On sale is this really good wearable rechargeable headlamp. It has a flexible COB LED strip going across the front with an XPE light on the side. Each light can be toggled on or off with different brightness levels and there's a sensor on the side that when turned on allows you to turn the lights on/off with a gesture.

Inside is a 1200mAh battery lasting 3-8 hours, USB-C port for charging, 350 lumens, 10W power and IPX4 water resistance. There's multiple bundles available on the listing with additional accessories.

I currently use this headlamp when exploring underground and it produces a good amount of light in the darkness.

    You forgot to include GST/Tax.

Nah wasn't tax. I forgot to uncheck my AliExpress coins discount. US$12.07 is the correct USD amount now :)

      Buy 2 /s

I do want to get another with a longer headband to wear around my torso just for that extra bit of light.

Have one of these and it's fantastic. The light is nice and diffused. Great for doing odd jobs in tight spaces where you need more light.

  • What's normal price on these?

  • Would this be good for running around suburban streets at night? Too bright perhaps? Is there a better option?
I'm mainly thinking about seeing the path so I don't trip over, and being visible enough to not get run over.

    • Who are you running from?

        Fatness.

Edit: it looks like it's rubber, so unless you wear it on top of a cap it might get too sweaty under there.

if you want something cheap those $5 ones from BCF do the trick. Energizer is a lot better but still AA or AAA based.
I switched up to a Nitecore nu32 for the ability to go bright for trail runs after nearly running onto a brownsnake so that might be worth baring in mind for the future-also li-ion

          • @OhtheHughmanity: I haven't tried it, but I would have thought the 3xAAA ones would be too heavy and flop around as you run.

            • @Thrifty McGifty: I ran in the $5 3xAAA ones for years. So far my neck aint broke. They flopped bit but its not too bad. I still use them when i havent charge my nitecore

You can't outrun the fat, you eat less and that takes care of it. Unless you plan on running for 3 hours a day..

          • @philmarcracken: You cant outrun a bad diet, no but running to supplement thermogenic everyday processes has been found to be very effective particularly past 20mins. 3hrs is enough to burn a days worth of calories alone. Combine this with thermogenesis (calories to live and breathe etc) and you're looking at 4000 or so: too much to burn a day healthily. When Ive run 3hrs+ ive consumed a stupid amount of sugar and protein to get me through.
This ignores the poorly understood metabolic effect too-you might continue to burn more fat for a time afterward.
Your argument is that overweight people shouldn't exercise and just focus on eating?
Also without knowing circumstances its risky to recommend eating less. Some people eat very little and gain weight but less is still a potential health risk for them. Drs and qualified nutritionists are better placed to recommend diets and exercise.

            • @OhtheHughmanity: A nutritionist isn't a qualified position - a dietician is. And I work with them in hospitals. You don't know what you're talking about. I prescribe kcal reductions constantly - and no, fasting long term isn't unhealthy. Quite the opposite, it activates autophagy which you've likely never bothered to look up.

              • @philmarcracken: yeah i'm really not sure we are disagreeing on much here. My problem is advice which sounds like "don't bother running". As you are a runner too, I found that a bit strange. Running assists in calorie burning and every bit helps. you don't have to run for three hours to burn a couple of hundred calories.
As far as fasting goes-I have no argument. It's an evolving science but I never said it didn't work. What I said was that not everyone should be given blanket medical advice online. Someone who is anaemic for example shouldn't just reduce all food. Type 1 diabetics are also advised not to intermittent fast without speaking to their endo due to DKA risk. Doesn't mean they cant do it but it does mean a specialist should be involved.

I'll concede the dietician point-I did say "qualified nutritionists" and all dieticians are accredited nutritionists but I could have simplified it by just saying that in the first place. Poor use of words on my part.

  • This does look like the halo in Minority Report….just a bit

  • The LED strip on these gets hot after a short time.
