  • does coles/Woolworths sell PayPal gift cards, or is it mainly eBay, Amazon Jbhifi when it comes to gift cards

    • I’ve never seen PayPal gift cards being sold in Australia, and a cursory Google search does not show any evidence of them existing in Australia.

Coles and Woolworths sell three types of gift cards:

      • Gift cards that can be redeemed at one or a small number of specific stores (e.g. eBay, Amazon AU, JB Hi-Fi).

      • Prepaid gift cards that can only be redeemed at a specific category of businesses (e.g. The Restaurant Card in this deal).

      • Prepaid gift cards that are not limited to a specific category of businesses (e.g. Coles Gift Mastercard, The Perfect EFTPOS gift card, Vanilla Visa gift card). These gift cards operate on the EFTPOS, Mastercard or Visa network.

      • for previous flybuys gc online redemption deal , the card came unactivated

do you know how long we have to activate it ?

it only says card expires 3yrs after activation

  • so 1000 points ~ $5, making this ~10% off in grocery credits?

    • +3

Yep, you’ll get ~10% of the gift card’s value returned to you in the form of Flybuys points, assuming:

      • You are only purchasing the $50 denomination, not any higher denomination (where applicable), and

      • You opt to redeem your Flybuys points for:

      • An instant $10 discount at Coles (available to Coles Financial Services customers only),

Keep in mind that this deal is for 1,000 bonus Flybuys points, so you’ll still earn 1x standard point per $1 you spend on the gift cards in this deal (and for that matter, any third-party gift cards you purchase at Coles). For example, if you purchase a $50 Netflix gift card through this deal, you’ll earn 50 standard Flybuys points and 1,000 bonus Flybuys points.

      • +1

Thanks for the info, I didn't realise you can earn standard flybuy points with GC. Look like no Amazon with those cards

        • +1

Keep in mind that you only earn standard Flybuys points on third-party gift cards at Coles.

Third-party gift cards (at Coles) are any gift cards that are not issued by Coles Group. I’ve published a list of all the gift cards issued by Coles Group here, and purchasing any of these gift cards at Coles will earn zero Flybuys points.

  • Restaurant gift card, what places accept this? Any restaurants like mcas, kfc, Thai restaurant , Westfield food courts? Coffee club?

    • +2

It is redeemable at any business that:

      • Has the merchant category code of Eating Places and Restaurants (5812) or Bars, Cocktail Lounges, Discotheques, Nightclubs and Taverns–Drinking Places (Alcoholic Beverages) (5813), and

      • Accepts EFTPOS gift cards.

Apparently, these gift cards cannot be used at Fast Food Restaurants (5814), so it seems McDonalds, KFC and other fast-food outlets, but it is always worth a shot…

The old TCN webpage for this gift card has a restaurant directory, but I have no idea how accurate this directory is, because I cannot get the directory to work!

(You can probably tell I never ever use these kinds of gift cards, because it would be a nightmare to use up any small remaining balance.)

The good thing is that these Restaurant gift cards operate on the EFTPOS (Savings) network, so you'll avoid the Visa/Mastercard/AMEX surcharge at some restaurants.

      • +1

You are right about the small balances , that would be annoying and probably won’t be able to use up the balances at these restaurants. It’s also risky that I might be stuck with this card if I can’t find places to use it

      • +2

These cards currently work at fast food restaurants for me when using it through Google Pay. However it did stop for many months some time ago, so I would not count on it.

      • +1

I use this at Macca’s regularly. Used it tonight. Have only done it over the counter. Haven’t figured out if I can add it to my apple wallet and then use Apple Pay yet. That would be handy.

          • @WookieMonster: I tried the TCN app. It wouldn’t verify my mobile number to log in today. Have sent them an email and got the standard we are busy reply. Will see if I hear back tomorrow. Is that where I convert it or is there another way?

            • @HereToSave: Unfortunately, I don't think there is any other way!

              • @WookieMonster: I will wait and try it when I can get in and let you know. I’d like to combine it with the 20% off offer in the app.

                • @HereToSave: Can you DM me if you get a chance?

                • @HereToSave: Where is the 20% offer, looking through the TCN app I can't find anything related to offers. Thanks

                  • @rabbit71: Sorry I want the TCN app so I can get my card on my wallet and hopefully use it in the My Macca’s App which has a 20% offer.

                    • @HereToSave: I do the same. In the TCN app you can copy the new card number and pin to the clipboard then the Maccas app. Good luck

        • I had $0.42 left on a Restaurant card to tried to use it in split payment at the Maccas serviced counter as there are no option to do split payment at self service machines. Put through an order for a soft serve which is $0.75, and I asked to put through $0.40 through card and rest on coin. The guy tried a couple of times but the card terminal kept trying to charge $0.75. He called someone over and she said it has to be $0.50 minimum… so I paid 50c coin and $0.25 on the Restaurant card. Will be chucking out the $0.17 left on it as I cbb any further to use the tiny bit of leftover.

How do I remove this Restaurant card from my TCN app?

          • +1

@Alinnia: I got told you have to do cash first then card. So you need to do the math for what’s left. Surely it should be flagged by some agency as a bad practice.

          • @Alinnia: I can't find the member's comment but recall reading someone said they contacted TCN and they're working to add the feature to be able to remove cards from the app.

Is it $0.50 minimum on cash? As I vaguely remember splitting a $1 transaction to $0.15 on the Restaurant GC, $0.85 cash.

            • @Craze: Yes, I read in another post that TCN is adding the ability to delete cards in the future from the app. Looking forward to that, as I got a few I want to delete.

Based on what HereToSave said, I think the trick is you need to provide the exact cash needed for the transaction to do cash+card payment. So if I wanted to buy a soft serve for 75c, I should have given them 35c and ask them to charge the rest on card i.e. used up 40c on the gift card and leaving 2c leftover.

  • Is there a link of the list of restaurants that accept the restaurant card?
I can’t seem to find it.

  • I think for the restaurant card the only way not to have small change is if u buy something from restaurants worth $10 Eg lunch specials .

  • Some of those offers are continued by Woolworths for another week if you've missed those one by Coles for this week.
Including Ultimate Her/Beauty & Spa and Netflix cards.
