Hi all,

First post so please be gentle. Noticed a solid price reduction too good not to share.

Use code:
PAPP15 - $772.65 for those without Ebay Plus

Other sellers seem to have reduced their pricing to similar amount but this is the cheapest I could find.

Excellent price for an excellent CPU.
If I didn't already have 3950x, would have bought it using this offer/price.

  • +2

farrrrrrr out. cant wait for zen 4 to drop to see what this would drop to then pick one up on the cheapskies

    • I planned to do this, but if you look at 3950x prices relative to 5950x, there doesn't seem to be the price drop despite the 3950x being now quite a bit older than 5950x, though the new architecture slot might may make things different and if you can wait then unlikely to be a loss.

yeah i completely share that sentiment. im sitting on a 3900x atm with an x570 dark hero and its already a very competent system. I wouldnt be an early adaptor of AM5/zen4, so grabbing 5950x at its lowest point would prob get me the most value from my current setup. These incremental price drops are so damn tempting though

        • Actually no, if your 3900x is not slowing down your work flow, you don't need to get the 5950x. You will still be losing money if you upgrade and not need it.

    • It will depend on stock. I see that they release it carefully and you might not find this.

  • +1

    That's nuts!

  • +2

    I have a 5900x and a 3700x, I reaaaally don't need this but very tempted.

Same price here (Futu = gg.tech) and they're advertising a free 32GB USB flash drive in listing images.

Nice one OP. Any deals on fuel pumps?

  • Damn my ozbargain windows are going to open real qiuck.

  • +6

    FYI, slightly cheaper at Scorptec
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/265156719701
$764.52 without plus vs. $772.52 here

  • I'm curious to see how far the price would drop. It's such a good discount from its MSRP

  • My god this is making me so tempted to purchase…
I need to upgrade my 8700k, and am looking at purchasing this with an MSI MEG Motherboard, but I feel that I should just wait for the new socket, BUT then again my god that price is good

Should I take the risk and wait? Urghhhh

    • +3

the 8700K is still a very capable CPU for 'Most' generalist applications including gaming. I wouldnt be swapping a whole system to jump on a socket thats soon to be superseded.

      • +2

Yep definitely wait on next gen for a full upgrade with DDR5 etc.

      • +1

Agreed, the 8700K is a solid CPU, and it can get a decent performance boost if you tune the ram. Unless you need the extra grunt today or there's a stability issue you can't overcome with a windows reinstall then waiting a little longer for zen 4 and ddr5 would be a good move, though certainly more expensive.

My problem is that I multitask heavily. I stream at the same time as gaming, while also utilising a Logitech StreamCam (which in itself has a high throughput of data), my CPU sits at 100% constantly while streaming games even though I am using NVENC to drop that extra load.

It seems there is just not enough horsepower there to do it all at once, this results in super stuttery gameplay for me even though my GPU sits happily at ~60% usage in most games (1080Ti).

Although I will give it props when I'm not streaming it is a great CPU, but as I mentioned before, it just can't seem to keep up with my multi-tasking.

After having a think about it, upgrading to the very next gen will be more expensive for me anyway, as I will need new RAM (and want to stay away from DDR5 until it's at least 2 gens of CPU's old) with the added possibility of stock shortages for months and higher prices from almost guaranteed scalping. This gives me the ability now to save for the 40 Series Nvidia Cards, which I think will be more beneficial to the hardware I am purchasing now.

I already have great DDR4 RAM and PSU, I only need MB and CPU swapped out for, all of which can be sold in the future when I upgrade again in a few years time.

          • @CtrlAltSpoods: Yeh in that case, go for it. It's not like this will perform worse when the new stuff comes out.

            • +1

@AEKaBeer: I did it, this CPU paired with the MEG X570S Ace Max will hopefully work an absolute treat (also managed to snag this MB for $450 with eBay plus deals)

              • @CtrlAltSpoods: Wtf did not know mobos got that expensive, seems like a rip-off

                • @s1Lence: They can get up to $1000+ but you get what you pay for really just don't look for things you don't need. (I was after a lot of USB ports and the better AMD Chipset)

This one in particular is usually around these prices: https://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=MSI+MEG+X570S+…
So was a nice find to compliment the CPU.

                  • @CtrlAltSpoods: seems like unless you want to OC or have needs besides a few extra usb ports that is a waste of money, there are mobos for <$300 that will suit your needs
i guess you aren't trying to look for the most cost-effective option though so it doesn't matter

                    • @s1Lence: Correct, as I use this PC every day for work AND gaming, price can be a bit more flexible and I'll go for better parts (even slightly overkill even as I just want it to work and work quickly all the time) but I still keep an eye open to make sure I'm buying those parts for the lowest price available currently.

I've already made the mistake in the past of going for a mid-range board and having to deal with some of its shortcomings , so now avoiding repeating those mistakes I've made in the past again.

    5900X $549.46 - PAPR17

  • Where can I pick up a new 3200g cheap?

  • Great CPU! Make sure you cool it appropriately. 🔥

  • I paid $750 during peak Corona scalp for my 5800x. Damn this is a good price, but if you have a system now you're probably better off waiting for next gen at this rate.

  • For gaming, I guess no significant advantage over a 5600X so not worth upgrading?

    • +5

Absolutley not worth upgrading if youre already on a 5600x

Steve from HWUB's article on this:

      https://www.techspot.com/review/2197-zen-3-cpu-gpu-scaling-b… article on this

      • Thanks saved me at least $549. Super tempting but a 5600X will work until 13th Gen & Ryzen 7000

        • But you might want to edit your famous gaming videos.

    • Unless you're gaming with a nv 20/30 70/80, no difference even from a 3600X

      • Thanks. I am currently using a 2080 and looking to upgrade to a 3080 12GB, price permitting, of course, I'd rather spend money on the GPU in place of marginal upgrade/performance on the CPU end.

  • very tempting what should i do?? I own 3950X & Strix 3090 work for a local media company so i am dealing with premier pro making and rendering 4k videos also photoshop etc. is it worth? please reply any of you wonderful tech people. thanks.

    • I would say for a 3950X to 5950x, the performance difference is probs not worth it for this price, but maybe look at options once AMD/INTEL next gen is out (but will need to upgrade the Mobo/Ram with it)

That being said, I did buy it, but am upgrading from a 3700x.

    • +1

3950x is amazing already. I would say hold out for Zen4 coming later this year and then decide if you need to upgrade.

  • +1

What sort of AIO will be needed to cool this beast? I just got a Arctic 360mm AIO.

    • +2

5950x can't be kept cool with a good air cooler, such as a D15. So an Arctic 360 AIO will easily keep temps under control.
