Camera Flash on The Other Side of The Road

So I didn't try to beat the red light, I was just cruisin as normal on the yellow, passing the intersection, then stopping on the second intersection just a hundred meters away, it was dark around 8pm, I'm pretty sure I saw a flash on the other side of the road the height of the speed camera/traffic light, but I cannot confirm for sure if it was for me.
So probably best to wait for the transport letter to come in a couple of weeks.
But do cameras catch front/incoming cars or just when the you passed by one and it takes the behind plate? Just asking as I don't know how it works in QLD.

cheers

  • Probably another car speeding through the intersection.

    • I hope so. I did't sleep well last night, thinking about a potential $300. That's a lot of groceries for me…

Yeah, but it's only a few litres of petrol now.

        • darn petrol, that's one thing as well, I was running empty last night and I panicked and went to the first petrol station I saw, it was 2.19/L on E10, then just a few kms later I saw 1.79 something, I forgot the name of the station, so 40L full.

  • Yeah have to wait I guess.

They see you rolling they hating

If its your first offence in 2 years write a letter to them and they might forgive 300

been here in QLD barely 3 weeks, wasn't speeding at all as I know how strict road rules are here. so this is going to be my first offence in 2 weeks, not 2 years, lol.

Probably me, flashing lights behind a speeding/running car to scare the shit out of them at intersections. Sorry.

    • no, but seriously mate, do they flash it to catch wherever side of the road you are, or camera on same side you're driving?

I was just cruisin as normal on the yellow

From the QLD government transport department web site:

You must stop on a yellow light, unless it is unsafe to do so. The yellow light is not the end of the green light phase—it is the beginning of the red light phase. If it's safe to stop, you must not drive past the stop line at the yellow traffic light or, if there is no stop line, the traffic light.

    • it was safe, not much cars on the road…but I can't just figure out if it was me or the one behind me, or the other 2 cars on the other side of the road where the camera was…

      • That's not a good attitude. Only keep going if you are too close when it goes yellow to stop

  • So probably best to wait for the transport letter to come in a couple of weeks.

Yep. You will either get the letter or you won't. Anything between now and then is just chatter.

    Usually they are behind.

If its a combined red light camera and speeding camera its likely only photographing from behind so can also see whether the traffic light was red.

If you really that curious you could drive past again and see the sensors cut into the road - likely that only the sensors in front of the fat white line would relate to the camera so you can see what side of the road its on.

  • Not related to the question, but there's this speed camera on the GC highway which points towards the sky.

It's a double camera, one fixed and the other points towards the sky. Not at an intersection or red light so why are there two cameras and with one pointing to the sky?

Obviously to catch superheroes and aliens who travel above light speed.

  • Probably a combined red light + speed camera, might have caught you going a bit fast to make it through the yellow light. Very common in Brisbane so always stop on yellow lights unless absolutely necessary (for safety) to go through.
