The Dell Alienware AW2721D also brings us 240Hz for a notable kick in motion clarity from the previous 144Hz standard — plus DisplayHDR 600 support, as opposed to the mostly meaningless DisplayHDR 400 certification.

Unless that the curvature of your eye is such that the curved screen is a deal breaker, the Samsung 27" G7 is a much better performing panel at an even lower price.

    • I would have to respectfully disagree. The AW2721D is awesome. One of the best monitors out there.

Respectfully, which of these has the clearer image: https://www.rtings.com/monitor/tools/compare/samsung-odyssey…

Which has the better better contrast? The better black uniformity? The better input latency measurements, particularly if you want to run it at a lower refresh rate? The better text clarity? Which one has a BFI option? Which one can accept 4K input and downscale?

The only two things going against the G7 are the curvature, for those who have an eye curvature that makes it not ideal, and the gamma shift that occurs with VA on a viewing angle (hence the curve).

It is otherwise a superior monitor, at a superior price.

Yes, you've nit picked what stats are slightly superior to suit your narrative of the G7. At max refresh rate, the AW2721D trumps the G7. Why would anyone buy a monitor this expensive and not run it at its full refresh rate? That would be completely and utterly senseless. So who really cares about latency at anything lower than 240hz. But as you can see overall, rtings rates them pretty much the same. I prefer a non-curved screen anyway. Nonetheless, This is still a great deal for the AW2721D. A similar price to what I bought mine for about 5 months ago.

@Locky1598: Mate I'm not nitpicking, you've just been chanting 'IPS better' with your mates without understanding what any of the technology is or does. In fact, you've not even understood what I've written.

Take OLED panels out of it, and the G7 is using the fastest consumer panel in the world in terms of response time, while the Dell sits back in about 5th place by over a millisecond, which is a huge deal when you're up at 240Hz and a refresh interval of around 4.17 ms.

There is no currently accepted measurement or photographic evidence you can point to in order to prove your point.

  • Careful people its a great monitor but its also prone to random shutdowns or dying out of the blue.

Alienware really dropped the ball with this one which is odd because the last 240hz 1080p I had from them was brilliant and that had a TN panel too.

I'm currently getting a refund for mine which was only 8 months old etc.

If you buy early revisions of hardware expect there to be problems.
