then the only to ensure you comply with the fine print is to use contactless with one of the supported mobile wallets with the card set to Visa if the wallet offers the choice (Apple Pay does, Google doesn't.)
