The Midnight Black Controller Bundle is already gone.

    • Looks like they are all gone now…

    • +2

Yeah I got the stock alert from Discord. Took about 7 minutes, which is a bit longer than usual.

    • Just wait for ps6 if you haven’t already got a ps5

      • +1

Yeah 2026 isn't too far away.

    • Sony should really release a 2TB model or something more expensive to allow it to actually be able to buy…

How is this supposed to help? That wouldn’t allow them to produce more which is the main problem

  • +1

Is it worth buying a digital edition?

    • +12

nope, you can't sell digital games to someone else and you are limited to online store to buy games. It's more expensive in the long term
For example, I got Horizon Forbidden West for only $39 at release (trade-in deal with EBgames). If you own a digital version you are forced to pay the full price $125 (PS5 version) on the PS Store

    • +8

If you're happy paying whatever the PS Store wants to charge for a game, sure.

Forbidden west is $125 via the store and has occasionally gone down to around $80 at JB and Amazon.

    • +1

If you have no interest in buying physical discs like me, then sure. I'm looking to get a discless for a second console. I only got a disc version for watching 4K Blurays.

      • +2

I find discs to be inconvenient and I never get around to selling or giving them away. Still I almost always buy the disc version for new games, because digital is such an incredible ripoff.

        • +1

They can be quite useful, especially if you are an EB world member above level 3.

          • Birthday trade in bonus (+50%) + Level bonus (15-25%).
          • The pre-launch, pre-order deals. So many people traded in their PS4 Pro, XB1X with games and basically paid $50 to $100 out of pocket for their new console(s). The guy next to me actually walked out with extra credits (> $900) when doing the trade in.

I got more back (in cash) for Miles Morales (PS5 disc version) from EB. That's after holding onto the game for close to a year.

    • +1

Not really, unless one of the following conditions is applicable to you.

      • You have a lot of digital version of PS4 games (and/or PS5 games). Or, have collected quite a lot of PS Plus games over the years.
      • You expect Sony to introduce some kind of PS Now service (or a new tier of PS Plus with PS Now) in Australia really soon.
      • You have lots of friends have PS5 and is willing to…. (um… it is against the terms and conditions so it is the wrong thing to do, but I know some people share iOS account or Netflix account).
      • You have rich parents and going digital means they will have to let you buy digital version of games.
      • You can afford digital games and swapping discs are too annoying. Or, you are really only interested in a small number of Sony exclusives and have really good control not to buy games just to add to pile of shame.
      • You have PS4 or PS4 Pro and is keeping that for now.
      • +1
        • You're desperate for a PS5 (not justifying but knowing this'll be the case).
        • If that's the case, it is not really "worth" getting it.

          • @netsurfer: Value is in the eye of the beholder my friend. To them, it's obviously "worth" it.

            • +1

@kiriakoz: Well, I already hinted why some people might be able to benefit from digital version. For now, they just need to have lots of good friends.

It's not a big deal compared to Apple tax. For family members, you cannot go it is not worth it to pay Apple tax for latest iPhones. For now, these consoles retain value well.

    • +1

Honestly I'm happy with my digital edition. I never buy games on release and PS Store has good sales on games after 12 months. Especially if you also create a US account and just compare each sale on dekudeals.com

I have over 100 games sitting on my hard drive currently.

  • +3

Damn tried within 5 minutes and still missed out. One day.

  • +1

I missed out on every alert given this week! Bummer but all I can do is keep trying.

    • +1

Me and you both. I have twitter notifications on, But stock is always gone within 2 minutes.

  • Managed to snag one !

  • -5

I genuinely find the thirst of people insisting on buying a console amusing, probably in the model that people don't want and with a bundle that they may not want too.

This is a company that manufacturers gaming consoles who cannot provide adequate numbers of gaming consoles, why not reward them with your business? Didn't Apple used to pretend they didn't have enough phones for earlier iPhone models? People used to line around the block for them.

    • +4

Well the silicon shortage is definitely real. It’s just the state of things at the moment, high demand and low availability. Console manufacturers would definitely ramp up production if they could.
The bulk of profits is made by game sales so they’d want to have as many people on the platform as possible. It wouldn’t make sense to underproduce them just so they could make a bit more profit on the initial sale.

      • I appreciate that the silicon shortage is real, but they can't get it right now. I'm just commenting primarily on the desperation of people to get one. I will get one once silicon is at adequate supply so that I can negotiate a decent deal and get the bundle/model that I ideally want.

        • +1

Yeah that’s fair. The shortage definitely fuels FOMO. I agree no one should be buying the digital version out of desperation. Manufacturers/retailers starting to bundle accessories and games at full RRP shouldn’t be a thing either.

          • @FireRunner: Yeah, there is a psychological element to it. I know it's not deliberate but some people will be more inclined to buy it because they're so rare. It puts an urgency on buying one if you see they're available etc. That's why I mentioned the iPhone comparison, I know this one isn't as deliberate but outcome is the same.

            • @kiriakoz: Desire for scarcity is not a psychological flaw, it's a feature

              • @mgexiled: Depends what it is. If it’s for overpriced gaming digital edition consoles then, I beg to differ.

                • @kiriakoz: It depends on what it is for everyone but it's quite a universal trait, usually tailored to one's own interest.

  • +1

Finally got one, nice upgrade from a base PS4.

  • Oh miss it 😢 again

  • So I just happen to be near a EB and asked a out the discless as they are saying order instore.

He was working it out when I got t in as a the announcement was so fresh.

After a few mins he said they must have "loaded them incorrectly" and to keep an eye out.

  • This is worse than buying GPU for PC. Wait to buy PS6

    • probably need at least another 3 years for that lol.

      • Yeah at least, this cycle has been delayed due to stock shortages it would not be a good look to release a new gen when people have only had their PS5 for a year or two.

  • +2

I honestly was pretty underwhelmed by the PS5 and the cross-gen games and sold mine recently…seems underpowered too so early in its life cycle even more so with next gen 40 series gpu's entering the market soon

    • +1

yeah, also there are too little ps5 exclusive so it's better to invest in a PC.
I'm still rocking a ps4 pro alongside my PC

    • +2

I'd expect to see more power squeezed out of it as devs get more familiar with the hardware - you can barely compare PS4 games from near launch with how good Ghost of Tsushima or The Last Of Us Part 2 looked.

    • seems underpowered too

But it runs every game thrown at it perfectly to the target 30/60 fps?
What basis do you base that claim on?

      • +2

Plus both PS5 and Series X have ray tracing for only $750 which is insane for the price.

        • +2

Exactly. IMO console gaming is extremely underrated nowadays given their tremendous value when compared to graphics cards that cost $1-2k alone.

        • The ray-tracing on console is abysmal and too taxing on the hardware..its not like you see on a capable PC especially now with 40 series cards on the way with advanced ray-tracing

          • @[Deactivated]: I can't be bothered looking at the DF video so I'm going to take your word for it but assuming it's true, I agree it's a fair point. (though I assume there's a performance mode with reduced RT that has a solid 60fps like Spiderman did)
But as mentioned above, it's not fair comparing a $750 PS5 (which has been out since 2020) against high end graphics cards that cost almost 2x more (and from your comments, against the 40XX series which don't even have a release date yet). You'd have to compare it against cards in the same price range which are already available like the 3060 (which can barely handle 1440p let alone 4k30).

            • @ChillBro: Gpu prices have fallen dramatically in the last week with some below their original msrp and continuing to fall especially now with new Gpu's on the way come September…an older gtx1080ti from 5 years ago can do 4k 60fps

      • -1

It barely running anything at 4k 60fps…most of the 60fps targets run at upscaled 1440p and 4k is primarily limited to 30fps…..
        I cannot game in 2022 at 30fps..LMFAO

      • Watch Digital Foundry video on Gran Turismo PS5..it drops down to low 40fps in full circuit with rain..not great for a first party title on a PS5

  • I don't get EB Games thought process of selling out of a pre order?? Isn't the whole point to pre order when something is not in stock??

    • They get given a 10,000 unit pre-allocation so release 10,000 pre-order sales for it.

They may or may not actually get 10,000 units shipped to them, or indeed know when, but that's what distributor has allocated.

No point taking 20,000 orders if they don't have that allocation.

      • +2

"No point taking 20,000 orders if they don't have that allocation."

        Kogan does!

  • OOS within 1 hour

    • +4

That's a bit optimistic try within 1 minute.

      • +1

even so 1 min is a tad optimistic; try seconds

        • Can confirm it actually was minutes this time!

My phone had logged me out of my EB games account so I had to set my store and then re-login. Then at payment CommBank was taking forever to load the window to send a netcode…

But got there in the end thankfully.

  • +3

How is anyone supposed to scalp these if they're not in stock? This is ridiculous, calling ACCC.

  • yeah its not the special edition version so you miss out on a few extras.

  • I think they should build up the stock till there is millions of units before puting them in stock because with the people rushing to buy it will still have alot left over.

  • -1

is finding a ps5 that rare, been offered by a friend to buy theirs for $600 that includes games, controllers and VR headset but wasn't sure if that was a deal, especially if as I rarly play these days

    • +3

Sounds like they are offering you a PS4 not a PS5.

If it really is a PS5 (disc version) with all of those accessories, you could resell for $1,000+

  • +1

The lack of Fanboy wars in this thread is heartening.

    • +4

      Xbox is better hahaha.

  • -1

I'd buy a disc version with a 2tb ssd bundle at RRP if it was offered. I can never get onto these deals during the week due to work times.

  • -1

    What's better this or XBOX?

    • Search previous deals the comparisons have been done to death

    • -3

      Short answer is PS5
Most xbox games are available on PC

      • Yes and more and more PlayStation games are coming to PC…Forespoken, FF7 Remake,Uncharted Legacy of Thieves,God of War,Horizon Zero Dawn…just to name a few and this will happen more going forward

    • +2

If you like your first party games and popular multiplats virtually free digitally with Gamepass opposed to $100+ then Xbox….
Currently enjoying games like Mass Effect legendary edition,Guardians of the Galaxy and Rainbow six seige extraction on GP

  • Just got a call to go pick it up! Pakenham, VIC
