Anybody recommend a motherboard for this of great value with the afterpay code? Is this the CPU variant that needs a cooler as well?
Great value board, even has WiFi: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/MSI-AM4-MicroATX-B550M-PRO-VDH-W…
Can get it $10 cheaper elsewhere, but I'd just get it from the same store as the CPU so they arrive together.
If you're not so value focused, I've got this one and am very happy: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Gigabyte-AM4-ATX-B550-AORUS-PRO-…
The retail 5600X comes with a cooler, but it's not the best so I would recommend a 120mm tower air cooler to go along with it unless you are truely not bothered by fan noise (stock cooler will be fine for temps)
That's probably a good board for a 6 core.
I have been using MSI MAG B550M MORTAR AM4 ( https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/184531044021 ).
Good board, stable with PBO tuning as well if you are into that stuff.
$132 with the same code, that board will handle the higher core count CPU's too.
Re cooler, it comes with the box cooler, but highly recommend you get a different cooler though. 5600X performs at peak for longer if you give it a good cooler.

$211
best boardThe stock wraith stealth cooler is awful, I switched to a $45 CoolerMaster air cooler and gaming temps dropped by 15-20 degrees
This is $10 cheaper with cpu cooler

Retail version also includes cooler.
OEM doesn't come with manufacturer warranty. The seller/store will be responsible for warranty so you'll likely only be provided 1 year.
Retail packaged AMD CPUs come with 3 year manufacturer warranty.
When have you had a cpu die on you in 3 years?
Edit:Especially between the 12 month to 36 month age stageBought a brand new Ryzen 3 3300X. It died exactly 12 months later. Still waiting to hear back from the warranty process.
Fear enough
is it worth upgrading from ryzen 3 3600? GPU is rtx 3080
Depends of what games you play, what resolution your monitor is at and what fps you are already getting.
I play at 1440p 60fps. The only drop is when playing bf2042 lol
Stop playing bf2042 :p
@Lost-Sons of dallas: yeah i went back to bf5 then fps was smooth. crazy
You have a 3080 and no 144hz ? Come on man.
Monitor upgrade if that's holding you back from higher frame rate. Shouldn't be the 3080.
1080P, 5600X is so much faster. 4K, negligible upgrade.
The difference between 3700x and 5600x was very noticeable to me at 1440P. System just feels more responsive. I would not go back to a 3000 series if I didn't have to.
From 3700 to 5600 and it’s very noticeable? Wow. Is it 144hz? I’m considering 5900 but not sure if i need it lol
5600x is insane value for money now. Don't pay double for a 5900x just to get 5% extra performance for games.
No, maybe to Zen 4.
My x570 probably won’t support zen 4
thought you said rtx 3080?
@[Deactivated]: he is talking about his x570 motherboard not an rx570 gpu
@YahooChess: true, thought it was a typo. well he just had to buy new mobo then.
@[Deactivated]: Yeah it's my mobo, depends on zen 4 performance, I think from ryzen 3 3600 upgrading to 9 5900 should be a pretty decent value instead of upgrading both lol.
@robertwt7: yeah, and you can reuse your cooler too, same socket, etc.
Zen 4 isn't released right now, Zen 3 is the latest and the 5600X to 5950X CPU series is Zen 3.
Zen 4 is unlikely to support AM4 socket as it's going to be released for next gen from AMD: AM5 + DDR5 support + PCIe 5.0 support. Expect that later this year with associated 'new and shiny' pricing. The next gen desktop CPU is the 7000 series from AMD (6000 series is for laptops).
At this price you can't go wrong
Trigger pulled. Thanks.
How much was this CPU at its peak? Over $500?
like $4-500
Thanks OP. Grabbed one. Just gotta get a good mitx board
dang. i bought a 5600x yesterday for $338
I've got a 3600 currently and a 5700 xt with an UWQHD, is it worthwhile upgrading to this? This is a really good price.
3600 is fine with that GPU and resolution, and it's not worth updating your CPU before GPU really
says code can't be applied when i try it.
wow great price! brought mine last year for $350ish and that was an awesome deal at the time.Great to see prices finally dropping across the board :)
Trying to purchase but because I have only made an Afterpay account it’s not letting me purchase it as the amount for one transaction seems to be too high (even though like most they give you a $600 limit).
Have emailed them about it, doubtful it’ll be fixed before the sale ends.
Will just wait for the 5600 to be released instead and get that like I was originally planning!
You can pay some of it with Ebay gift cards.
Thought about that, went to try it through Suncorp but seem to have an issue with logging into their rewards site right now. Probably would be worth just holding off instead.
Suncorp rewards is closed now. Use ShopBack app for discounted eBay cards.
@CaptainHoltisDad: Well that would explain it. Guess the discount gift card page needs to be updated with it! Not sure why the page even exists any more.
I deleted my Shopback account ages ago, guess I’ll need to sign back up again.
@Nousernamehere: Well I’ve now tried it, bought a $200 eBay voucher, payment through Afterpay failed. Bought another $30, payment failed again through Afterpay.
Giving up on it now, will wait till the next sale that doesn’t use Afterpay. What a useless service they are 😂
That's a crazy good price!
