  • Good unit, good price.

  • Nice price for a professional long range meter.

  • Tool fits into any shirt pocket

    Really. That's a bold claim.

An ALTERNATIVE way to solve the problem of getting a good "Laser Distance Measure"

    1. Search eBay for "Laser Distance Measure"

    2. Scan their list of products in that class, eg, presently:

. from: unbranded cheapie for US$ 13 (sic) incl shipping

. to: a "Bosch DLE 40" (said to have a 40 metre range) for US$ 118 incl shipping

3a. Decide if you really -want- to be work with a -higher- power laser tool (think: Eye Safety)

3b. Decide if you need to measure many distances -over- 40 meter (what may require the DLE 70)

    4a. If you don't -need- a "…DLE 70" get the slightly cheaper "…DLE 40" & SAVE a bit (& -maybe- an eye or two, someday :-)

4b. If your budget would be better served by buying a -lower- (if not low) end product,
pick a range of lower-cost items, totaling in price to, say, -half- the shipping-inclucive price of a "…DLE 70" (ie, see how many devices you can buy for under $150, in total)

    1. Buy & test those units.

    2. Pick & keep the one that measures most accurately, in all sorts of light/shade/dark conditions

    3. Sell the others (eg, with your test results about each)

    4. Post details of the one(s), that tested -best- in your measurement tests, here in an OzB Forum

Q.E.D. in a way that could help others us save $$$ later (not to mention an eye…?)

"Friends help Friends find / buy value"

    • and you wonder if the 'unbranded cheapie' lasers are made under proper regulations that wouldn't cause health issues? If the bosch makes you go blind, you MAY (IANAL) have grounds to ligate, but who are you gonna sue if it's a nobrand cheapie off ebay?

    • IVI. Your suggestion would be good if you had nothing better to do with your life.

Why don't you do as you suggested and buy as many devices as you can for under under $150 ,
test them all in all sorts of conditions, then sell them all with your test results about each, then come back here and report your findings. After all, "Friends help Friends find/ buy value" ; )

    • Higher-power laser tool? Their top-of-the-line GLM250VF with a 250 meter range only uses a max 1mW laser diode (hence Class 2), the same as a standard laser pointer.

    • I'll take your post under consideration. But as your main point in your post is to reduce the range to reduce the price, my bro and uncle are in construction business and yes we definitely need more than 40m.

    • Those Hilti measurers are well-known good products, but in a triple price.

That's equivalent to the DLE40. This is the DLE70, almost twice the range.

      • I had a quick look at the specs of rht DLR130 and the "130" in that case refers to the range in feet (for the overseas market) which equates to just under 40m. Whereas the "70" in the DLE refers to the range in metres. Also the little spirit level that is included in the DLE70 is invaluable (more so over longer distances).

FYI, this is definitely NOT a laser measure. It is ultrasonic. Very different beast.

You know those cheap scissors on ebay with a laser? They do not cut with the laser beam either :-)

    • +2

No, this is DEFINITELY a laser measure. Those $15-40 ones are ultrasonic.
I have the DLE50 and it's fantastic. For a second I had the urge to upgrade to the DLE70 but realized I rarely need to measure such distances… although it's always nice to have! Hmm..

    • How do you say this isn't laser? DLE70 definitely laser.
I tried using ultrasonic before, too unstable, and won't ever use it again. I'd rather use measuring tapes or a piece of thread or cord.

One thing is a DEFINITE… that you have absolutely NO idea what you are talking about.

Mea culpa :( Looked at wrong thing. Too late to edit.

Thanks, perfect for railway job, where accessing the live corridor is always issue, and risk of messing up rail signals with metal tapes.

Errrmmm - Every one of the 100's of thousands of people on Ozstock's mailing list was emailed this deal yesterday… so your "stumbling skills" are pretty poor LOL

The deal is good, but I reckon the OP's intro is a bit lame :-)
