A new release from POCO that's intended to be their new "budget phone", while still packing some features normally found in more highend flagship phones. Available in Black, Blue and Yellow with 6GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB options.

Featuring a 6.43" FHD AMOLED display with 90Hz refresh rate and Gorilla Glass 3, 6GB (or 8GB) RAM, 128GB (or 256GB) UFS 2.2 Storage, Widevine L1 DRM for Netflix/Amazon HD, NFC, MIUI 13 for POCO (Android 11), 5000mAh battery with 33W fast charging, 64MP/8MP/2MP Rear Camera, 16MP Front Camera, 4G with B28 and Dual SIM, IR Blaster, fingerprint reader and powered by the MediaTek Helio G96 Octa-Core CPU.

While the presence of a MediaTek CPU may be a downside for some, it still offers mid-range performance and the other features like Widevine L1, AMOLED display and NFC make up for it in my opinion.

For reviews I recommend checking out Techtablets as it's compared against the new POCO X4 Pro 5G mid-range phone. A summary is that the M4 Pro offers a lower price, better WiFi/GPS/Storage speeds, better video/photos and offers Widevine L1.

      Good. I wasn't planning to!

    • Can you elaborate on what's wrong with it? I haven't used a Chinese brand phone for quite a few years now, but back then I was pretty happy with Xiaomi and Lenovo phones.

I suspect it's because it has a MediaTek CPU. Many budget phone brands are known for using MediaTek CPUs (because cheaper) and never paying MediaTek fees to update to the latest version of Android.

This is not an issue for Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO phones as they all get MIUI updates. Plenty of MediaTek phones from all 3 brands have been updated to MIUI 12 (Android 11).

    • I don't know why. It's less than $300. Obviously some compromises are made, but at this budget it seems pretty decent

I was just looking at the x4 pro 5g $475 after shipping and tax.

definitely the x4 worth the extra money

      • Yeah it's also cool that it has an IR blaster

  • thanks OP… was looking at this the other day so the coupon was handy

  • A couple of relatives who were looking for a budget smartphone got the M3 last year, I had the chance to play with one for a while, and it was a lot better than I was expecting for a $200 phone. Apparently, the battery life is extremely good and the camera wasn't too bad either, IMHO the IR blaster is pretty nifty to have too. If this is an improvement over the previous gen, then this should be a pretty decent phone for the price.

  • Are Poco's ever available locally with local warranty?

    • You can sometimes find AU websites that have grey imports which should offer better local warranty. Maybe Xiaomi Australia will introduce them here sometime in the future. Given that Xiaomi are starting to crack down on grey importing.

  • Hi Clear,

Do you think the store coupon and SPRING17 at checkout would work with cashback from Cashrewards tonight?
