[TAS] Free Rapid Antigen Tests for People with COVID-19 Symptoms @ Tasmanian Government

510

Since people have shared WA's free RAT kits for every household and SA's free RAT kits for close contacts it's a good oppurtunity to share the same from the Tasmanian Government. If you have symptoms of the cold, flu or COVID-19 you can register to receive a free RAT kit instead of paying $20+ from a pharmacy.

In my experience they'll typically hand out 2 tests per person.

Simply register on this form and choose a pickup location or home delivery. If you have multiple people in your household then you need to contact Public Health on 1800 671 738 to arrange multiple kits.

  • Completely useless having a criteria one needs to have symptoms unless you need a GPs referral that you've got a cough or runny nose. How are they going to tell?

We all know how well faith in society being honest has worked out throughout all this.

    • Originally you didn't have to register and you could just go and get one. They only introduced the registration to stop people having to queue up for ages. There's really no checks or anything to see if you have symptoms and there's no shortage either.

So for the Tasmanians out there…. go get some :)

      • Wonder how many people are going to/can request at once and if they check ID (or just form)

        • You will get 1 or 2 per person so it's impossible for you to get a box since you can't leave your car. They'll check your Medicare card. It's been running well since last year ;)

          • @Clear: Ah, there's Medicare card checking. For deliveries I'm presuming there's a cap?

            • @decc0: Yep 1 or 2 per person.

    • It's not just society through the COVID:

I can tell you if people can gain something, even if it is at the cost of someone else, they will do it, hell politics and the legal system are built on that principle.

      • Is life itself a zero-sum game? With finite resources, and an ever-increasing population, I would say yes

I understand why the tragedy of commons exists, but in my experience it goes beyond that as people would screw someone over for a glass of water.

    I didn’t realise that Tasmania has a government… that’s so cool!

A competent one after decades of corruption 😉

      • +4

We should try that in Australia.

        • Decades of corruption? Let’s get ambitious and go for a century!

          • @tharlow: Move to QLD then. They have the monopoly.

            • @Chazzozz: I think they banished the opposition to their new quarantine facility… hopefully they make an appearance before the next election

Nice if VIC would do something like this. I guess Dan has no money left after spending it all on his numpty jackets

    • +1

      You’re forgetting his medical “team”

I don't know if there's an official government website for it, but I thought in Vic you could pick up free RATs from testing centres?

      • Yep, that's right

  • Haven't they been doing this since the beginning of the year at the police academy and the DEC?

    • Yes at all state government run COVID testing drive thru sites.

Keep the fear going and going!

    • +1

Yeah the news of thermobaric weapons into Ukraine is certainly a big fear. Imagine having your lungs melt.

  • Hasn't everyone already had it by now? Or is TAS a bit like WA

    • Up until late last year Tassie had 0 cases in over 12 months. Before the borders reopened in Christmas it was 1100 cases and since Christmas there's been a total of 44000 cases.

43,000 cases in 2 months really shows how much more transmissible Omicron is.

Approx 44,200 people out of a population of 542,000 have tested positive for covid in Tasmania. So a little over 8% of the population.

For context NSW is at approx 16%, Vic 15%, QLD 11%, SA 8%.

FYI… In VIC you can go to any government run COVID test center and ask RATs if you or anyone in your household have symptoms. They will give you 2-5 per person (depending on center) listed on your medicare card.

  • Hundreds of people with symptoms are going into town to pick these up….

Not really. It's been happening for about 3 months now. This stopped the rushing.
