Good budget CPU whose performance is comparable with 10400f or 11400f. Only con is the expensive 12th gen B660 motherboard.

Ah gotcha! Apologies OP!
Better than my i5-4690 4c4t 3.9ghz
Keep moving forward tech!
Intel has been staying on 14nm for too long.
who is buying an expensive 12th gen motherboard and pairing it with a super budget CPU?
This right here.
This CPU with the cheapest motherboard and GPU listed on PC Part Picker is $403.66
Meanwhile a 5600G with cheapest motherboard comes in at $378
I know what I'd prefer.
::edit::
The fact ths is has no iGPU makes it completely useless as a super basic home/office machine.
The fact that a 5600G or X can be had inclusive of a motherboard for less money makes the i3 useless as a base gaming rig too.The cheapest H610 mobo on umart is $159 so it's not a bad pairing for a $300 total combo.
But then you need to add a GPU
The 5600G has an extremely capable integrated GPU and 2 more cores.
Ultimately the minimum spend for a complete system favours the 5600G (and you could even go lower than a 5600G!)
If this had an IGP then it would indeed be a deal, but without it you're needing to add a minimum of $70 to compensate for the fact it has none.
@virtual81: If you’re building a budget gaming PC though which would require a gpu I would argue the intel route may be better.
wait till you chuck in the DDR5… LoL
For a NAS server where you don't need much CPU performance but a motherboard with plenty of SATA slots would be useful.
This CPU doesn't have built in graphics, so a old graphics card would do.
Or a Ryzen 5600G, which ends up cheaper and more powerful, and you'd get a better motherboard under it for less overall spend.
Was worth it until 9th Gen after which they dropped ECC support from the i3's.
Thanks OP. Got a 10105F for $99.
I instead bought the 10400 (non f) and b560m mortar for $299. This 12100F coupled with the b660 ds3h (which has terrible sound and vrm in comparison) is $340.
12th gen still seems absolutely awful value. The equivalent motherboard to mine (b660 Tomahawk) is $350 by itself.
Now the price of B660 is stopping people from buying the 12th gen setup. AMD maybe will release more zen3 budget model like 5500, 5600 non x or 5700x. Hope it can push Intel to drop more.
