Fitbit Versa 2 Smart Fitness Watch (Black/Copper Rose) $199 (Was $299) + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ JB Hi-Fi

71

It might be getting on in age, having launched in 2019, but for anyone on a budget, the Fitbit Versa 2 is a great smartwatch with a keen eye on fitness.
The Fitbit Versa 2 might be a dumbed-down smartwatch with more fitness prowess than productivity, but it is a very budget-friendly alternative to the more expensive options like the Apple Watch 3 or Samsung Galaxy Watch.

  • Garmin or Fitbit?

    • I'm currently going through similar while researching Smart Watches. Personally I'm looking for something that will do offline Spotify Playback to my ear buds - for this it seems a lot of Garmins do it but from what I can see the Fitbits don't. I could be very wrong!

I bought the Fitbit Charge 4 around July last year and ended up getting the Garmin 945 in December. Fitbit has a lot of features locked behind a subscription whereas Garmin doesn't. I also found the Charge 4 GPS to be inaccurate compared to the 945. Even within the same route I run the Charge 4 seems to give results +/- 15% when looking at total distance.

There is a big price difference between the two though so I don't know how well does a similarly priced Garmin compares. The only knock I have for the Garmin 945 is the sleep tracking. The Charge 4 tracks sleep very well and I think it tracks any form of sleep (including naps) automatically where as the Garmin relies on you setting a sleep interval for it to track. The Garmin 945 also does not track naps.

    • the Garmin 245 music is fantastic if you want a fitness watch

    • Garmins personally for a more comprehensive smartwatch experience with more advanced fitness metrics(depending on which model you get). Closest Garmin to this Fitbit would be the 245 or the Venu SQ, both of which are in a similar price range when on special. i bought a Venu SQ(Music edition) for the missus when it was on sale a few weeks ago for ~$180 and shes been happy with it- She uses it for the smartwatch functions more than activity tracking.

Only thing i've found to be better from Fitbit is the UI on the Fitbit app is easier to navigate(the new Garmin Connect UI is a big improvement through to what it once was) and sleep tracking metrics i've found to be more advanced on Fitbits(or at least when i last used one- Fitbit Charge HR)

  • Fitbits don’t do spotify. Deezer or pandora for music streaming.

  • I had a Fitbit Versa 2 which ended up being bricked with the software update. It’s a known fault. Google it and don’t buy this watch

  • I had a Versa 2 since launch. It has some small issues, but it's fine. Nothing like Darlene's issue.

It recently bricked due to age, and though I'm waiting for the rumoured Pixel Watch (or anything with Wear OS that isn't Samsung), I need something in the meantime.

I have a Charge 5 (it was $240 at Officeworks) at the moment, but the Versa 2 is better overall. In 2022, it's not worth the $300 retail price but deals like this make it worth while.

I think I'm going to return the Charge 5 and get this.

  • I'm very happy with my versa 2, but I only paid $139.

After using Fitbit for years, I would suggest to look elsewhere. Just search their forums and see the problems various people have. I had an ionic which just died in warranty. I got a replacement at Binglee though manager there wasn't very happy about it. Then the replacement died just out of warranty but Fitbit was kind enough to send a refurbished replacement. Then that third one died just like that and now I am not bothered to contact them.
Bought a Fitbit sense for wife, screen cracked within few days and then broke altogether. Known issue, cannot be repaired. They will offer a discount if you buy another one. But they will and cannot fix it. That's really bad design I would say!

  • these are 2-3 years old same price, and a waste of time if you ask me.. they dont sync at all well with Android, cant use Strava… dont bother..
