In comparison to a AMD 5950x CPU?

    • Why am I here answering this question right now? This is 5900X, but answer is pretty much the same, even at 1080p, for gaming.

      https://youtu.be/vlngwUuDYoc?t=744

For other 'I need a CPU to do work' things, its good but not quite as good as a 5950X (probably, mostly)

Why I posted this question,.. as I new out there in Ozbargain land somebody just couldn't stop themselves letting this question go un-answered

But honestly wasn't sure so now I'm looking forward to my eBay Afterpay AMD 5950x CPU

So thanks for your answer πŸ‘πŸ˜

    • Well, Intel 12700K come with a built-in heater to keep you warm in winter.

  • I bought the KF version a couple days ago for a very similar price. No regrets though.

  • Recently bought a 3080 from the afterpay sale and found out that my 10th gen cpu will be bottlenecking the heck out of the gpu. So I might aswell upgrade to the 12th gen.

Tho quick question. Is it fine if I buy the z690 motherboard which is compatible with ddr4? As I don't wanna waste money

DDR4 is fine, go for it

    • If the 10th gen cpu is bottlenecking your 3080, it’s time to get a new monitor.

    • Can you please specify? Which 10th gen, this must be at 1080p because at 1440p or above the 'bottle necking' will be very very minor at best for the higher end 10th gen CPUs, 10600K, 10700K or 10850K would've been solid choices for high FPS gaming at the time the 3080 launched so, interesting decision to upgrade such a recent CPU, very curious about your use case and the data that lead to your decision.

      • It's a i5 10400f.

Ok so display one is yes a 1080p 144hz monitor, secondary is a ultrawide 34 4k.

And 3rd monitor I play forza and stuff on a 49 inch ultrawide 4k monitor.

So ye. Do you guys think I should stay on the 10th gen and just upgrade to an i9 when they become cheaper?

        • I suggest trying to snipe a better 10th gen CPU since the 10400/F is quite good, but not the top of single core performance

10700K/F or 10600K/F for single core performance these will all probably have virtually the same single core performance, otherwise the 10850K (don't get the 10900K) if you really want to go all out, those have been on some great deals but really, do you need 10 cores and 20 threads? 8 or 6 for gaming will do and the single core performance increase is negligible.

Last question is what motherboard do you have? If it's a Z series, you're mostly going to be fine unless it's a budget, a H series should be ok then the B series the higher end ones should be fine but parts start to go down - it depends on the individual board, some Bs will be better than Zs, only Zs will allow overclocking

  • It's a Aorus z590 Extreme.

So do you think the i7 10700f is fine? I do have one spare but i was thinking of selling it to get the 12th gen. But….
