Found this and figured I'd let you guys know about it. Was looking for CF cards and happened across this, US $94.69+6.22 = $100.91. These cards retail usually around ~$150-200, and the MemoryCity deal that came up today has them for $119.95. Also cheaper than BH (which works out to be ~$125 or so)

Shipping is "AmazonGlobal Expedited Shipping (averages 8-16 business days)" and to go to AmazonGlobal Priority Shipping (averages 2-5 days) brings the total up to $125.18 (in which case you may as well go for the MemoryCity deal, figured for those that can wait it's a good deal).

Also have a look at the other cards Amazon has, most ship to australia too so have a look if you're after other CF/SD cards etc.

I was going to get a couple but I needed them this weekend for a photoshoot, just by the by, I took MemoryCity's pricing to JB and they price matched it for me at $115 - which is a good deal in itself.

Not at the lowest point, but still a very good price.

  • cf is too exansive compared to sd, but D800 only support dual cards of CF+SD (not sd+sd). so, this seems a good price.

    • Marketed speed for speed it's roughly similar in price to SD, maybe a bit more expensive, but in the end, CF is going to be faster.

      See: http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/camera_wb_multi_page.asp?ci…

      and: http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/camera_wb_multi_page.asp?ci…

Only the super expensive UHS1 SD cards come even close to midrange CF cards in terms of burst rate and throughput….

That being said, one of the reasons for me upgrading to the 5D3 over the 5D2 was so I could use all my SD cards and not have to buy CF cards… and then I succumbed to buying a CF card… sigh!

      • The upgrade to a 5D3 was so that you can use SD cards? uhmm.. okay.

I change my CF cards every year+ or so and rotate between the 6 I have with the 60MB/s the slowest and 32GB the smallest now. With the 5D3 i had to get SD cards instead as i never had a need for them. My 5D classic, 7D, 5D2, 5D3 all used CF cards so no biggie there.

I highly recommend transcend cards as well for the price point, never failed on me and is cheaper. My first transcend CF card was a 256MB from ages (maybe 14 years ago and it cost me about $140 if i recall correctly) and it's still working! I use a mixture of 2x lexar, 2x sandisk and 2x Transcend.

IMO pay the $15 extra for warranty sake.

        • Oh yea, just read what I said and that made no sense haha. I went from a 60D -> 5D3. As opposed to going from 60D -> 5D2, despite being cheaper, meant that I would have had to spent a few hundred dollars getting a stack of CF cards, where I already have a stack of SD cards :p

Agreed on the warranty comment, but I just thought i'd put it up because people love saving some $$$.

I should get some more CF cards, got a stack of 8, 16 and 32gb 30/45mb/s SD cards that should keep me happy tho…. i'll probably use the 32GB CF card as main storage and swap out the SD cards as redundancy as they fill up…. I will dump the cards way before I fill up 32gb :p

        • Interesting. Buy good cards and you shouldn't need to replace them for a while. I still use 4GB Extreme III and IV CF cards and they are going fine. Mine cop more read/write cycles than probably most users will ever approach (I shoot roughly 800GB of images per year). Currently use 8GB and 4GB Extreme 60mb/s Sandisk CF in my 1D3 and 4 bodies. Have a 16GB but don't use it that often.

    • Yes it is expensive but unfortunately onwers of higher end cameras like Nikon D3s have no other choice.

  • 400X ? Seriously? Are will still comparing speeds to the original CD readers from when Soundblaster ruled?
Why not compare it to a Commodore 64 tape drive?

    • Started back in the days when CF cards first came out…. 1x = 150kb/s, 400x = 60mb/s…. take a look at any of the Sandisk/Lexar cards, half the time they are advertised as 233x/400x/600x/1000x…. yes it's archaic but meh, what does it matter?

  • should i take advantage of D800's second card slot (cd) or stick with sd??

i agree, transcend actually is quite good. somehow, people are so fascinated about sandisk these days (i am becoming one of them, gradually)

    • Yea, I did for faster writes/longer bursts… And for data redundancy.

      Who said anything about transcend?

I would only touch lexar, Sandisk or patriot for cards IMO.

      • Patriot is a strict no no for me due to 2x bad experiences. Could have been a bad batch, but that was enough for me to warrant a lifetime ban.
