    $59.49 with PTCH15 on ebay

    for identical looking tap

    • Taps are only identical looking if the inside is identical otherwise it's ridiculously likely that it's filled with cheap parts that will break after 1-2 years

What is it? Oh it's a tap.

I was googling to see if this tap is any good and came across this other Ozbargain post (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/643195) and subsequent Lead in Aldi sold taps concern (https://www.news.com.au/finance/business/retail/a-kitchen-ta…)

It does appear to be a different tap, but it was enough to make me hesitate for now. I pretty ignorant on the subject but wanted to pass along my "research". I'm happy to hear from others who may be more informed than myself.

I came here to say “caveat emptor” re: lead from ALDI taps.

Whether it's a bargain or not @ $99 is always difficult to discern with own-brands. But the original price sure isn't a bargain - a well established brand tap can be had any day of the week for $250.

    • -1

That's probably made in the same factory as the $99 one.

"With a solid DR Brass construction, and durable plated finish, make this Mixer the focal point of your kitchen."
With such shoddy sentence structure, how could I trust the build quality of this tap?

  • +4

For what it's worth, I recently replaced our kitchen tap with this one that is somewhat similar and a fifth of the original price of this one, and it goes great.

    • does it swivel or it's fixed?

i need a new mixer tap for the laundry tub.

      • +1

        It swivels :)

  • I don't have any experience on this tap but apparently this is made in Italy.
With this price range I don't think you will find anything else that is not made in China. It's up to you if you want to compare this to the Bunnings or eBay stuff.

    • Are Italians known for making the best taps?

      • +2

Probably not, but may have a lower chance of lead intake compared to Chinese made.

      • +1

An Italian with only 1 year warranty is probably worse than some Chinese.

Have a look on reece.com.au, European made tap must have at least 10 year warranty.

        • Hence I said "With this price range".
Some of the Reece stuff are asking for >10 times the price as well so not a fair comparison

Mario and Luigi are Italian… so yes?

      • Italians make pasta and supercars?

The lead issue related to a different tap and it turned out that the testing that found an issue was infact flawed…

    https://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-07-26/aldi-confirms-tapware…

We had a tap that retailed over $600 that developed a leak. I couldn't get a replacement cartridge apart from importing one from Italy at an equally stupid price so I bought an ALDI tap as a replacement. Since then we installed an outdoor kitchen and I bought another ALDI tap.

These are both decent taps, operate smoothly and they don't leak. If it turns out that the cartridges are hard to get then they will be replaced by something like this one linked above. At the price it will be good value.

I like the knurled ends - telecaster style.

Although I'm not associated, I can confirm that the supplier of these taps is an Australian company that mainly specialises in high end tapware. These specific taps are Italian made taps and cartridges also. Generally speaking, they are better quality then most taps made in China.

Also, in reference to the lead issues, that was the previous supplier that was found to be selling low grade taps and hence the change to the he current Aus suppler.

    • complete noob here, does it swivel? tx

Thank you, does this do hot and cold before I pull the trigger?

@MS Paint: One last question: would this still work as a sauce dispenser tap?

  • These are distributed by Linsol and are cheap because of the 1 year warranty

For comparison, Linsol's other mixers have warranties between 5-25 years

At this price point, get a mixer from IKEA with a 10 year warranty and a high likelihood they will look after you if there are any issues
