What I hope for coming into the 4000-series is maybe for a system like used in coin collecting, or other limited items… a ballot system: We put our name into the draw and if we get drawn we get the option of making the purchase. It beats staying up the stress for customers and staff for midnight launches.

    • +6

That's pretty much what mwave did for their allocation of 3000 series founders edition cards, and it was a total shitshow.

      • -1

I don't know how many founders edition cards they had, but I imagine it would have been maybe 3 with how bad it went.

        • +1

They probably sold them to friends and family anyway.

    • isn't this just EVGA way? think EVGA does sth similar in US

  • +2

    $799 is the right price.
My 1070 no ti was $629.

    • My 1070 was $550 bought in 2015, sold last year for $600 something for 6 year old card. I got paid $50 for using that card for 6 years, can't complain.

      • -3

bought my house for $500k sold for 1 mil 6 years later - got paid $500k to live there

    • +3

Not going to happen, currency value draining badly as more cash is printed and distributed. Nothing I buy nowadays is close to previous years price+published inflation rates

    • +2

Even the Coles branded 2L milk went from $2 to $2.6.

      • +3

should HODL then till it drops to $1.99!!

shout HODL in front of colesworth.

  • If we could keep waiting, the price could drop more. Any how we have been waiting for a long time.

    • You would think so. Ukraine is the biggest supplier of neon gas which makes the lasers that makes the chips. So you never know…

  • I'd buy it - but I'd need at least 12GB RAM for twelve hundred dollars

    • +2

even the overly expensive 3080 Ti only got 12gb, it was a farce from manuf.

the next one up is 3090 with 24gb with even more farcical price.

      • Could get the Rtx3080 12gb for $500 less than the ti

        • The 2 has very similar performance and same amount of vram, personally I just get the cheaper one.

In some cases the 12gb is faster on gaming. plenty of youtube vids review on it.

  • +3

Needs to drop below $1K before anyone who's not desperate will bite

    • I was considering the BPC deal 3070 Ti yesterday and then sold out overnight, they jacked the rest of the prices >= $1349.

    • You be six years older, covid started 3 years ago, maybe three more years to settle things out.

      • I'm not desperate for a new GPU right now but I'm sure there are a few like me around here who would pounce if the price is right

    • No MSRP published? Seems to be be around AUD 1000-1200 range looking at USD initial prices. Likely a floor price around 1k.

  • This or 3080 10GB? I game @ 1440p 144Hz. HODL by the way.

    • Depends on games you play. With DLSS I had most games at 1440p 165hz on a 3060ti most settings high but not all.

      • What res was it rendering internally, though? If it's DLSS it could be scaling up from anywhere from 1200p to 360p.

Not discounting DLSS btw. If it looks good with it and the card has it, it's valid, just not as transparent.

        • +1

I had it on DLSS performance in some scenarios and quality in others, depending on what gave me the boost to 165hz. Honestly I can't tell the fkin difference with it on or off visually. Not in fast paced FPS games. Sure in Cyberpunk when I'm looking at the sweat off a random guy wearing denim short shorts… Maybe that level of detail matters. But not when someone (aged between 6-10) is shooting at me from a 300ft tower in Fortnite.

          • @Dvbargain: Nah, I'm not arguing the validity of using DLSS, just wanted to know what DLSS settings, which you provided :)

Personally trying to HODL, but it's so tempting!

            • +1

              @Erwark: If I needed a card I'd buy a 3070ti now… Such good perf with DLSS, but I've got a 6700xt atm so waiting for a good 3080 12gb or 3080ti price haha

              • +1

@Dvbargain: My 1070 works okay, but this would be something like a 2.3x increase.

  • The website looks so dodgy

    • +5

they are real brick and mortar shop, mostly 2 guys there doing PC repairs. its an old school shop style like back in the 80s-90s. if you're lucky you can haggle as well like in good ol days…

some people here probably not born yet back then so its not easy to understand which I can understand.

    • +2

that's what you call a traditional website, probably designed in front page

with its rare late 90s architecture it really should be heritage listed

  • Personally, I'm holding for 3 fan 2 slot cards.
In an mATX case and board you lose a slot with the +2 slot cards which is annoying.

    • +2

Pretty sure the evga xc3 has already had sales posted multiple times over last week or two. Looks like you didn't watch while holding :D

      • +1

Only one for a 3080, looking for a 3070 ti or 3070, 3080 a bit over my budget.
There was one for PLE that went so fast I missed it last month.

        • +1

Yeah 3070ti is best value card atm so fair call.

Keep an eye out for the Vision 3060ti too.. Nearly 3070 perf and undervolts and over clocks quite well (I owned one) but wasn't too great at stock

          • +1

            @Dvbargain: Oh wow that's a pretty card, and a 2 slot!
Thanks, will keep an eye out!

            • +1

@thedean: Also all the Watercooled ones are 2 slot. Sea hawk, rog strix 6900xt LC :) I've done all the research as I had a H200

              • +1

@Dvbargain: They are in stock at a few places, but at $1100 for a 3060ti is in hodl territory right?
                https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/graphics-cards/nvidia/91…
                https://www.mwave.com.au/product/gigabyte-geforce-rtx-3060-t…

                • +1

@thedean: Yes, don't buy that. Great card (looks schmick too) but the value proposition against a 3070ti for $100-200 more is kind of "eh".

I think it'll drop soonish. But who knows I could be way wrong lol

                  • +1

@Dvbargain: It's only for a HTPC, so I can use it like a console, so no big fuss I guess.
I have a 6700xt in my desktop (SG11) which will go into the HTPC/Server, then my 3070ti will pop in my desktop and hopefully free up a PCI slot.
Just wish there was more 2 slots, I don't think the 2 fan variants are good value, bet they will run hot.

                    • +1

@thedean: Don't know about the whole 2 fan thing… It really depends on the model.

I had an Asus dual rx6600 for a little while. 2 fan but chunky heatsink and it ran at like… 50degrees on load or something stupid.

Then again those cards are very efficient at 100w draw Max… While 3060ti I saw over 230w. Not comparable really.

It also hit 86c stock Max temp at full load, fine as it wouldn't go any higher but as soon as I undervolted the max temp was more like 75c and I had higher boost speeds

                    • @thedean: with that case id look at something more efficient, 6600 xt would be a nice match - 3060 ti at 200w might be ok

it's just way too restrictive for a 290w GPU, only way it wouldn't cook is if you undervolt the 3070 and have yourself a modular SFX psu for a touch more airflow, a thick 120mm radiator for the CPU an a fan with really high static pressure like a noctua industrial fan - it's going to be loud and run pretty hot

you are better off just buying something with far better airflow like a s15 precision for ~$50 unless you already have those components

                      • +1

@desync: Actually, the only thing in the case that creates significant heat is the GPU, the CPU cooling is an external 280mm radiator.
I am running the 6700xt fine at the moment which can peak at over 350w, and it doesn't go above 80c.
The case is actually designed quite well for GPU cooling, just not CPU which is why i jerry rigged it lol.

                        • @thedean: non mesh is a joke but the mesh version isn't too bad, it's limitation is that the main source of ventilation is from a 120mm fan behind a radiator - if you set it up as designed you just have to be a bit careful what you put into it as teh space will quickly heat up

if you mount a radiator outside then sure, you wont have a problem, without the radiator i think you can fit a 140mm fan at the front there

heres my build, started off fine but as the gaming got more intense and over time the liquid in the radiator started evaporating and heat started to become an issue, eventually resolved it with a much thicker corsair h80i AIO and a noctua 3k rpm industrial fan
                          https://au.pcpartpicker.com/b/66WXsY

silverstone s15 at scoptec for $55 is a very nice upgrade, although i think it'll only fit a 240mm AIO and a ~215mm length gpu - and cable management can be a pain, but it is a beautiful, small case with amazing airflow

                          • @desync: Oh we have very different cases. Mine is an matx case, Sg11. The s15 would be a downgrade for me.
                            Its not the ITX case.
There is a side section for fresh air for the GPU and I run two 80mm Be Quiet fans that expel the hot air above it.

The CPU temp of my 3700x was untenable, so I mounted a 280mm radiator on top of the pc (as it sits under my monitor anyway). Max CPU temps are 55c. All dead quiet.

        • @thedean:
          When was this?
          Do they have price alerts?
Any other stores in WA you recommend buying from?

    • +1

my VR build is currently in an a tiny mesh silverstone s15 case which i absolutely love, the 2.75 slot cards are a problem but so are the 3 fan cards

it's either 2 fan or a buy a new case - the size of these heatsinks are ridiculous and unnecessary

  • Showing up at $1250 for me

  • The best ever time now to see GPU deals flooded like crazy, good for gamers

  • Price up to $1250, not sure why, not as if someone bought them all in droves. marked as expired.
