We've got the scoop on a Free PlayStation Vita deal that Vodafone have just published to our site (declaration of interest: we're a price comparison site and we're affiliated with Vodafone and all major telcos)

It's a FREE Playstation Vita deal with 4 plan combinations from Vodafone online.

Mod: Linked directly to vodafone. Marked affiliated links where applicable.

So, we all know not all 'FREE' items are deals so we've done some digging on the savings and they are pretty significant on the 3 of the plan combinations, especially on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and HTC Sensation XL which are our pick of the deals (TIP: go past the $49 deal to the $59 deals as that is where the greatest savings are - see analysis below). Avoid the $79 deal (see below) as it is not a competitive saving.

All the four combinations of deals are here with full details on our site.

Until you realise the terrible reception with Vodafone…

      • +10

Quite unfortunate as well. 3 had much better reception :(

  • +1

good but rmb what network :)

  • details for Deal #4 is wrong, you have $59 per month plan in there which doesnt add up to $1896 over 24 months

    • -1

i know, horrible math and logic.
Tell us to avoid the best deal?
Edit: no just wrong info, sony xperia s is on a $79 plan not $59
And they list the price of a nexus in the htc deal

    • +1

      Discrepancies on Vodafone's website:
On the page outlining this special: http://www.vodafone.com.au/personal/tablets/tablets/playstat… Xperia S has to be $79 plan or over. However,

On the page for Sony Xperia S: http://shop.vodafone.com.au/mobile-details/buy-sony-xperia-s , the Vita is available on $59 plan or over.

I don't know which is the error, but I took a screenshot of the $59 offer.

      • Great find, not to mention the free 4GB memory card

      • Hi Kevo, would you mind posting your screenshot for us?

  • like it but already in a contract :(

  • +4

me want free vita without any plan!

  • +4

So all in all most are effectively ~$5 more than my phone plan (TPG $14.99 $550 1.5GB) and I struggle to use that quota. And its Optus. My usage case definitely suggest I should stick to buying outright.

+1 for the excellent write up, and that this would suite plenty of people.

    • +2

I have the $12 live connected plan with 1.5GB of data which I struggle to use because of no reception, also Optus :(

  • on a side note it appears the sensation xl no longer comes with beats earphones/headphones

  • +1

Hi Nerd1 - you're right, typo there. Apologies - thanks for picking it up. It is the $79 plan. Thanks highdealer for picking that up and providing the edit. Post has been updated.
    WhistleOut

  • Looking to get a Nexus but CJ's has been doing $45 p/m for a while, while Voda is still $59… so out of market.

    • Depends on your usage cos my dad picked up a Nexus on Voda $29 plan over 24 months….obviously low call credits and only 200mb data use.

  • +5

If you guys have enough cash to throw at the phone and Vita outright you might be better off going with Live Connected. (This might only apply for the LC Tribe 16 v Voda $59 plan)
$15.99/month gets you 2GB of data billed per KB and not MB (like Vodaphone does), 6000 texts a month and $650 of call credit to anyone (At 3mins/call that's about 213 voice/video calls (639 minutes), on the $59 plan you get about 224 voice calls (672mins), less if you make video calls). If you make lots of short calls, Live Connected wins out because the flagfall is 40 cents on Voda compared to 35 cents on LC (also the $/min is less on LC).

Voda wins on the text side though as they are truely unlimited (but 6000 a month should be more than plenty for most people) and customer service (LC is pretty much just online based and pretty hit and miss).
LC (using Optus) wins on the network (unless the new Voda rollout will actually improve things), and overall cost.
Everything else, they're pretty even, a little give and take here and there but nothing really big.

(I guess if you don't want the Vita, then LC wins hands down that's like a $500 savings!)

    $15.99 x 24 + $504 (Nexus) + $419 (Vita) = $1306.76 ($109.24 less than Voda)

But then if you have the cash to throw outright then it might actually be better to get the voda plan and just shove the $1307 into a savings account at 6% over the 2 years and you might actually be up at the end. I might do that maths later if my lecture doesn't get too boring.

Oh and feel free to argue against me, I'm just throwing out another option for people to consider, this is still a good deal especially if you don't have the cash to go outright.

    Edit:
Oh and I guess depends on how much you call other people on Voda, you may or may not see value between the two plans.

    Edit2:
Was just about to do the maths but realised that the tax you techinically have to pay on the interest would make it pointless and worse off.

I don't think it's really a attractive deal (maybe just for me).
Currently I'm on LiveConnect $16 plan

    24 months x $16 (+ $20 Sim Card delivery fee)= $404
    PS Vita 3G + Wifi + 4Gb card (Dick Smith) + Delivery = $409
    Total $813

Compared to the Voda $59 plan, that leave me $603 to buy a phone outright

    I wanna buy Galaxy Nexus. Kogan selling it for $409 + $19 = $428

I have $194 left, and no contract (and 4Gb memory card), but I have to pay the phone and PS Vita upfront.

EDIT: Oops. Trance N Dance just said the same thing :)

  • So for the PSvita, does it also get data connectivity from Vodafone included in that plan or do I have to buy another sim for it?

    • Would need it's own sim / plan afaik

+ve for posters who do their research and put the effort in to spelling everything out for you.

Thank you for making OzBargain such a great place.

    • Whistleout is a website that compare deal.
Not that great of a research IMO
Galaxy W only cost $251 on the vodafone website,
The galaxy nexus is selling for around $430 recently,
Sony Xperia S RRP is $500, or on a plan for $463 after cash back
The PS Vita 3g/wifi only worth around $360
The HTC Sensation XL is only cost around $460
      http://www.techrific.com.au/product_info.php?products_id=228…
Why research if you are not going to put the cheapest price in the comparison?

      • These are cheaper but remember these are grey imports with less on warranty and sometimes lengthy delivery times. Ive been waiting since 14 April for my vita from amazon germany

        • -2

all the price i listed is for australian stock, i dont know what you are talking about?

        • Highdealer show us your Australian stock links

        • techrific IIRC is a grey importer like Kogan
So no those prices probably aren't all Australian stock

  • You only provided one link.

The Vita is the 3G model. Cheapest on staticice: http://www.mwave.com.au/sku-65040006-Sony_PlayStation_Vita_Console_(Wi_Fi_and_3G_Model)
The WiFi only is around $360.
The link you gave for the HTC is for o/s stock. Here is the model with 12 months Australian warranty. $504, not $460. http://www.techrific.com.au/mobile-phones-htc-c-80_116.html?…
RRP on the Galaxy W is $279. As far as i can tell from from Voda you have to buy a $30 recharge also, which brings price to $281.

  • DEAL #3 comparing price of Gnex

Galaxy W, if you dont want to buy $30 recharge, chose the 365days tab and chose the $0 recharge option

    http://www.techrific.com.au/htc-sensation-xl-16gb-android-sm…
HTC sensation XL, as far as i can tell, you get the same 12 month warranty from the same website

Playstation Vita 3G + WiFi version - normally $419 Outright (Current RRP as price MWAVE)
    Really?
i go to the mwave website, it is for $428 and they dont even have stock

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/68383
Vita 3g for $360 at closing down dicksmith,

    http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/store/product.asp?idProd…
    Galaxy nexus for $428

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/68301
    https://www.allphones.com.au/shop/outright-detail.asp
Sony Xperia S $498 outright or $463 on a plan after cashback
Not to mention the vita also come with the xperia s on a $59 plan

    Happy Now?

    • With the Sensation XL, it looks like shipping is $80, making it $539?

      Can you pick up?

  • @WhistleOut — so much for "price comparison site".

Did you even see shipping costs at Techrific? Usually $80 / phone (hidden down the bottom of the page).

So comparisons are wrong, at least for: Samsung Galaxy W - normally $269 Outright (Current RRP as quoted from Techrific).

  • Hi kevorulez, would you mind sharing your screenshot for $59 plan?
