Crazy Johns $45 value plan includes $550 worth of calls and 1.5gb of data.
Their catalogue says this has been discounted ed from $55 p/m. Total cost over the deal is $1,080 minus the gift card.
Love to hear thoughts on this deal.

2 different deals so you can't compare it like that one is for 1yr the other for 2
but i've always thought shorter contracts are better. Maybe i'm the weird one.
It is better, but for only 200 you get an extra year of service with $550 worth of calls and 1.5gb of data. Thats ~$16/month. For those who wants a 2 year service the crazy john's deal would be better.
Not everyone needs a new phone every year :P
crazy john's using voda net as well,
so 200 a year is not a very good deal,
No Contract —> Phone outright for about $650 (mobicity or allphones)
Does it mean its better? No. Firstly, id have to have 650 lying around and since most people use their phone for more than a year and i would have to pay for credit on top. This would work out cheapest if i went with TPG or liveconnected (~900-1000 over 2 years for similar credit). BUT not everyone will.
1 Year Contract —> The voda deal for 1 year credit and phone for $814.
Id go the voda deal if i couldnt afford outright $650, or wanted voda network (for some odd reason). But I would have to jump onto tpg/live connected (optus network) for the second year to have it cost ~900-1000 over the 2 years.
2 Year Contact —> The crazy johns deal for 2 years credit and phone for $1080.
Id choose crazy johns if i was happy with the credit, the voda network, and could not afford the 59+15/month of the voda deal or $650 outright.
Shorter contracts DOES NOT mean its better for everyone, it depends on how much money you have lying around.
Seriously ozbargain lurkers sometimes neg for no good reason. You do understand that people have different preferences right?
Thanks Venu for the good points.
I don't have $650 lying around, however I do have a credit card or 4. If I was to buy it outright and go on the 11 Tribe plan then at 13% interest over 2 years it works out to $1083 all up, the difference being I am not locked into a contract.
So all up I think I would probably rather buying it outright, problem is it's a lot easier to get a $45 a month charge past the "financial review board" than a $650 hit in one go :)
One thing I have noticed is that the Crazy John's specifications page list the memory at 16gb but it's listed on the Vodafone site at 32gb. Not sure if there are any other differences in these models.
does anyone have a link, I cannot seem to find this deal on Vodafones website.
EDIT: Opps found it, there is a 12 month button, I was on the 24month tab.
Shorter contracts are obviously better.
very average deal at best
Where does one get a HTC One X for cheaper than this?
Total of this minus visa card is $1030.
Buy it outright for $600.
Stick it on liveconnected $10.99 plan (1.5gb, $500 talk and text) $263.76 over 24 months.
Total: $863.76
Saving of $166.24 plus your not locked into a contract.
i agree that the live connect plan is better but where do they sell this phone for $600?
i am gonna neg this because this deal is for a 16GB phone unless it is a typo from crazy phone
dwi and expansys. Only looked at 4 sites, I think expansys is $598 and dwi is $601.
You're basing that on the customer having $600 lying around, and even if they did they might have better use for the money than purchasing a phone outright.
It all depends on that particular person's circumstances.
There is also the issue of customer service. Any probs with the phone or service they just walk into a CJ's store rather than trying to deal with Live Connected, DWI, ShoppingSquare, etc (nightmares anyone?).
BTW Expansys only have 3 month warranty. Pay an extra $33 for extended warranty I believe. Also there is delivery fee.
Who says they are going to be able to afford $45 a month in 2 years time?
That's why I said:
It all depends on that particular person's circumstances.
Signing up for a 2-year contract means a person is financially stable enough to still expect to be able to make payments in 1-2 years time (telcos also do credit checks).
If they're not, then they certainly shouldn't be signing up for a 2-year contract, let alone splashing out on a $600 phone. Rather, they should get a $50 LG Optimus Spirit from Coles from the previous OzB deal.
Where can you get a local stock One X for $600? Try more like $660-700.
In any case if the saving is only $100 odd I'd rather spend my money on something else now and then pay for the phone monthly. Also then as mentioned you get a 2 year warranty through the Telco and don't have to deal with potentially troublesome grey importers only offering a 12 month warranty at best.
In any case negging a good price for a phone and plan simply because you can go for it outright (requiring you to pay the $600+ upfront) and go on a yum cha telco's plan just doesn't really cut it…
it was $600 delivered at shoppingsquare a few weeks ago. it should start dropping again now the GS3 is announced.
Wishing I held onto my contract a little longer with 3 before I jumped to the S2 and CJ…would have snapped with up in a heartbeat
Shoppingsquare had this phone for $600 delivered, go to liveconnected $11 plan and you also get 1.5gb data, it only ends up being $864 after 24months and you are not locked into a contract.
Based on the $600 price for the phone + TPG has the same credit and data ($550, 1.5GB), at a total of $1032, over 2 years, that works out to be $40.83 p/month, based on the $18 p/m plan with the $20 sim fee + TPG customer discount, based on a $650 purchase price for the HTC One X, it works out to be $42.92 p/m, so in regards to that, Crazy johns' price offering is quite decent but you're on vodafail for a $2.10 p/m premium vs tpg's network (optus?)
but in case we sign up for a 12 month contract with Voda,is it possible to sign another one prior 3 months of the ending of the contact? (like the one we usually get with 24month contract). If so, we can save more?
i doubt it, but in any case, i wouldn't count on it.
I'm currently in the market for an outright high end phone. past experience tells me to wait until june/july to allow the prices of newly announced phones to stabilize.
No, I was on a 12 month plan and they wouldn't re-sign me until my contract actually expired.
I got mine on voda for $29 +$5 handset for 24 month…..
If u want more call credit…of coz. But if not …. get voda to beat my deal should be possible.
$29+5 handset over 24 months sounds like a very good deal!
How do you get this deal? in the store or by phone? I want to upgrade my 3 next month.
vodafone ($59 + $15) * (12months - 1free month) = $814
you get $750 calls + 1.5GBs
better?
