  • Does anyone know if this grinder can let me set ground size?

    • 25 Grind settings

        What about sea size?

    • Yes. But ours was never any good for getting a decent grind for espresso. Relegated to cold brew and plunger coffee preparation.

      • There is a somewhat simple hack for this grinder to get finer, espresso level grind sizes. Involves just taking off the burr and adding a couple of washer spacers to bring the conical burrs closer together

Had the same problem previously, but I contacted Sunbeam and they sent out some washers and instructions on how to fit to make it grind finer and was able to work for my coffee machine.

        • Sounds good. A pity that they didn't consider making the adjustment part of the regular manufacture!

Still, gets them 'useful' publicity by doing things half-arsed!

Doesn't do a bad job for producing bulk coarse grind coffee though.

  • Is the grind setting good enough for a machine like Bambino plus? I read many say the SG Pro is the perfect match with BB+ but this one is one third the price of SG Pro, it is very temping…..

    • +1

Unlikely. Honestly the grinder is the one thing you don't want to undervalue

    • +2

It'll be good enough for the BB+. Yes, grinder it's important but it's also relative. If needed, use the washer spacer adjustment described above to get finer grounds

    • I have the Bambino Plus. It comes with a dual layer basket and thus it is lot more forgiving on coffee grind. I would have purchased this had I been in your place.

      • Dual layer basket results in less flavour though.

“Good enough” is subjective, and depends entirely on what you are willing to accept…

If you really want to spend as little money as possible, and don’t care too much about the results, then yes it would probably be good enough. But for a lot of people, the SGP would definitely be a worthwhile upgrade. And to others, the SGP is not good enough, and they would want a Eureka or Niche or DF64 or something.

“Good enough” is something only you can answer, tbh! :)

FWIW, I’d suggest spending as much as you are willing to…so if you’re tossing up between the Sunbeam and the SGP for triple the price, go for the SGP! If you would consider increasing the budget to a Eureka grinder or something, then definitely do that! :)

Agreed, the smart grinder pro is the cheapest of the acceptable in my eyes. Of course, that's very subjective

        • the grind on the smart pro is pretty much the same as this, the smart pro just has more electronic junk on it which doesn't make it grind any better.

          • @oznik: From what I understand, this doesn't grind as fine as the smart grinder pro -

            • +1

@The Hobo: Well, the Sunbeam can be shimmed to grind finer (much like the older versions of the Smart Grinder Pros needed). But yes, Smart Grinder Pro has smaller adjustments, and is overall a much better grinder.

I have a SGP (no longer being used), and was previously in possession of an EM0440 - however never at the same time and not with the same gear (was years apart!). I think either would "do the job" as an entry level grinder, tbh…but I certainly would choose the SGP based on my experience (albeit, as mentioned, years apart, so not a direct and fair comparison). YMMV

            • @The Hobo: I have one, it will grind to Turkish and beyond.

Some earlier units needed a shim but that was like 15 years ago.

              • @oznik: Are you referring to EM0440 or SGP?

If you are refereeing to EM0440, the ones that we buy now is fine?

  • I have this grinder…. It does a pretty good job of grinding beans.

However, you may be able to get an even better grind, and tastier coffee, by spending another $600 or $900 on the latest trend. Lol

I had this for espresso at the start, did the washer mod so that it would grind finer, worked alright but I ended up getting a SGP 2 months later.
