    • +2

Yeah when it comes down to $1k I'm jumping on any brand

      • Pretty sure there was a 3080 for less than 1k not long ago. I'm in the same train. less than 1k I'm on.

        • Nope don't think so. Only 3070ti has dipped below 1k

          • +1

@maverickjohn: true that. closest was 1089. thought I saw one for 998.

        • lol yeah nah

    • -2

comon 4060 for similar performance for only $600

      • +1

any idea re lotto numbers for next week??

        • Colonel Sandurz: One, two, three, four, five.

        • 30 19 12 11 4 15 35 7

          • @ttacx: If im right, you'd better buy me a sandwich

  • I wonder why only the Galax brand GPUs on sale at BPC Tech? Special deal between them and Galax?
The other brands on BPC Tech have not seen as frequent discount as Galax.

    • Yeah I’m with you there, prefer any other brand than Galax to be honest

      • Nothing wrong with Galax. Inno3D and Colorful on the other hand. Bleh

    • yes most likely, many retailers have special relationships with particular importer/distributers or directly with the factory in some cases,

    • Colourful is on sale as well :)

    • I would consider a below average brand (ala gainwood, colorful, inno3d) … they only offer 1 year warranty, and my customer experience (dead GTX1070 during warranty) was very poor.

  • +1

    Make it $1200, come on!!!

  • around 1K and i will buy it instantly

    • +34

Ok, thanks for letting us know.

    gpu crashing hard??

    • a lot slower than a few weeks ago. But prices will hopefully continue going down steadily.

Galax is a cheaper brand with less effective cooling and engineering compared with the high end 3080 cards. It runs hotter and therefore downclocks more as a result, in comparison with the high end models. This model is also longer and wider than most so check its dimensions as you'll need a large case. While this is a good price for a 3080 12GB you get what you pay for.

    • Guess all the people with the HOF preimums should prob just take it as they paid too much

    • +13

According to the reviews, it's a very good card with no cooling problems. They also have a good track record.

They're actually surprisingly premium feeling in person, too.

    • +13

Unless you have owned a Galax card and experienced what you described, I wouldn't make sweeping statements like that.

For example, many shops seem to be asking a premium for EVGA 3080's and from the posts I've seen, they put EVGA as one of the Tier 1 AIBs. I have one and it is one of the worst in terms of cooling. I'd rather a Galax SG 3080 than an EVGA XC3 Ultra 3080 (which I currently have).

      • +1

EVGA premiums I think is because of the worldwide warranty from memory

        • +1

Both are similar. You can go back to your place of purchase, or you can e-mail Galax/EVGA directly at their TW warranty support team.

      • I have a Galax RTX2080 1-Click OC and I run it stock. Idling temp ~63.9C, full load on COD MW 2019 I've seen ~90C.

All stock never overclocked, case side panel is open as I fear overheating.

      • +1

I had a Galax 1660 super EX, IMO very solid cooler and premium build quality

      • Have bought 2 Galax cards in the past (although not this particular model) and both times this was exactly my experience, so I won't be buying any more in future. The cards works fine, but the entry Galax models (I'm not talking about their HOF premium models) are cheaper as they run hotter than the more expensive brands. The fact is that the hotter a cards runs the more it needs to downclock itself (i.e. slow itself down - sometimes significantly), which typically only happens when running at maximum load for longer periods. The more expensive brands can cool better resulting in less need for the chip to downclock itself dramatically. But this card is still excellent performance at a good price. Just not for me.

      • EVGA are Tier 1, generally their designs are decent but they have some warranty policies that most others don't - e.g. transferable + international warranty, plus in the US they have step up programs to allow people to trade in and upgrade.

    • This guy went to the trouble to test and rank 55 RTX 3080 cards and rated the Galax SG as third last.

      https://youtu.be/q_VC_00wcMU?t=1675

My point simply being that the card does the job but is not a front runner in the field, so therefore is cheaper.

    • My Galax GTX1070 EX failed in a puff of smoke during warranty, and my Galax GTX1070Ti EX-SNPR failed with random graphic glitches. I wouldn't touch Galax with a long pole. Galax customer service was useless, and I only got a resolution thanks to purchasing at PLE who were great.

    • Yeah no.

  • drop this to 999 and you ahve a deal :D

  • Hopefully, we can see some $1000 deals for 3080 next week.

    • +1

I hope so..! anything makes you think next week or just speculation?

      • +1

        just my speculation, lol.

  • Is there much difference between 3080 10g, 3080 12g and 3080ti ?

      • thank you

      for those who can't be bothered watching videos, according to the Hardware Unboxed 12 current AAA game benchmarks;

      1440p
      3080 10G - 146 FPS
      3080 12G - 153 FPS
      3080 Ti - 158 FPS
      3090 - 163 FPS
      3090 Ti - 171 FPS

      4k
      3080 10G - 86 FPS
      3080 12G - 91 FPS
      3080 Ti - 95 FPS
      3090 - 98 FPS
      3090 Ti - 108 FPS

      • Hmmm, the video linked showed a pretty decent jump for the 3080ti over both 3080 models, particularly at 4k.

  • Ooof got my 3070 for that price back in the day.

for those interested, idle temp is about 32 degree's as is without overclocking/undervolting, in a case with pretty decent airflow (lian li lancool ii mesh with 5 intakes and 2 exhaust fans). Under full load (MS Flight Sim on high end, around 60 fps) it sits on around 69 degrees and the fans spin around 1600 RPM and using about 340w. This is without attaching the optional top fan on the GPU (because it won't fit on my mobo because of the RAM). Also comes with a 3 year warranty. Pretty happy with the card so far.

    • +1

Average airflow in my case (2 intakes and 1 exhaust) and with the optional fan attached I'm getting 37 to 40 at idle and around 74 degrees at load with the fan at around 55%

  • -2

    Cringe card

  • Love Galax and Zotac, but having paid 998 for my Galax 2080 super I'm inclined to wait for more reducton or the 40xx series to replace my other aged GTX980. Still, nice to see price getting more affordable.

    • Yeah if you're on a 2080 Super don't bother till 4xxx.

  • I'm the chump who paid $1999 for the Gainward card

  • Received it today from the 1249 deal and have tested it. Runs everything butter smooth, and is cool and quiet - as expected thanks to 4 fans. It is a very large card and I had to angle grind the heatsink metal brackets surrounding 2 of my ram modules for it to fit in my main PCIe slot.
