Women's Kmart Basic Thongs $1.00 (Was $1.25) + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ Kmart

1120

Been wearing Havaianas thongs for ever, but really annoying they break so easily. At $39.95 a pair, many don't even last 1 year. Pictured here

Looked around for cheaper alternatives, and came across the Kmart ones - $1 a pair.

Figured - what heck - lets go for it. So far (after 1 week of ownership) so good. Does the job, feels the same - 1/40th of the price.

Go Kmart!

    Looks like their normal price

    • +21

      I bought a few pairs in 2021 @ $1.50 each.

So based on current inflation, they should be around $6000 now!

      $1 is a bargain.

      • +5

So based on current inflation, they should be around $6000 now!

They don't contain semiconductors as far as I know…

        • +3

Nor do they contain a whopper meal deal…otherwise they would be $600 000!

        • +2

          Only sweatyconductors

        • But they do use block chain, so it's understandable

        • nor are they Petroleum based

      • Pfft. And they say btc is the financial future.

    • That's because it is normal price since last year!

Dupe of Long Running Deal Men's Kmart Everyday Thongs $1.00 (Was $1.25) + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ Kmart from November!

Actually there is another difference - this is technically women's not men's:

"A perfect addition to your beach ensemble, these thongs will go great with your favourite dress, jeans or sports luxe outfit.

        Product Details

        Suitable for: Women"

Edit: which there is actually a link to in the original post too. Definite dupe.

          "Men's Thongs"… Suitable for: women👣
When did thongs become gender specific?😉 (maybe so with the other type of thong)
Just Kmart trying to broaden the number of buyers.

    • -2

      Stupid post

    • Are they double pluggers though?

What sane person buys single pluggers?

  • +4

Didn't even realise thongs could cost as much as $40 wtf

    • -1

Well the real crocs thongs can go upwards of $100 so, $40 isn't too much in comparison lol

      • +5

        Crocs ain't no thongs

        • -2

crocs do thongs look but are amazing big fan of them safe my feet after covid.

    • Believe me or not, I got this despite my comment and I love them (partner bought for Valentine…)

    • +1

I used to live in Brazil. Home of the havaina. Locally they're only about $r7 for the basic ones which is about $2aud. So they're just an export rort. However I've had mine for about 8 years! Getting low on tread though and no blow-outs yet.

  • +7

Whenever you break a plug, drill a hole through the middle of the plug, and the same in the end of the stem. Countersink the plug hole.

Then screw the plug back to the stem with the screw head going up inside the plug.

If you don't own a pair of thongs until your feet go right through the bottom, you are doing it wrong.

Kmart thongs are super soft and you will go through them quick. But they do provide spare plugs to repair better thongs.

    • +6

And if you’ve cracked the hole so the plug keeps getting pulled out. Just use a bread clip.

      • +1

My current thong i bought from target. The nylon stem came off.

So i took the smallest screwdriver i have. Punched a hole throught either side of the stem and the thong itself threaded those cable ties use to wrap plastic bags. The metal with plastic coating.

Thong still going good and its been at least 4 years.

    • +8

Love this comment, thanks! Really appreciated.

Just admit that I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. But I love it nonetheless.

    • Hard core - here's your medal

    • Used some Billabong up to my heel going through the sole. Can't say it was comfortable in the end
Never had to fix a plug, guess they were solid.

  • +29

If i came home with $40 thongs in an ethnic household, I would be beaten with them

    • +10

And you know it'd be for your own good.

      • +8

They would smack you with it even if you done nothing wrong.

        Just in case.

    • +5

If you grow up and lived in an ethnic household you've added +100 agility and +100 evasion skills avoiding them throughout your life…

      • +4

My mum was like Clint Eastwood with a thong, she could bend that $#!+ around corners.

        • +3

And they have such aim with them.

They would hit you and your brother then it return to them like a boomerang. Lock and loaded ready to hit you again if you dont stop crying.

          • +3

@xoom: It’s like you were there. My mum is one of the least athletic people I’ve met. Unless she has a thong in her hand… then she’s a sniper.

    • +1

Not if they were on special.

      Discount thongs ma!

      • $100 marked down to $40. It would be crazy not to buy them!

        • +1

"Be a man. You saved $60 here. You save $60 there and suddenly, you have $120."

    • That would hit you with their 50c thongs

  • Are the Kmart ones more foamy or rubbery? That's what I like about Havs they are thick and strong and doing wear out

    • They are foamy and lite. Different from the havs one. I personally prefer the Kmart ones I find them more comfy.

      • wouldnt this mean it wears away more easily compared with Havs which are denser, hence the price.

        • +1

Correct. Wear away super fast. But infinitely more comfortable than havi's.

I usually get my quiksilver thongs free using BCF credits, then use the $1 Kmart thongs as spare parts. The sole is a good compromise between foam and rubber. The straps are useless, have replaced every plug.

  • +1

$40 thongs?? Wow quite sure even the surf shop is cheaper and those places are notoriously expensive 🤣

  • +3

I have one of these. 1 dollar is good value. But I find the strap at both sides quite painful since both straps stick out as they merge with the sole plate making it quite painful to walk fast on them or stand on them for long period of time.

    • +5

Just one? You’re probably having trouble walking fast due to that fact.

      • +4

        Better hop to it.

  • +3

Havaianas have a rep for breaking? I've got a pair still going strong from 2006.

    • Yep but how long if you wore them?

    • Mine last me a year before breaking. A year of heavy use. Still, "only" $12 a pair…

    • Havaianas are good in the sun and UV.

No tire rot. My Myers one like a prune

But all things break from the hole got to repair

    • +1

Havaianas suck in my opinion, they are quite stiff so provide no cushion and they seem to break as regular as cheap thongs. I just upgraded my havaianas to these from big w
https://www.bigw.com.au/product/wave-zone-mens-five-plug-tho… and so far they seem pretty good. Im a sucker for double pluggers (couldn't find the originals anywhere local)

      • Its a Long Running Deal from November, so OP didn't check / ignored warning before posting! Have to wait 6months before reposting.

Mods don't usually take down Dupes if there are enough upvotes.

        • Hmm so even though it’s only 2 months later, if enough users pos vote it then it stays. That’s a pretty odd rule.

          • @Chickenleg: Think it is to avoid criticism of Mods for why a Deal was unpublished, when it received so many upvotes & comments.

Mods sometimes combine comments in older Deal, but it's a bit old now.

  • +1

Bought a heap of havis for around $12 each from Kogan a little while ago… 100% 12x better than these.

If you are breaking your Havi's then these don't stand a chance…

  • Jeez these'll be nearing your heel within a fortnight. More landfill.

Thongs (thongs cos we aren't Americans)

  • I've been wearing these $1 kmart things for the last year. Gone through three pairs. Only because my puppy destroyed them. Otherwise they've been solid. Not as solid as havianas, but havianas are certainly not 40 times better than these.

    • +1

Travisty thongs are the holy grail. Wore them every day for 11 years (people who know me know this is fact) and took them on a Euro trip. My other half blew out 2 pairs of havi's on that trip alone (they're crap). I remember an American with a super thick accent saying "That guy has no shoes on" while walking through the ruins in Pompei. Also no problems scaling mountains in Monte Negro.

Can't get em anymore. Devastated when my big toe eventually met bare ground. But…bought 2 pairs for $15 ..so once my BCF freebies are gone… Travisty is back.

Did you tell the yanks you wear thongs on your feet 😂

  • +1

These are so bad for your feet. I only use them for outside like handing the clothes for a few minutes. Would not recommend for actually walking in. Great for spares outside.

  • +2

    These are crap quality honestly,

You'd honestly be better of spending an extra $2 for better thong, for the $3 ones.

  • +3

Got some havianas for $5 from anaconda last month.

Paying $40 for havianas is an ozbargain offence.

  • +1

Wore double pluggers for 40 years. Then I got a pair of Crocs thongs, and despite the internal struggle, knew I'd probably never own another pair of double pluggers ( and haven't in 5 years). Last so much longer, and are as comfortable on the last day of their life as the first (actually more so - they're a tiny bit stiff when new).

I feel blasphemous just typing this, but it's the truth.

  • +4

Do yourself a favour and buy a pair of Archies.

    • Do yourself a favour and buy a pair of Archies.

Came here to say the same thing.
I live in thongs, and after trying the cheapies and overpriced Havis, I discovered Archies and will never go back. You will pay a premium for them, but if you get as much use out of thongs as I do they are still a cheap pair of shoes,

  • While these are cheap, I go through a pair every few months. They seem to split where the toe support connects to the base .

    • See above for ways to extend the life. A plastic bread-tag is one option.

  • These are great around the home or spares in the car. But becareful in the rain. It sticks to the ground like toilet plunger and slips like fk. And try not to unplug when you lift your feet.

  • +2

Adidas slides have lasted 6 years already for me. Don’t think I will go back to havianas and suffering blow outs. For all I know the slides are probably as fashionable as KT26s now

    • I joined the slides gang with a dirt cheap pair while traveling in Asia, and found the thick soles way comfier than wafer-thin thongs. Not planning to spend $35+ on adidas/Nike ones, but any good recommendations for ~$15? I'm looking at the Kmart Everlast ones $8-10 online which look okay…

    • +1

To me, wearing slides is like carrying your lunch around in a grey plastic shopping bag. It signals to the rest of the world that you've just given up.

Admittedly there are some nice looking ones for females.

      • +1

Only if you wear them with socks

  • +1

I grew up wearing thongs, when they used to be rubber.

Now the cheapies appear to be some very light plastic foam

the problem I've found is that once the thin coating under the sole wears off

they become dangerously slippery on any wet hard shiny surface

like Sydney George St granite paving in the rain - or most bathroom/showers

it only takes one slip where your leg suddenly slips out sideways and painful strain to your inner thigh muscle

for me to never wear these again

that said - on the beach or anywear else - fabulouso and totally the right prize for the price $1

  • Not sure if all retailers do this, but some I've bought Havaianas from let you do a full exchange if you break your Havaianas within 6 months.

Having worn Havaianas and moved to Kmart thongs, the Kmart ones break easily as they're made of plastic so they don't last as long as the Havaianas which are made of rubber.

I have heaps of these Kmart thongs - I give them to guests to wear in the backyard.

The amount of times I keep tripping over, it's just easier to buy Havaianas :(

  • Hang on…Havaianas are not $40 but around $15 (Kogan, Anaconda sales) and they last ages. I have converted to H thongs mainly because the base is a solid supporting feel, cheaper thongs feel like waling on squishy foam. Also I will have to say H thongs do have a bit of style about them.

  • Now hitting 50yo I've transitioned over to Birkenstock. I'll say they will more than likely outlast me.
I'm a tight arse bought them on market place new for way less than what they are worth.

    • +2

yeah I wear Birkenstock Arizonas as my main summer footwear now for a few years - got them on special in Germany for maybe $35 - Oz retail price tends to be around $140 - recently annoyed I got an ?ozbargain special from matchesfashion UK for $47 but ordered the wrong size - my usual Euro size 43 but turned out I needed 41 - she it - so returned those - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/671476

problem with the cup-shaped inner sole - collects grit and stones which are uncomfortable to walk on and make me stop every so often to lift and shake my foot to let the pebbles drop out

tip for cracking cork in the base/sole - standard white PVA glue is the go - I didn't think it would work but it actually does good

but my old nearly worn out pair has worn front and back edges - making the heels slippery AF on George St wet granite - I've nailed/glued some DAISO heel/toe repair rubbers on but one of these is starting to come off

and I've read the Birkenstocks are not as comfortable as they used to be - maybe cheaper/harder soles

so anyway - I complain but keep wearing them - comfortable for 3 hours walkaround - when I start to get sore feet. As I get with my more expensive Keens sandals so waddya gonnado

  • Thanks for posting. Thongs are generally way overpriced and good to see some cheap offers for basic versions.

  • surprised anyone pays more than $10-12 for Havaianas

    • Those that do get their ozb card suspended till they repent the error of their ways.

  • These thongs leave a slight residue or weird feeling at the bottom of my feet after wearing for a while (not too long though). Do others have the same issue? Do you know of other cheap thongs that don't have this problem? Thanks

    • +1

guess it's plastic - brought to you by work-safety China … not poisonous (you hope)

      • They get sticky under the foot which is annoying, was looking for a good and cheap alternative. Any recommendations?

  • +1

awesome. running out of thongs from this comp

  • Yes, Havs are the worst but these aren't better as well. That's why I search for a thong or sandal that are moulded in one piece so they don't break. I narrowed it down to Slappa's Thongs and Crocs Classic Sandal (not the clogs). Bought the Crocs and the arch support are night and day compared to a thong. This will last me years and reduce my waste of breaking thongs every 3 months.
