Talk to them on chat. They will credit you

just had a chat with support, they gave me the pre-canned "we don't price match" - i asked if i should just return these for a refund and order new ones and they said "yes please"

          amazon are special…

          • @jaybo: That's disappointing. About 1 year ago they matched their own new price which had dropped after purchase

Those of you who have both the Bose QC45 and the Sony WH-1000XM4, could you please provide thoughts on which one is better?

    • I had the qc35 and when I broke those got the got the Sony's (wh-10000xm3) and I have been keeping an eye out for the price on these to drop as I really don't like the Sony's

the sound pressure on the Sony's are to me annoying where I can use the qc's for a whole day at work without fatigue
but like CDG commented below I'm waiting for under 300 for these but every time I see a sale I check out what these drop to

      • I don't have the Bose though interested to know more, but I have the Sony and get where you're coming from. I'm not sure what you mean by fatigue though. I feel the pressure from it, it feels uncomfortable from wearing it after awhile, I had a headache on the first go and my body adjusted. It would be a tremendous change to have a good ANC, less pressured headphone. Can these headphones even get down below $300?! Never heard one and doubt in a million years…

      • Interesting because I had the QC35 II's and felt that annoying pressure you mention, I just got some xm4's and feel its a lot more tolerable so no idea

      i've gone QC35 -> XM4 -> QC45

the isolation and noise cancelling on the XM4 seemed better initially but i think that was mostly down to the QC35s being 4 years old and on their 3rd set of aftermarket ear cushions (and they'd been for a swim….) - i think the QC45s are on par with the XM4s (i've had them about 6 hours now)

the XM4s drove me insane with the user interface, turning them on and off was a chore - there's no easy way to tell if they were already on or not - the on/off notification was an audible thing, so you'd have to put the headphones on and hold the button down to check whether they were on or off…
the "touch" interface was annoying as f*** - i'd constantly adjust the volume or change track by just brushing it against my shoulder… if you got the angle just slightly wrong while trying to turn the volume up you'd skip to the next track.
i forget exactly what happened or whether it was a setting, but it would detect loud noises and figure you were trying to talk (or something?) and pause whatever you were listening to… it did this while i was mowing the lawn, and it took a lot of energy not to throw them under the mower…

the QCs however have a tactile on/off switch so it's super easy to know when they're off or on, the buttons are all tactile so you know when you're pressing them. the general ease of use is just significantly better overall with the bose units.

the XM4s are not a bad headphone, they sound great, but the user interface absolutely ruined it for me and that was enough to sell them cheap to my nephew and go back to using 4 year old QC35s that had been for a swim in a spa for a few months until i finally killed them on wednesday night.

I’ve used Bose QC45, Sony Wh-10000XM4, Apple Airpod Max, and Bose 700. My ranking is as follow :
      1. Bose 700 (currently using this), overall the best in terms of looks and feel, sound, price, feather, mic, ANC, and the best carry case
      2. Airpod Pro Max - the best transparent mode I’ve ever experience, and one of the best sounding, very heavy when you turn or move your head, if stationary you don’t feel the weight, most suited to be use at in front of a desk.
      3. Sony Wh- 1000XM4 - feature rich, bass heavy, bad mic which is a deal breaker for me.
4 Bose QC45 - “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” vibe, a solid headphone. But beside using Bluetooth 5.1, 4hr additional battery (compare to Bose 700) and price, the Bose 700 build quality, feel and experience is much better.
Note that those are just my personal opinion and I’m not an audiophile by any means.

I just evaluated both for work (plus the Bose 700). Sony's seem to have the edge on sound quality, but Bose on NC - and for me the clincher was the mic. Sony's sound muffled on a call, whereas the Bose 45s sounded very clear. Did not test the mic on the 700s, but reviews say even better. Reason chose 45s over 700 is that the headband was way more comfortable, as well as ear cups are bigger/nicer.

And this is what i been harping on about.

People are not buying the bose because it has better sound quality than the sony. They are compromising with the bose because mic sound quality is important to them.

If the mic on either is not important to you. Then definitely get the sony.

I did find after briefly testing my work colleagues xm3 and likely the xm4 also that my ears felt warm even after only wearing them briefly whereas i had my qc35 on an 8 hour flight practically the whole time and did not experience the same discomfort.

  • I just replaced the "leather" squishy covers on my QC35 - now they look like a new pair!

Did that with my QC25s last year, using QC35 pads, much better now

      • Where did you purchase from? I need some of the "khaki" ones.

Really bad codec support, just AAC and SBC. But I expect noise cancellation will be best in class. I reluctantly bought the Sony WH-1000XM4 when it was discounted but kinda regret it due to lack of Qualcomm’s proprietary codecs, aptX (was present in the XM3s), aptX LL, and aptX HD. Having said that, there's no bluetooth headset that has everything, and at least Sony has LDAC for quality audio, plus good comfort and touch controls. But it would be nice to have a set where audio actually syncs with video wirelessly, shouldn't be too much to ask in 2022, without having to get expensive Sennheisers that don't match Sony's level of comfort/experience, or the poor quality Avantrees.
