Does recent price drops suggest a new line up coming may be ?The Zen4/7000 is known to be Q3.
These price cuts are more that they need to be more competitive to Intel, and the new 3D cache chip is coming out soon.
7000-series on a new platform (AM5) should be out later this year.
They'll also be releasing some non-X parts (5600 non-X, 5500) and filling out the gaps in the range (ie 5700 to slot in between 5600 and 5800). Main driver at this point is competition from Intel with their 12th gen line-up
Not for many months, maybe this year though.
5700x and some others has been confirmed for a next month release
You mean 5700 regular (who cares?) There are no "beast level" new series processors coming out for at least 5+ months.
@hamwhisperer: Regular? I would assume youāre talking about 5700G APU in which case has been out. There is also 5800X3D coming soon. But if by ābeast modeā you mean next gen 7000 series, then yes it is coming in Q3.
Intel's 12700 outperforms the 5900x and is cheaper, the price cut was overdue.
The 5900x is a lot more power efficient though, which pretty much negates the cheaper price in the long run
Are you a running it 24/7 at 100% usage?
The idle power consumption of the 12th gen Intel will be less than AMD. High power consumption is seen at 5ghz +, they don't constantly use 300w or whatever the benchmarks say
@greatlamp: You need to be a bit careful. At idle the intel is likely to use less power, because all the performance cores would be turned off and basically you only have an Atom CPU running. AMD on the other hand will have a full performance core running, albeit at a lower frequency/power state.
However, as you start to do anything the AMD is going to be able to stay in a lower power state longer - because its default core capability is higher - while the Intel CPU will have to start winding up more power hungry cores. I mean, that's the point of a big.LITTLE architecture after all.
Stats seem to suggest that in, say, gaming, the Intel will do better for power consumption for the CPU - but the draw is dwarfed by the power mad GPU gobbling up all the power. If you are really interested in efficiency, then the GPU is going to be the component that ate all the pies.
For single core yes, for mutli-core the 5900X does beat it in most tasks.
For gaming the 12700 is the go as it delivers slightly better gaming performance on average for less coin with a cheap B660 board.
If you turn off the power limits then the 12700 would use about 20% more power, in gaming its probably fairly even for power usage though.
Can never being myself to pay a higher price on an item I've seen previously discounted.
This or a 5600x for gaming
Imo until the new Ryzen generation is out you're better off with the 12th gen Intel - unless you're reusing an AMD mobo. This is especially true if you're intending on using Windows 11, as the AMD fTPM lag is quite annoying (patch is apparently ~2 months away)
Is this a new issue? Iāve just recently had the Win11 upgrade pop up when previously it was unsupported.
No it's not a new issue really. There was a separate bug in W11 that did affect AMD performance but that was fixed fairly quickly. This bug relates to AMDs implementation of a firmware based TPM module. W11 requires TPM, and the way that AMD CPUs provide it via firmware results in ocassional hangs. This affects W10 and W11 equally if you enable fTPM in your BIOS… this said you're only really likely to enable this if you are moving to W11 (or you enable it to test W11, move back to W10 and forget to turn fTPM off).
You can luckily turn fTPM off and it doesn't break much. The one issue I'm aware of is Riot games like Valorant don't like W11 without TPM
@NuclearWessels: I'm playing Val on an x570 Aorus Xtreme + 3950x on W11 perfectly fine?
@winhhh: I assume you've got fTPM turned on in your bios. The issue with Valorant happens if you disable it.
If you ever get a second of lag where everything hangs thats probably the fTPM bug. It's not a regularly occurring thing so it's not a deal breaker- just annoying when the lag happens and it's poorly timed (like in the middle of a fight in DotA..)
See the bug here: https://youtu.be/TYnRL-x6DVI
@NuclearWessels: No, it's on actually. The only thing I had to disable was CSM and reset the Secure Boot key to factory
Intel stitched up AMD well for Windows 11 played the dirty game of optimising themselves and ensuring that Microsoft put some nice easter eggs into the OS to hamper AMD.
That said AMD needs to wise up in the dirty Intel tactics and at least be on the lookout for them.
Ok LOL
5600x by a mile.
HODL for the 6900x
Do it for the memes
5950x is $810 with the same store on eBay with coupon.
Wasn't this $560 at Amazon recently?
Yep
My time travel machine is being serviced today…shame.
nice price
Is this only useful for people with an AMD box already? I'm guessing I'd be better off with Intel 12th gen if not just upgrading a CPU?
I'd say so. I'm contemplating retiring my 3800X for a new Intel, if only for the single core performance boost.
Only works with a 450 or above motherboard, and the 450s will mostly need a bios upgrade to support the 5000 series.
Got this with the previous tech titan deal at same price $629.00 which was a steal at the time.
Now prices are starting to come down heaps, I think around $550 is a good price for this model to settle at
Got a 5900x from gg.tech last week for $650, arrived in 2 days and was well packaged :)
