      • +8

Just like how they suddenly managed to start supplying 2070s again… ??

        • +5

But will you want to buy 3070's in 2 years time when the 4070's are out?

          • -3

@plmko: Irrelevant… Silicon shortage hence these are coming out in masses easy to produce and easy to make a profit, but who's to know when it comes to greed and profits..

          • +2

@plmko: no.. because the 5070s will be out by then.

    • Don't let these stupid hold comments change your decision. If you are after a 3080, this is a good price unless it's already OOS.

  • +20

Keep holding, they are dropping fast and staying in stock.

      • +7

Oh damn, no more 3080 available forever from now on…

      • +2

I'm not paying $500 over RRP for a product that is about to be superseded.

      • +2

        Pathetic

  • +13

Definite trend now… as said above HODL is the way!

New stock coming soon, so old stock must be cleared. Only way that's going to happen is prices come down a lot more.

    • -6

and they still selling non-lhr at stupid prices: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/304373807095

      • +4

There's a difference between listing and selling

        • -4

would be surprised if some dumbass still buying 7 months old 3080 for $2700.

  • +3

Beautiful. At this rate, we'll be able to get 40XX cards for retail price.

I mean… they'll still be expensive, but at least, they'll be expensive in a normal way.

    • +15

      Press X for doubt

      • +4

Never know, might be "retail" price, it just that the MSRP has jumped 30-50% compared to last generation

    • +1

      Lol no chance of that.

    • Before announcement 2080Ti's were retailing at 2K so the previous gen being high doesn't mean the next one will start there.

You buy day 1 you get a new card and rrp, you want below rrp you either need to get lucky or wait till towards end of life cycle.

    • very high chance that 40XX won't even have official MSRPs.

  • Bit off topic…what PSU is needed for a 3080 and 3080ti? I have a Corsair 650w and fear it might not be enough. It’s only for 1440p gaming, want as close to 165fps as I can as per the monitors capability.
CPU is an i9 9900k if that makes any difference

    • +4

      It'll be fine.

    • It will be good and enough!

    • They say 750w minimum. You should be fine with 650w though, do you know if it’s gold rated?

      • Corsair 650w v2 rmx 80+ gold fully modular

        So that’ll be okay for a 3080 or 3080ti?

        • Should be fine to 3080 or 3080 ti if you are not stressing both CPU and GPU at the same time.

        • +2

I suggest buying a "watt meter" on ebay or something.

Once you purchase it, connect your PSU cable onto it, and then run your current computer at full load.

This will give you a measure of your total watts.

In the mean time you should look at reviews specific to the GPU you're intending to get (as different brands run lower/higher watts), and check out what the full load power consumption/total watts is.

You should run max 90% of your PSU total watts just for safety reasons, as current can spike once in a while.

A kind suggestion, don't go off people who just say "it's fine", base it on factual tests on your specific build.

          • +1

@Ausdave: Okay, thanks mate, good suggestions

            • @Lionheart: No worries.

When you look up GPU reviews, ensure you're looking at just the "total power consumption" at full load of the GPU, not "total computer setup power consumption" at full load.

    • +1

I've used a 650w PSU with a 5820k and 980 ti and got constant PSU protection shutdowns
      3080 is 320w
9900k depending on how it's set up will draw well over the 95W tdp, 150-250w when boosting
give it a go i guess and worst case you'll need to purchase a bigger one

  • +7

$16XX now for 3080! Soon will be under $1500!

    • -4

not if they keep getting sold out. the key is to buy it if you can pay for it, not when it reaches bottom rock price.

That's like buying bitcoin or shares at the lowest which is impossible.

      name checks out

  • +2

it will be $800 by October, and able to run any game in the mareket.

    • +10

      Compare the meerkat?

      • +1

        you'll get $800 meerkat, not $800 Rtx 3080.

        • What would I get for my non-LHR 3080 in the current meekat then?

          • @m0usju1c3: not $2700 lol.

    • will come back and check in October.

    • Not biting till $100 on gumtree

      • +1

That's all I'm willing to pay for an ex-mining 3080 card, which most likely has been abused and molested.

        • How would you know if it's been mined on?

        • +1

you know that mining cards are often better looked after than gaming cards, right?

        • -1

          you'll get a broken 2 year old ex-mining 3080 for $100 yes.

Its been making $3000 profit so you can have it. they bought it for $1139. LoL.

  • +5

    Maybe if it wasnt Gigabyte.

    • I've had the non-LHR version of this card for just over a year and it has been magnificent and stable.

      • -2

how much crypto profit you made so far? pray tell us.

        • +2

None. I only play games on mine.

    • I have a 2080ti Gigabyte Windforce. The fans became defective within a few months due to the crappy cooler that it had constantly running made my gpu run at 84c with games that I threw at it with two fans blowing under it two help it cool. Had to wait about a month for a replacement. At least when it became defective. It was way before the Gigabyte RMA servers got compromised.

  • +2

For only $300 more than a 3070Ti, one would rather get this if not holding? I don't think LHR makes any difference if you're just playing games and not destroying the earth mining crypto?

    • +2

      Definitely i would get this.

    • Destroying the earth mining crypto?

    • +1

I went ahead and bought a 3070ti yesterday with the afterpay coupon for $1210. i know the 3080 is about 15-20% better but the different in price is about 28% more for this 3080+Delivery. I figured i'd just save the $500 since i want to play Elden Ring NOW!! haha. I couldnt HODL anymore…. My integrated graphics are killing me! For anybody who DOESNT need a card tho? I'd 100% keep holding! Hopefully we just dont have a repeat of the 30 series launch again where the 20 series tanked in price HARD 1 week before release and as soon as the 30 series were sold out, bam they shot back up over what they were even at. If that happens again with the 40 series ill be PISSED.

  • !!!Dooolllhhh

  • +2

These will drop more… rtx 4080 will be like $1899 I bet and these will go to $ 1100-1200 (which was what they were initially selling for on mwave 2 years ago.)

    rtx 4090 $3899

    4090 ti $3199

    • +1

I mean sure, they will drop more as the tech becomes older and older.

    • +1

As i said in another reply, i hope we dont have the same issue we did with the 20 series and 30 series. Sure they dropped insanely a week before the 30's launch but after the cards were out, and sold out worldwide in an instant, the 20 series shot up past what it was even at and kept going. I still dont even understand some people at the moment… the 3070ti has slightly better performance than a 2080ti but the 2080ti is still selling for more than the 3070ti.

  • +3

Skycomp ones have sold out, IJK won't as the system isn't real time.

My point being not everyone is hodling with you

    • -7

ignore the hodler, they want to wait till $100 for rtx 3080 on gumtree. they just time waster and troll, adds no contribution to ozb community.

  • +1

I'm not convinced that prices just continue falling until the release of Lovelace, but I'm guessing retailers/distributors are getting a bit spooked about the idea of having too much stock on hand between now and then in case there is a genuine crash and they're left hodling the bag…

Not saying this is as good as it'll get and you should definitely buy now, but I wouldn't be thinking it's a lock that prices just keep tumbling every month until we hit ~MSRP

    • +4

Keep an eye on Taiwan's situation. If there is anything serious happening there, the GPU price may be up again. If not, the price will keep dropping as many of us choose to HODL.

      • +3

The hash rate of eth has flatlined. In the past 12mo it jumped 550TH. Assuming only 3070s were mining at 60mh, that's about 10 million GPUs going into crypto, or around 25% of the production! Us wee little gamers hodling won't impact the price too much. The now 25% reduction in demand it's what's (thankfully!) sending the price south.

Fully aware there are a million assumptions in the above =P

        • especially given ASICs and FPGAs are mining Eth now…

      • +1

You mean Xi will invade Taiwan?

        • +1

Depends on how Ukraine is going. No idea if this will happen.

    • MSRP is the target otherwise 4080 is next target.

  • why is gpu price dropping?

    • because supply > demand

    • and crypto is getting harder to mine
