Make what you want of it. Also, not really a bargain
I have been a big google supported but do not support those terms for Google drive
Same here, but the SMH article outlines something of interest:
Another fine point was largely glossed over in the fuss over Google Drive: the same terms have applied to dozens of other Google services, including Gmail, since March 1. Documents and photo are frequently sent as email attachments and stored on Gmail, yet there hadn't been any major concerns raised about that material becoming Google's intellectual property.
Basically google owns your stuff and can do whatever they want with it. Google is getting a bit scary.
Small part from Google's t&c that isn't sometimes included in reviews.
You retain ownership of any intellectual property rights that you hold in that content. In short, what belongs to you stays yours.
As far as cloud storage goes, it's all the same to me, just don't put anything extremely private.
That pretty bit, ozhunter, is somewhat nullified by the "oh and coincidentally, you give us the worldwide right to do whatever we want with your stuff" bit. That's the bit that's getting up ppls crotches.
It's also why I wont store any of my data with google. fsck em.
The T&Cs are horrendous! I'll stick with Dropbox thanks.

Yellow journalism. Dropbox, Sugarsync and Skydrive all demand the same thing. Don't believe that rubbish.
Not sure I'm seeing that on https://www.dropbox.com/dmca#terms with Dropbox. What did I miss?
Awesome. A neg yet no indication of how I was misreading the T&C. Awesome move.
neg nullified
Meh. rate it for compatibility, just not as decent as MS 25gb offsite storage.
From the company that was stealing data as they performed Street View recordings.
Marketing 1: Integrity -10
Mine is not ready yet. Seems they are still rolling it out.
tested google drive 2days ago.
5Gb is bigger than dropbox
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/68839 gets dropbox to 5gb easily, plus you can do other stuff as well: http://scriptevolution.com/blog/2012/03/completely-max-out-y…
ADrive give you 50GB free.. pretty sure
Not really a deal. It's not available for everyone yet, and it's always going to be there at 5GB.
google is doing alot of evil lately…
-google owns all your files
-google makes an all in one privacy policy
no thanks
proof? its all FUD
Google plus now allows you to check your former searches, google is recording everything you search for if logged in and demands your real name or will delete your profile (they claimed no personal info in past). Its not really FUD, google claims changes are for advertising, but patriot act is the real evil.
my hard drive is 12TB RAID.
At least you are going for reliability…
I wouldnt say its now available. You sign up and Google advises when its available to you. I signed up a few days ago and was advised yesterday, so it seems to take a few days.
This is not really a bargain, although the OzBargain community loves free storage.
"Give away your best ideas." :Weinberg in "Secrets of Consulting" (book)
I guess Google would like us all to adopt that….
This has already been submitted (and moved to the forums).
Not a bargain. Its just Google jumping on the bandwagon that started well before they offered this.
25GB SkyDrive FTW!
Office Web Apps FTW!
Google Drive vs. Dropbox, SkyDrive, SugarSync, and others: a cloud sync storage face-off
http://www.theverge.com/2012/4/24/2954960/google-drive-dropb…
Meh, this cloud thing is overrated unless you are a corporate user. What happened to email sending attachments and other files to yourself the good ol'fashioned way? :P
I still do it. This just complicates things. Judging by that article, the market looks way overcrowded already, expect some of the smaller players to drop off after 6-12 months.
I was of a similar mind, until I realised that if I keep all my tutoring-related crap in the 'cloud' and sync-ed, it doesn't matter which PC or tablet I have on me - it will all be up to date. And if I decided to pissfart around and do some work while on the tram or in a 'liberry' or sitting in outside somewhere, everything will be sync-ed within 5 minutes of getting within range of a trustworthy wi-fi connection.
I still can't see any use for Gb worth of storage though… I have 15 students at 5 different Universities, and all materials (including scans of entire textbooks) take up less than 2% of my UbuntuOne drive… speaking of which, the 'theverge' story makes no mention of UbuntuOne, so they can bite my shiny metal UbutnuOne drive. In their silly head to head table, U1 does everything except maybe iCult-OS, Windows phone and Blackberry.
So anyway… if you want to use Google Drive storage and you're not a Microsludge victim, you can access your Google Drive (for things you can't store in your genuinely-multiplatform UbuntuOne drive) by installing a freely-distributed kerjigger outlined at the link below…
http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2012/04/how-to-access-google-driv…
Not sure if there's already an Ubuntu kerjigger to hook up to SkyDrive, but if there isn't I bet there soon will be. Then I will have 50Gb (DropBox + Box + CX + SkyDrive + U1 + GDrive) in various 'clouds' that I can fill with pointless garbage, then sync and access across platforms.
SAYS NOT AVAILABLE
Its not available, the post is misleading, you need to sign up for it and wait a few days to get it.
You have to request for it first and then they will send you an email to say it is avail.
Neg this because it is not a Bargain.
Why has this not been moved to the forums or just plain deleted as a dupe. There has been no price reduction, discount or introductory offer. It's not a bargain, it's free. If that isn't reason enough, it's also not available to everyone instantly yet.
No deal here.
wait, it's still not available.
